A shot streaked over her head as she dove to the mat, rolling to her back and preparing to aim. As soon as she had a clear view, she caught out the round target that was firing at her and let one loose. Bingo! It beeped and turned off before it went zooming off.

Rolling to her stomach, a black-clad Calloway surveyed the contained space of the virtual phaser range. Yes, they had an actual one they could use for training, but she was, well, being cheeky. She knew Shock had booked it for training for his people and since their departments would overlap and interact, well, she figured she needed to work things out with them. And letting off steam with target practice certainly didn’t hurt either.

Another target came zooming in and pushed herself up quickly to her feet, crouching, her stormy grey-green eyes hungrily tracking the target. Without even thinking she brought her tiny Intelligence issue phaser to bear and fired. Bam!

Shock had booked the holodeck from 1345 hours until 1600. His senior officers would be here at 1400 hours. That would give him some time to check the the range and try it out for a few minutes.

As he entered the holodeck, he noticed that his programme was running. He had not anticipated that. Looking in, he saw a recognizable figure – that of Calloway’s. In his gutt, he noticed a sense of violation, which he immediately purged.

“Computer, end programme”, he ordered. He needed to see if Calloway was real or a hologram.

Her target vanished and so did the mats. Faye let out a growl of irritation. “Dammit! I was on a roll too.”

He saw her though, in the emptiness of the non-projecting holodeck, wearing her black clothes.

“Commander,” he calmly said, “You’ve been running my programme on my time-slot. Please explain.”

Any time now, his colleagues would arrive. He did not want any troubles then.

Jordy entered the holodeck and saw Lieutenant Shock and Commander Calloway he said. ‘Commander are you joining our training today.’

Ensign Jordy Kleine Security

Calloway spun the tiny non-standard phaser in her hand. “That was the idea,” she said to the ensign before shifting her attention to Vock. “I thought we got off on the wrong foot and since I need to train regularly too, I decided to take a chance. But if I’m not welcome, by all means, I’ll leave you to it.”

‘Maybe it is a good thing we also need to work with people from different departments this way we train with different officers then just security and that is better for training.’ Jordy said

“I agree, Mr Kleine,” answered Shock, having been quiet trying to assess Calloway’s motives. Kleine’s invitation would help Calloway save face, which in many human cultures was an important aspect to consider, he had learnt. He turned to Calloway: “Commander, you are welcome to shoot with us.”

“Computer, restart programme, Shock Phaser Tag Gamma”

The holodeck immediately transformed to the phaser tag range.

“Computer, pause game.”

He then turned to Calloway and Kleine.

“We’ll just be waiting for Mr Ducante too. I am sure he’ll be here any minute now. I suggest Mr Kleine and Mr Ducante team up, and Ms Calloway and I on the other team. How does that sound, colleagues?”
