She was gathering all the tidbits and they were slowly forming a picture, though it wasn’t as complete as she needed just yet. “I see. What about here on the Athena? Do you think you’ll be able to make friends with your shipmates?”

“I do believe I will. I tend to make friends with most of the people I meet once they crack my shell.”

Ensign George Haroon (Science)

Janna smiled. “And how does one go about doing that?” She had a small hunch but was wasn’t sure yet if it was likely to be true or not. Then agian, she trusted her hunches a great deal and they generally serve her well.

He thought for a moment. “If they make me hang out with them enough that I start to feel comfortable around them, they’ve done it.” He said.

Ensign George Haroon (Science)

Her grass green eyes studied him for several moments. “So you have to be forced to socialize?” she asked lightly, her expression neutral. It wasn’t a bad thing or a good thing, at least by what her body language conveyed.

“Generally yes.” He said, leaning back in his chair. “Otherwise, I may just be a hermit!” He said with a chuckle.

“How have you coped so far then at the Academy and on your training cruise on the Challenger?” Janna asked. She was starting to get the thread of an idea and while it wasn’t an unusual way to handle a situation, she didn’t rely on it heavily.

“I didn’t have a whole lot of unrequired interaction. It happened here and there but not often. I don’t quite know how close they were to breaking me out of my shell.”

Janna studied for him a moment, her expression very neutral. “Tell me about the last interaction you had with someone outside of work that you found meaningful, and when that was.”
