“One would assume,” Faye said as she gazed back at the ship, her brain once again doing it’s complicated treeing of possibilities. It was like if she stared hard enough, she would see something that she hadn’t before.

After a moment, Calloway sat back down and accessed the sensors from the armchair console. She was, at her core, a scientist, and right now she needed more information while they kept an eye on the ship they were towing. Strangely (or perhaps not), Faye had managed to disentangle the fact that it was her husband over there with the away team.

At this point, Shock entered the bridge. He wanted to check in on Jordy to see how he was doing on his first bridge shift. He signalled his arrival to Calloway, subtly nodding to her.

– Lt Shock (COS)

Calloway nodded back to the COS.

What Faye would observe is the position of the phenomenon had been altered. I had rotated a few degrees to completely face the Athena.

-GM

“The anomaly has shifted to face us through rotation. There doesn’t seem to anything obvious that would cause that, that we know of.” Faye leaned forward, studying the screen. “Computer, overlay a map of subspace on our current image on the viewscreen.”

~Faye Calloway, CIO

A map of subspace overlaid over real space showed the Shai and Athena in reversed positions.

-GM

“Let’s get more scans of the ship! I want status on their engines and weapons.” ordered Orvos before relaying a message to the away team.

=/\=Athena to Away Team, the ship has changed position to completely face us. Any info to help us figure out why?=/\=

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

Perhaps I should clarify. The subspace map shows the ships flipped so the Shai is where the Athena is in real space and the Athena is where the Shai is in real space. The anomaly is the only thing that has changed its direction without any apparent cause.

-GM

“What would cause us to transpose positions?” Faye said, musing aloud and frowning. She suspected that this was going to be a day for a lot of frowning.

~Faye Calloway, CIO

The comms activated and the voice of the Ops Chief came through. =/\= Ops to Athena. Sir, it appears the ship is in some kind of time-flux. We have established communications with what we believe is the crew, but in a different 0hase of time. We are modifying their ship logs and flagging them for review, and they respond by utilizing the vocabulary available within the logs. I mean, it could be an artificial intelligence of some kind, but we did see some kind of… apparition… for a moment. It all seems to track. As far as the ship changing position? We aren’t seeing that here. =/\=

Hammor, Ops

=/\=Kingston to Bridge. I’m apparently standing the counsellor’s office on the USS Shai having a very interesting covnersation with my counterpart. You should know that their current year is 2761.=/\=

~Janna Kingston, CNS

Orvos’s ears perked at the sound of the counselor chiming in. He wasn’t expecting it, but the information was helpful. The sound of her voice was also somewhat calming, despite her involvement in some sort of temporal event.

Calloway nodded with appreciation of the sheer outlandishness of the situation. “Computer, what is the location of Lieutenant Kingston?”

~Faye Calloway, CIO

=Lieutenant Kingston is in the counseling office.= the computer replied.

-GM

Shock observed the interaction with interest, ready to act if necessary.

“Curious,” he said. “Perhaps we should ensure she’s not alone now. She may need security.”

– Lt Shock (COS)

“That may be wise Mr. Shock. Let’s make sure she and the rest of counseling staff are safe.” replied Orvos.

“Yes, sir,” said Shock. “I will attend to it personally”. He knew Lt Ducante was otherwise engaged, and Mr Kleine was on the bridge on tactical duty. Several of his most trusted officers were on the away teams… He had to lead the crewmen.

He left the Bridge to go....

Chronitons and temporal issues weren’t necessarily Orvos’s forte, despite having been through the Nexus more than once. It was enough to make him feel sick to his stomach. Orvos sighed as focused on the issue at hand.

The ships appeared to be caught in some sort of temporal ripple. Ripple…Orvos had forgotten it was a ripple they had detected. “Computer, let’s bring up the movement of the chronitons in relation to sub-space. Compare the image to the effect of a ripple in water.”

Orvos looked briefly to Faye. “If I’m truly on to something, we may need to figure out why this anomaly is causing this ripple, and why it’s turned towards us now. Tractor beams create a sub-space or graviton interference pattern in order to move objects. I’m also curious if our use of the tractor beam effected the ripple or anomaly somehow.”

Lt. Meadows overheard what the captain was saying and decided to check what the anomaly was like both before and after they activated the tractor beam.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO
-Lt. Meadows, Helm

On the main viewscreen appeared an analysis of the flow of chronitons. There was a strong flow out and a weaker flow back. The second seemed to gain speed as it approached the anomaly itself.

