Daggum smiled and said “Someday they’re going to realize their dad is a total dork and there will go any kind of sway I ever had over them. And when they do that moment will be the end of life as we know it.” and he laughed. “But I think we will always have the edge in subterfuge. At least until we retire and they are the galaxy’s problem.” and he smiled and pulled her in close.

Faye snorted, trying to imagine this future with their children causing havoc across the galaxy. It made her grin rather than inspire fear. “When we retire and I become Alex’s landscaper, right?” she said, tipping her head up to gaze at him.

“You know, I hear us talk like this and sometimes it surprises me how much I like it. I mean, it wasn’t all that long ago that talking about a possible future would cause a panic attack.” Her stormy eyes were alight. “I think of how much has changed and it’s rather remarkable. I like that we can inspire each other. Just so you know, while I’m feeling in a slightly cheesy mood.”

Daggum snorted softly and said “You are always cheesy, doll. You just hide it well.” and he chuckled a low rumbling chuckle. “But I know what you mean. And I wouldn’t change the route that got either of us here for anything. Because here is absolutely the best part of the journey.”

Daggum

“Well, I certainly wouldn’t be on this ship if it weren’t for you and I and our journey,” Faye said with a throaty chuckle. “After all, Alex only let me go grudgingly, and I have to admit I was a tiny bit tempted to tell our friends at the super secret experimental tech lab that I would stay longer and play with all the toys. It was nice to let them bring my homework with me though.” Even though some parts of her adjustment were going to be tricky on this ship, Faye had ways to keep her mind busy with things she could do. And that felt like a good reprieve when everything else felt hard.

Daggum smiled. “Wasn’t it nice, though
And here we didn’t get them.anyrhing.” he said with a chuckle. “Speaking of Alex, though… you should call him. Let him know you are here and settling in. I’m sure he’d appreciate the communication.”

Daggum

She offered a lopsided grin. “You know, I was tempted to call him that first day, but I had you here and I know he’d have just told me to hang up, get a hug from you and give it time.” Faye shook her head. “Sometimes it surprises me how much I’ve grown. I’ve got two little voices in my head: Alex and the future Captain Calloway. They’re kind of annoying come to think of it.”

~Faye

“Captains usually are.” Daggum said with a laugh. “I think it’s in the job description.” He looked at her and smiled and said “Go. Call him. I’ll figure out what we’re doing for something to eat.” and he stood up and lifted her at the same setting her on her feet. He then playfully swatted her butt and walked towards the kitchenette.

“Would you put some clothes on then? I am going to change too,” she said, gesturing to her robe. “I’m not sure Alex really needs to see you in your underwear.”

“I save that view only for you, my love. Besides, I’d hate to make the guy feel inadequate!” came her husband’s voice from the other room.

A couple minutes later, Faye returned from the bedroom in her favourite galaxy yoga leggings and an oversized sweater and popped into the fresher to brush the tangles out of her hair. Moving back out, she settled herself in at the desk and set up the call that would take time to percolate all the way in the Delta Quadrant. She certainly hoped her relay system was behaving itself today. Tess sauntered over and wound herself around Faye’s ankles making the woman smile. “We’re going to call one of our favourite people, aren’t we?”
