George stepped out of the turbolift, and with a sigh entered the sickbay. He adjusted his uniform, and searched for a doctor.

This was his first real assignment after the Academy, so he was nervous. He had been possibly worse when he was assigned to he Challenger, but he was always nervous when going somewhere new.

Ensign George Haroon (Science)

George was approached by a tall officer in a white lab coat, Lieutenant pips on his collar. Dark of hair with bright green eyes that examined the young officer carefully “Can I help you Ensign?” He spoke in a slightly accented Standard, a soft Scottish brogue.

Dr. Grey - CMO

The Ensign looked him up and down for a second before speaking. “Yes. Ensign George Haroon reporting for boarding physical, sir.” He said in an accent that you would normally hear in and around Texas.

He was average height, average weight. Blue eyes, black hair. He had a buzzcut and a goatee. And he seemed obviously nervous.

Ensign George Haroon (Science)

The doctor inclined his head “Welcome aboard Ensign, I’m Doctor Grey, Chief Medical Officer” He smiled politely and raised his hand, indicating one of the empty biobeds “Please have a seat. You recently finished your Academy assignment on the Challenger?”

Dr. Grey - CMO

The ensign reluctantly returned the smile. Then he took a seat. “I did.” This brought some memories flooding back. Hopefully this was a chance to make new, similar ones.

Ensign George Haroon (Science)

Benjamin opened a medical tricorder and removed the scanner wand, starting the standard slow hand wave scanning proccess “Did you enjoy your final Cadet assignment?” he asked.

Dr Grey - CMO

He tried to stay still while being scanned, he heard it worked better if you did. “I did.” He said, still reminiscing about it. “What was your last cadet assignment?”

Ensign George Haroon (Science)

Benjamin looked up from his scanner with his eyes, raising an eyebrow in mild surprise at the question. He hadn’t thought about the Academy for a good long while, it’d been just over ten years since he first Graduated “I graduated from the Academy in three years, technically speaking I did my Academy Assignment as an Ensign on the USS Polaris” He did not grimace thinking about the ship where he was first assigned or his former Department Head Grimp Omag. He looked back to his scanner “Any medical issues you think I should be made aware of?” He asked, changing the subject. He always asked the question despite having already memorized each crew member’s medical records before hand.

Dr. Grey - CMO

“I have asthma and a scar on my left hand, but other than that nothing major.” He said, remembering a very similar question asked to him on the Challenger. He had forgotten his doctor then had recommended he get an inhaler for the asthma until now. He figured he might try to get one before he left.

Ensign George Haroon (Science)

Benjamin nodded “Nothing of note has happened since your last medical examination?” He asked.

Dr. Grey - CMO

He thought for a moment, clearly going through the last 6 months or so of memories. “None that I can think of.” He said, although he wasn’t entirely certain. Oh well.

Ensign George Haroon (Science)

Benjamin raised an eyebrow at the uncertainty in the Cadets answer but didn’t comment on it:

DR: Grey - CMO

It almost checked out. But in the pathogen section, instead of saying “none” or the name of a disease, it said “N/A” Could be a malfunction, could be George has something new.

He noticed the eyebrow but didn’t say anything. “How’d the scan return, doc?”

Ensign George Haroon (Science)

Benjamin expertly suppressed the frown he felt coming on “Please lie down Ensign” He said in the same calm tone of voice as he pocketed the scanner and engaged the more powerful scanners in the bed “What made you join Starfleet?” He asked purposefully avoiding the question.

Dr. Grey - CMO

He lied down, now silently raising his own eyebrow. Avoiding the question usually meant something was wrong. “A fascination for space and the science related to it.” He said. “And starships. I built a lot of model Starfleet ships when I was younger.” He said, although now the conversation was more on the back of his mind. Right now his overthinking mind was imagining why his earlier question was avoided.

Ensign George Haroon (Science)

Ben raised an eyebrow at the answer, he wondered if that’s how his old DH had seen that sort of youthful interest and excitement when he was the newly graduated Ensign not so many years ago. “I joined on a dare, my family’s been supplying Starfleet with doctors and Scientists since pre-Federation days but I was never interested. My cousin said the entrance exam was difficult, implying that I wouldn’t make it” He said with an amused smile as he read through the more detailed scan info “It was not as difficult as advertised, although the Academy was an enjoyable challenge.”

Dr. Grey - cMO

“What would you do if you weren’t in Starfleet?” George asked, barely paying attention. He was still pouring his brain into the reasons his question about the scan was avoided.

Ensign George Haroon (Science)

The scans returned some more in other areas, but there was still n/a as opposed to none or the name of a known disease.

OOC: Do you want to do a full thread investigating the disease or is this something ongoing with your character? Hjortur

OOC: I think it would be fun to investigate it.

Benjamin nodded slowly not really listening and missed the question “Tell me ensign, have you been of ship recently, been in contact with any foreign/alien material or biomatter?” He asked as he started another more intensive scan cycle.

Dr. Grey - CMO

He thought for a moment. “I believe I was on a newly discovered planet my brother was assigned to. I think I touched something they were studying without gloves or any other protection.” He said, assuming this was all part of the exam.

Ensign George Haroon (Science)

Benjamin sighed =^=Computer, initiate quarantine protocols, level two=^= he looked at the Ensign “You have an unidentifiable disease, You’ll need to remain in this bed while we trace your steps since you left the planet. Did they not do a post-mission examination?” He asked his voice as calm and professional as before. As they spoke a small circular forcefield surrounded the bed. Ben got to work, putting on gloves and a mask as he spoke. When he was finally finished prepping himself he grabbed a hypospray and used it on the ensigns neck, taking a blood sample.

Dr. Grey - CMO

He startled. This was definitely unexpected. “No they did not do a post-mission exam.” He said, watching the doctor. He winced a little when his blood sample was taken. “Is it dangerous?”

Ensign George Haroon (Science)

Benjamin put the sample down, pressed a few buttons on a PaDD and it was transported away “I do not know, I’ll have to do a full work up but an unknown alien infection is no simple matter How long ago was this?”

Dr. Grey - CMO

“It was two weeks ago. I haven’t noticed any symptoms beyond having no good night’s sleep. I couldn’t place my finger on why, until now that is.”