-GM

– Lt Shock COS

Faye studied the readings, pairing it with her own knowledge and that which Kingston conveyed. She focused back on the Captain for a moment before responding to their CNS, whom they had left hanging. =/\=Doctor Kingston, it’s quite possible that our tracotr beam has created a connection between us and the Shai. See what else you can find out and keep the comm open. Let’s see how this goes.=/\=

~Faye Calloway, CIO

=/\=Understood, Bridge.=/\=

~Janna Kingston, CNS

Orvos accessed another com-link to the away team. =/\=Athena to away team, we are currently experiencing some strange phenomena. Counselor Kingston appears to be speaking with her counterpart aboard the Shai. We have been analyzing the flow of chronitons coming from the anomaly. There appears to be a strong steady flow of chronitons coming out from the anomaly itself, and a weaker flow going back. As it goes back it picks up speed. We’ve also discovered that the Athena and Shai are transposed in subspace. Shai is where we are in real space, and vice versa. I’d like to keep this comm open as we figure out what is going on and how we can restore things back to the way they should be. Any initial thoughts?=/\= Orvos withheld his own theories for the moment, curious if what the away team would share would change it.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

There was a slight delay. =^=Acknowledged, Athena.=^= The XO’s voice came through with no small measure of tension and perhaps a little bit of frustration, but not directed at either crew. It seemed more situationally directed. Or perhaps directed at herself. After another momentary pause, she came back through the audio pickup. “Okay, so is this just a matter of shoving the Shai back through the anomaly? Can we send a probe through for a peek?” It was hard to tell if it was directed at the Athena side of the conversation, or the Away team, or both, just by tone. Or maybe she was just thinking out loud.

Lt Cmdr Stone, XO

=^=Could, but I doubt we would get anything back… unless…=^= there was a pause. =^=What if both the Athena and the Shai did it at the same time? Two probes into the space at the same time, each with a distinct chroniton signature. Might give us an idea if the rift will allow movement both directions.=^=

Hammor, Ops

=^=Though I feel like Hammor might be right, I say we try both. It might reveal something we missed or come back empty.=^= Liam voice held doubt this event was as easy as reversing the two ships and letting the abnormally dissipate.

-CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci.

=^=A negative result or a result of nothing is still a result=^= Serena agreed. =^=I think it’s worth a shot. Do we launch from the Shai, or let them launch in their time?=^=

Stone, XO

((Don’t forget to cross-post your dialogue to the main sim away team thread since we are on open comms, which means they hear everything we say, and we hear everything they say.))

Faye was sitting there and taking everything in. For the moment she didn’t have anything to add and it seemed everyone was brainstorming together. Her brain wasn’t even doing it’s multi-branched thinking and she was simply focused on observing, learning and waiting for where she might need to add something or make a suggestion.

~Faye Calloway, CIO

“Let’s do it. Science let’s launch another probe into the rift.” stated the captain. “Away team if you can manage to send a message to the Shai bridge, that would be ever so helpful!”

Orvos then turned his attention to the open channel with Kingston. =/\=Janna, we’re hoping to relay a message to the Shai bridge to launch a probe. We’re hoping that we can get some better readings or understanding of our situation that way.=/\= He caught the slight slip up in name usage, but did not remark on it aloud. He simply let it slide as though nothing had happened as he waited for her reply.

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

=/\=Understood, Captain,=/\= Janna said, her expression even. If she was surprised at all, she didn’t show it on her face or in her tone. =/\=We have some sort of detectable time dilation down here. It seems to be why I appear to be in Counsellor Jannson’s office and yet we can all communicate. The… phenomenon is something I can feel.=/\= She left it at that, knowing it would tell him enough

~Janna Kingston, CNS

Faye looked at Orvos, her stormy grey-green eyes intense like she understood something suddenly. Or maybe lots of little things. “The obvious solution is to simply turn off the tractor beam, but we don’t know what will happen if we do so with the away team over there, and we might lose our ability to communicate with the Shai’s crew.” It was giving them important information so as long as there was no obvious threat to ship or crew, it seemed a viable risk to Faye that they keep the tractor beam going.

~Faye Calloway, CIO

A probe launched from each ship. As they collided, they froze in place and began to emanate a sickly green light. Reports came back to the Athena that the probe they had launched was moving forward in time at an alarming rate.

-GM

Immediately Liam’s voice came on over the open comms. =/\= Probes are moving forward in time at an alarming rate…=/\=

-CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci.

Orvos picked up Janna’s comment that she could feel it. He felt terrible knowing how she would be feeling very similar things to how he felt. He stood up slowly as the probes launched and the green hue manifested itself on the viewscreen. He watched intently as he allowed his senses to give him some sort of information. It was like keeping a vice on reality for him. When he let go, knowing that time was shifting all around, he was likely going to lose a bit himself to the surrounding effects.

Orvos sighed as stomach began to churn, almost like motion sickness while lost at sea. He stumbled back to his seat and sighed as he tried to keep the nausea from getting worse. He pushed past the feeling to speak out loud. “I’m getting a strange sense of things. Feels like…ugh…a tide. A tide that both us and the Shai are caught in. Looking at that probe and the results on our end, it would seem we are being pulled in by this ‘temporal tide’ while the Shai is…being pushed out.”

-Captain Orvos Legen, CO

Faye stayed calm so the rest of the bridge didn’t panic, but worry was etched all over her face as she gazed at Legen. A part of her wanted to go run simulations, but she was needed elsewhere at this moment. They needed to end this. Now. =/\=Away team, this is Calloway. What would happen if we cut the tractor beam? You’d still have the shuttle to get back and you should probably do so sooner rather than later.=/\= They had started the tractor beam to stabilize the Shai but they needed to get their people out of there.
