(snip)

Tess was in action as her person went through a drastic flux of emotions. Faye just patted Tess’s head and took a steadying breath as she shot Daggum a disgruntled look. “Being an Admiral is your thing and you’re more than welcome to it.”

Leaving their quarters, Faye felt so weirded out by what amounted to a funny moment where Alex couldn’t technically use his rank against her. It was meant as a joke, not something to seriously consider. Can’t I just focus on one bloody milestone at a time? She needed to complete her command training and eventually be put into a position to make use of it. Ideally as XO at some point in the future. Captain Calloway was a person she had gotten comfy with. Right now there was no room in her head for anything past that.

Or so she told herself.

Checking the holographic facility schedule, she saw that Holosuite 4 was free and booked herself in to see whatever it was the Alex was so keen on her seeing after she had expressed how much she missed the Manhattan. It was a strange point of loneliness for her, not because Dag wasn’t enough (he was such an important part of her life), but she felt that somehow admitting to the people here that while she was excited for this new phase of her life a part of her wished she could go back to the Delta Quadrant would be seen as somehow disloyal. And given the distrust she had already been subjected to, Faye was loathe to give them further fodder.

Stepping into Holosuite 4, she had the computer activate whatever program it was that Alex had in place for her. More training simulations no doubt.

Nothing happened for a moment and then Alex’s voice said “I had the thought you might be able to use this from time to time.”…

And suddenly she was standing in the garden of the Manhattan.

Alex Cochrane

As the scene shimmered around her and solidified into one of her favourite places in the entire galaxy, Faye went still. She had the miniature version in her quarters (one of her wedding gifts), but to stand within the space was different. Her stormy grey-green eyes blinked before she processed that she was standing near the entrance, with the orchard to her right and the experimental beds to her left. Before her was the central garden area complete with trees, a pond and a rose garden.

A smile slipped on her face as she closed her eyes and imagined the last time she was in the garden: her and Dag’s wedding. They got married in the grassy area between the pond and the rose garden loop. Opening her eyes and crossing the wide main path, Faye moved down that path where she had walked down the aisle, heading to the far side where she’d cross the main path and go up The Hill to the her favourite spot in the entire place bedsides the mushroom house that Daggum designed for her: the bench at the top of the hill under the dew drop tree, with it’s fanned branches of water-drop shaped leaves and made you feel if you were ensconced in a private nook all the while giving you a view over the whole garden. Faye knew she wouldn’t be able to use the program to garden (that was a disastrous path of make-believe her already tricksy brain did not need, but to come and have respite? Yeah, she could do that.

OOC: For those not on the Manhattan, Faye designed and helped build this garden space which is now a permanent feature on the ship: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf1/manhattan/posts/116416/

“Man… did Cochrane program this himself? This is so freaking detailed. I didn’t think he was capable.” a familiar voice said. Daggum was walking up the path, smiling at her. “I’m guessing you got lost in here and didn’t look at the time. Two hours and you hadn’t come back yet, I thought I’d come check on ya.” and he took a seat on the bench next to her. “Just… wow. It’s exactly like the Manhattan. Even smells like it.”
