Daggum smiled and said “Oh, I’ve already decided that. If the will is real, I’m gonna claim it. If she challenges, I’m gonna demand that a Federation court determine relationship. I am, after all, a citizen of the Federation and technically a refugee… so the Orion court system will have to agree to a mediator since they are considered hostile to refugees. Then… we sit back and let the mediator hash it out. And since the mediator will be someone we choose, we’ll know they are legit. The other thought is that of she tries to stay in the fight through all that… she probably is one of my parents.”

Daggum

Faye snorted. “Process of elimination, makes sense.” She gazed at her husband and reached out her hand, brushing the back of her fingertips along his cheek. “So, tell me honestly, how are you feeling about all this?”

He looked at her and took a deep breath. “Honestly I’m trying not to feel anything at all. And until it gets settled, I think that is the best way to handle it. Its a thing. Its happening. We can’t really change it. So… we compartmentalize it, deal with it without emotion… and when its done I can freak out.”

Daggum

She gave him a lopsided smirk. “If that’s what will work best for you. Though as your wife I reserve the right to intervene if I feel necessary, just as you would do for me.” They had both been through so much, and though Dag had found his way through it all a lot earlier than Faye had, she knew all too well that these things could dig up stuff you didn’t expect at the most inconvenient of times.

“Deal.” he said with a grin. “And I guess I should call Paul and let him know what is happening. The question is… do we get him involved.”

Daggum

Faye remained nestled on his body and felt her ribcage expand before she blew out a breath. “He is there, and might be able to help us navigate a few things. But I don’t know if you want him having to deal with whatever BS she might toss at him. I agree we need to let him know though, just so he’s prepared.” Again her mind slipped to the perfect person to deal with a potentially difficult Orion and Faye had to shove that thought far deep into a bottom pit in her mind. Nope. Bad idea.

“No no… not ‘him’ Paul. *Him…” Daggum said, and then it was clear who he meant.

Kodell was a know entity to both of them, but for WHOLLY different reasons.

“I mean… there are advantages to having him on our side. And he could deal with anything she may try to pull on the Center’s doings. The question is… is it a good idea. Logistically and legally sound, yes… but is it too personal. I don’t want him in our business.”

Daggum

It was for a strictly practical reason but Faye slipped out of her husband’s arms and held up one finger to him before she slipped into their bedroom.

She returned a moment later with her plain black satin robe covering her body and forced herself to take long and deep breaths. She could not in any way, shape, or form, discuss Kodell while naked. It just… hells no.

Tess, who had long learned which of her person’s emotions to ignore and pay attention to (otherwise, can we say awkward?), trotted over with a chirp and wove around her legs. “I hate that we’re both thinking the same thing when it comes to him. If we’re talking on a purely practical basis, sure, he’s our man. But if I detach myself from my emotions, I can go with that.” Tess meowed and Faye looked down. “But I think we both know it’s not that simple for me, or you.”

She stooped to pick up the cat before Tess really freaked out. Faye gazed at Daggum while she scratched Tess’s jaw. “Look, go for it. It makes sense. I’m never going to like it, and I might need to take some extra self care steps to make sure I’m okay as we proceed, but we both know we need every advantage with this. She has some Admiral on her side Dag. I’m definitely going to do some looking into whomever this friend of hers is, but at the moment we’re playing catch up. It’s a terrible place to be in and will not get us an outcome we can be okay with.”
