Uggh. The waterworks after how she treated Faye just spoke to pure manipulation. She moved over, not even caring if the woman caught sight of her. She wasn’t hiding from her. “Never mind that the Admiral bypassed confidentiality of your records to help her, which makes me suspicious enough, but how did she even track you to Starfleet?” Faye bent and peered at the sample record carefully, her science background in exobiology rather helpful just now. “The markers do appear to match, Gem,” she said, standing back up and gazing at him. “Whether you want to trust results gathered under possibly sketchy circumstances, and that the match does in fact belong to that woman on the screen and not someone else, or you choose to verify the results another way, I do think you have to consider the possibility that she is your biological mother.” She reached out and rested a hand on her arm. “Whatever you decide, I’m with you in this, but do be cautious how you proceed and extend any trust. She called you on a Starfleet vessel and naturally assumed I was there being paid by the hour,” she said, raising her brows. They were both used to Orion women who flipped their emotions at the snap of a finger to get what they want. It would not work here, but there were bound to be a lot of emotions that came up for him and they couldn’t predict what that would look like.

Daggum looked at her for a long time and simply nodded once and turned back to the screen, united the mic and said flatly =/\= Whaddya want? =/\=

There was a pause and a look of shock from the woman. =/\= Wha..? I… =/\= and she took a breath and said =/\= Of course. You are angry… as you have every right to be. But Mar-, er, Daggum… I don’t know what you have been told or what you believe about what happened all those years ago, but you hav- =/\= and Daggum cut her of with a sharp whistle.

=/\= Stop. I just want to know what you want. I don’t need a grand story or a heartfelt… whatever. What do you want or need that would make you search for me over thirty years later. =/\=

Faye moved over to her workstation and did her thing, her fingers flying with incredible precision. She ran a search for Mallaua Ch’frej in the Federation database, but also the Intelligence one, using her clearance to dig every bit of dirt she could on the woman. If she was flagged anywhere, Faye would find it. And at least it gave her something to do that might help Dag make a decision either way about this woman.

~Faye

It was not long before a record turned up… a criminal record, of course.

The picture attached was of a younger version of rhe woman on the screen.

While Faye worked, the woman looked at Daggum. =/\= So untrusting… butvI suppose I am to blame. =/\= and a tear fell. Daggum arched an eyebrow, but said nothing. =/\= My son… I am contacting you not to ask for anything… but instead to give you something. You had… grandparents, of a sort. They left their wealth to you. I have been trying to find you so you can have it. =/\=

Daggum

Faye arched her brows. It was possible that that was true, but gazing at the woman’s rap sheet was not making Faye feel very confident in the trustworthiness of those words. She looked over at him and tapped her screen twice and pointed. He needed to see this. The crimes she had been involved in could definitely create wealth and Dag didn’t want to touch dirty money.

Daggum read the file quickly and then looked back at the woman. =/\= OK. Send me the information. If it checks out, I’ll contact you. If it doesn’t, consider this the only time we will speak. =/\= and he closed the comms. He turned and looked at Faye. ” I believe that woman is my mother about as much as I believe you are a Crystalline Entity in in disguise.”

Daggum

Faye snorted. “I’m inclined to agree with you. But in the very tiny possibility that she is, we need to continue to be very cautious. Just because she want convicted of anything doesn’t mean she’s innocent. And of course her acquaintanceship with the Admiral is making my spider-sense tingling.”

She stood and gazed at him, resting a hand on his arm. “How do you want to proceed? We can have-” She as going to say they could have Micah look into it. But no, not they couldn’t. Not for now. It bothered her. A lot. “I can dig further, if you like. But I won’t do anything unless you want me to.”

~Faye

“Dig away.” he said with a smile. “Seriously, I’m okay. First of all, I don’t believe a word of it. Second, even if it is the truth and she is my biological mother… she sold me. I don’t owe her a damn thing.”
