What science detected could best be described as a ripple. There were more residual chronitons and space itself… just didn’t look right.

-GM

“Maintaining distance from vessel, Commander. We’re not running directly at her, but if we have interference with Chronitons out there, maybe we ought to come to a complete stop?” stated Meadows. While he figured maintaining distance was good enough, a complete stop wouldn’t be out of the norm for safety concerns.

-Lt. Matthias Meadows, Helm

“Let’s hold this position,” she said, not liking the shape of things just yet. “Let’s get a better picture of the area around that ship first. Full spectrum scanning. Last thing we need is to get sucked into a temporal anomaly or chronometric distortion that sends us back to the dinosaurs or into the thirty second century because we hit a tripwire or stepped in a hole.”

“Let’s queue up a probe too, in case we want to get a look at it from another angle,” she added.

Lt Cmdr Stone, XO

“Understood, Commander. Prepping probe now.” the big Orion said.

Liam had just arrived with a soft hiss of the doors. Silently, he walked over to his his nephew’s position. Joseph was already moving to a new seat and letting him settle in. The mention of chronitons had stirred a fire beneath his heels and hasten his pace. Numerous theories already rushed through his head. From time loop to a rip of time, his experience had caused him to believe it was all possible. One just needed to the right conditions to spark it.

Pushing aside the distractions, the CSO started the scan as the XO requested.

-CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci.

A more detailed scan showed that this “ripple effect” previously noted was actually an echo. It was the same place, just ever so slightly different. The ship had travelled out of this phenomenon, mostly drifting as no engine trails were present.

-GM

“According to the scans, this ‘ripple effect’ is an echo of the same place, but slightly different. The ship has traveled out of the phenomenon and there’s no engine trails so it might’ve drifted out.” Liam relayed the information as soon as he got it, adding in his own thoughts on the matter.

Meanwhile, in the Security department, not too far away from Bridge, Shock had received a missive from the captain, requesting a tactical posting to the Bridge. He decided to send Lt Ducante, as the most experienced junior officer in Security to Bridge. He was sure Mr Ducante was up to it.

A few moments later, Hammor said “Probe ready launch and standing by.”

Hammor, Ops

“Outstanding,” she said as she rose to her feet. “Mister Madison, can you get us a representation of the event horizon of this thing so we can see it. And how close that vessel is to it. And maybe a read on when this thing is from?”

Madison would detect that the phenomenon was somewhat small, only a 100 meters or so wider or taller than the long, cigar shaped craft that had emerged from it. Based on star patterns from the other side, it could be estimated that the ship came from one of several time periods, the mid 19th century, the latter 22nd century, or the 26th century. This exact Star pattern appeared approximately every 400 years.

Turning back to Commander Hammor, she gave him a nod. “Orbital scan, keep it on standby. Depending on what Commander Madison can advise us about it, we may still send it inside.”

Hearing more orders, Liam scanned the incoming data.

“According to readings, it’s only a 100 meters or so wider or taller than the craft that came out. Based on star patterns from the other side, there’s several time periods that fit. Mid 19th century, latter 22nd century, or the 26th century.”

Liam frowned as the numbers formed a pattern, “It seems that it appears every 400 years, if I’ve done my math right.”

Serena’s frown matched Liam’s. So far as she knew, there were no such shipbuilding capabilities that matched Federation design during Earth’s 19th Century. The Federatino didn’t exist then. 22nd Century was possible, but unlikely. That left the future.

The phenomenon was no longer emitting chronitons, but it wasn’t exactly stable. It had the impression of a tear made accidentally rather than a purposeful maneuver.

And then there was the matter of the ship and it’s condition. Where was it from? What was it doing here? Was it brought here, or did it venture here? For what purpose? Where were the crew, if any? Many questions floated through her mind.

Hammor launched the probe and set its course for an orbit of the ‘tear’ and it’s accompanying vessel.

Serena watched the readouts and studied the ship as the crew worked quickly. “Mister Madison, do you think we can poke a tractor beam in there and haul that thing out without making it worse,” she asked. The last thing they needed to do was make the rift worse, or create some sort of temporal issue that … well had it’s own sort of problems.

Serena reached up to tap her combadge. =^=Bridge to Legen=^=

Meanwhile, Faye watched the data coming in and ran the ship design through the Starfleet database using her Intelligence clearance. This opened up levels of database access that wouldn’t normally pop up from a general scan of the library.

The probe sent feedback from closer scans of the ship, that determined three things about it.

  1. Unoccupied
  2. The registration, too faint to be detected on the Athena due to a minor electrical fault, was USS Shai NCC-992144
  3. It was drifting far enough out from the phenomenon that acting upon one would not necessarily affect the other

-GM

Faye ran the registry through the database to see if they would get a hit and more information. She doubted it, but she was going through a process of elimination.
