Kin had finished her shift, filed her reports, and gone to her quarters. Unfortunately, her roommate was ‘indisposed’ and three is crowd in such circumstances, so Kin found herself with no place to go other than the Lounge. ‘At least I can eat dinner in peace, I suppose..‘ she thought to herself. Truthfully, Kin detested eating alone. But sometimes she had no other choice.

Walking into the Lounge, she ordered some food and took her tray to an empty table. Sitting down, she looked about and then began to sample her choice of meal for the evening: potato and leek soup, grilled shrimp skewer, Alsatin tomato salad, and Boilian tonic water.

A tall golden-haired Caitian walked in arm in arm with an obviously pregnant Vulcan woman. The place was pretty crowded so they found themselves next to Kin’s table with the obviously over attentive husband desperately looking for a seat for his wife. He looked down with golden eyes scrunched up with concern. “Mind if we sit here,” he said with a small half smile that hid his canine teeth.

S’Raal Cran Moonshadow

Kin nodded once and said “Please, by all means. I can move to the bar, if you would like the table to yourselves.” Kin was not averse to company, but the ingrained protocols of her species made such offers absolutely mandatory… no matter how much she fought to relax those practices.

S’Raal smiled and ushered T’Pon into a seat. “Please don’t leave, one of the reasons we come here is to get to know new people”.

Marishka had been behind the bar as the three conversed. She hadn’t officially met S’Raal and T’Pon yet but knew exactly who they were so she stepped out of her accustomed place and quickly made her way to them.

Bowing slightly she smiled but didn’t show her teeth.

T’Pon nodded in reply to the bow and S’Raal bowed slightly flipping his tail into his paw as he finished the ritual mark of respect.

“You must be S’Rall and T’Pon. Please accept my apologies for not making your acquaintance sooner. It’s something I’ve been meaning to do since I came aboard. May I offer you some more comfortable chairs?” she asked with concern.

  • Marishka

T’Pon smiled in gratitude but quickly acquiesced, “Thank you but that won’t be necessary, a nice straight-backed hard chair is just what the doctor ordered” she said nodding at her husband with a slight smirk.

S’Raal rolled his eyes slightly “Ok, I’m being a bit protective, I’m sorry”. He turned to Marishka, “No need to apologize Marishka, we came tonight planning to meet you as well. Stark mentioned that you had made your presence felt and seeing what you’ve done with the place I must say I like it”.

S’Raal and T’Pon

Marishka paused and pondered S’Raal’s exact words.

“Well I had a lot of help and I appreciate all of it. It was Stark that suggested I make a point of seeing the arboretum but, my goodness, this place just needed so much work. I am glad we’ve finally met though. Can I get you anything to drink or eat?” she asked catching a server coming towards her from the corner of her eye.

The young woman approached and spoke quietly.

“How do you make a Dark Water?” the woman asked.

Marishka frowned, a look of frustration in her silver eyes.

“I don’t care if it is Lieutenant Smith’s birthday, you don’t make a Dark Water without Kitarian gin and I don’t have any of the real stuff. It doesn’t replicate properly either. He already knows that I’ll make it next time I get some. Besides, he just wants to spend time with you.” She smiled and patted the server’s arm.

Blushing, the woman promptly turned and went back to the table.

Turning back towards her guests, Marishka flipped a long strand of dark hair out of her eyes.

“Now, about that food and drink?”

  • Marishka

Just then a young Vulcan with an engineer’s uniform and lieutenant jg pips glided to Marishka through the crowded lounge.

After clearing his throat, he spoke. “I am lieutenant junior grade Kurok. Chief Legen has tasked me with fixing any replicator issues you have tonight, along with fixing the sonic shower in your quarters. Are there any issues with the replicators currently ma’am?” He stated in typical logical Vulcan fashion.

-Kurok

Marishka looked down at the Vulcan and took a half step back.

“Well there is one in the kitchen. Every time I ask it for a Caesar salad it insists on giving me this putrid blue substance.” she paused and smiled, “And as for my shower, I’ll speak with the Chief aobut that personally if it should ever become an issue but I thank you for your attentiveness.” she said with a gentle dismissiveness.

Oh yes, Orvos will hear about this. she thought.

  • Marishka

Kurok raised an eyebrow and decided to bow his head once before moving off to the kitchen. Orvos was right. Replicators in the lounge were absolute crap. They all really needed to be replaced at this point. Why, however, the chief wanted him to fix the woman’s shower was beyond him. It seemed as though it were not an issue. Perhaps a mishap in communication? Whatever it was, he let it go as he went to work on the replicator in the kitchen.

-Kurok

Kin watched the various exchanges in silence, and then simply began picking at her food a bit. She ate a small bite, and then unconsciously moved the dreadlocks of hair off her shoulder, the small metal clasps wrapped around them jingling slightly as she did so.

Marishka returned back to the small group.

“And how are you doing this evening Kin? I’m so glad you made it for dinner. If you’re interested, I could recommend a dessert.” she said conversationally.

  • Marishka

Kin nodded in response and said “Oh. I am fine. Thank you. And how are you?” Her speech was friendly, but she seemed to be a bit… tense or uncomfortable in some manner.

Marishka realized she wasn’t going to put the newcomer at ease with a little friendly banter but it was better than making the woman feel lonely.

“I think it’s going to be a very enjoyable evening. So glad you’re here to enjoy it.” she said.

  • Marishka

“I appreciate that. I haven’t had much time off since arriving. I was hoping to have a nice meal whole my roommate… what is the right term? I believe the humans say ‘knocks boots’ or something like that.” Kin said, completely unaware of the connotations, but completely at ease with the meaning, of what she just said.

Marishka smiled brightly and gave a small laugh.

“It would help if the two of you set up a warning system for such events. It’s been my experience that not a lot of species like audiences.” she said with a slightly confused look.

  • Marishka

“Oh we did. Her signal is she locks me out. Mine is I tell her to go away.” Kin responded with a small laugh of her own.
