It was time for the regular check-ups on Shock’s staff. He would speak to each of them on a one-to-one basis to discuss how they’re getting on with their work, what issues they might face, and how he can be supportive in their security-skills development. He also had a surprise in store.

His first meeting was the 14:00 one with Ensign Kleine. One minute to go…

Shock sat in his office and waited.

– Lt Shock (COS)

Jordy approaches the door of Shock his office he started to think everything will be alright but he stayed scared that something goes wrong. Jordy gets ready and pressed on the bell.

Ensign Jordy Kleine Security

As the door opened, Shock stood up from his office chair. He noticed some – what Shock interpreted as anxiety – in Kleine’s demeanour.

“Please come in, Mr Kleine. Thank you for coming. Have a seat.”

“How are you feeling?” Shock asked, concerned that he had inadvertently scared his co-worker.

– Lt Shock (COS)

‘Im feeling fine just hoping i won’t mess something up.’ Jordy said as he taked a seat.

Ensign Jordy Kleine Security

“Very good,” replied Shock, unsure about what Kleine might mess up and why.

Shock sat down too.

“I have called you here today for a one-to-one session, where we can discuss your experiences on board this ship as a security officers, how you have been getting on with your work, if there is anything you might need, and so on. We both arrived around the same time.”

“Mr Kleine, how has your experience as a security officer been so far?”

– Lt Shock (COS)

‘I had a good expierence. I did not do much yet since i graduated, but when i was an cadet i was aboard the U.S.S Challenger and i got some good experiences there.’ Jordy said.

Ensign Jordy Kleine Security

“Indeed, you were, and your first posting was on the Ark Angel I believe. You’ve been on the Athena for about six months now. You’ve had a good experience so far. The Athena is a big ship. I understand you have familiarized yourself with the ship, its crew, and its layout by now. How correct is my assessment?”

– Lt Shock (COS)

‘Your assessment is correct. Six months already i had enough experience with normal duties aboard the ship but not much like away missions and other things that don’t happen everyday.’ Jordy said.

OOC: With things that don’t happen everyday i mean main sims.

Ensign Jordy Kleine Security

Shock nodded.

“How would you like going on away missions, if the opportunity arose?”

Shock wanted to make sure that he would place the right officer in the right position. If Kleine was interested in pursuing away missions, then Kleine needed training, which Shock might be able to provide. If Kleine, however, was more interested in upholding internal security on board the ship, then he could specialize more in that. The choice was Kleine’s.

A friendly bump for the boards :) – Ric

‘I would like to go on away misions sir.’ Jordy said.

Ensign Jordy Kleine Security

“Very good,” said Shock as flatly as he would usual. He was Vulcan after all.

“You are one of the most senior junior officers here under my command, Mr Kleine. I should like to entrust you supervision over five crewmen, a team of which you would lead. If you consent to my proposal, bear in mind that this is a trial to see how well you do. You and your team would, in the holodecks, under my mentorship, undergo mock landings on other crafts, planets, moons and so on. It will be rigorous training. Are you up to this task, Mr Kleine? And do you consent?”

Shock wanted to push Kleine a bit, but he knew Kleine was young and needed more training. Perhaps this might be the optimal balance between it. Kleine had every potential to step up and move forward, but everyone is new in their career at one stage. Kleine needed a mentor. Shock was willing to be that one.

– Lt Shock (COS)

‘I would want to do that i consent sir.’ Jordy said exicited to lead a team for the first time.

Ensign Jordy Kleine Security

Shock was satisfied.

“Very well, Mr Kleine. I will review the shifts of you and the five crewmen to find a suitable time in the near future where we can all begin training. I will send you orders of when to report to the holodeck. I believe the experience of training together will be sufficient to establish rapport and trust among each other.”

Shock looked at the time.

“We have some more time left. Are there any matters you would like to bring up? Things you believe I should know, be aware of, things you would like to discuss? How is your health, for example?”

– Lt Shock (COS)

‘I feel fine,i don’t really have something i wanted to discuss do you sir?’ Jordy said.

Ensign Jordy Kleine Security

Shock noted the rising inflection in Kleine’s voice, as if it was a question. Had he made Kleine feel uneasy? Humans were notoriously difficult to assess. Yet, all of Star Fleet was human-centric to max. Most crew members were humans. Most ships names had references to human cultures and mythologies. The system of rank and uniform was based on human sea-faring navies.

“Please, if there is, at any time, know that you can find me. I should like you take some familiarity with tactical duties on Bridge too.”

All having been said, Shock rose from his seat, gave Mr Kleine a small nod, and said, “That would be all, Mr Kleine. Thank you for coming. You may now resume your duties. Dismissed.”

– Lt Shock (COS)

‘Have a nice day sir.’ Jordy said as he moved to the door and he left the room.

Ensign Jordy Kleine Security

“Thank you, Mr Kleine, the same I wish to you.”

After Mr Kleine had left, Shock wrote down his notes , and added the meeting to Mr Kleine’s file, including what the two had agreed. Soon Mr Kleine would begin his away team training. He was confident Mr Kleine would be able to lead his team well, given enough training and mentorship from Shock. All would be well.
