Julien saw Stark’s move and his heart sunk heavily, while he schooled his features to not betray his dismay. Stark had fallen for the face of his wife! Was he really going to protect that monster?

“Because it means there can be a future for you… peace… this…” Konral said as he looked around. “This isn’t the way to live for anyone. This place is twisted and torn, but you don’t have to be.”
Vander, COS

Kaylee stood by, watching and waiting for what the next move would be. Things had taken an interesting turn.

Before Laraan could reply to Vander’s comment, three Breen and two Gorn rushed her position, simultaneously everyone else got well back out of the way.

Stark launched himself to the top of one of the podium’s sailing through the air past Laraan and straight at the Gorn coming from her rear. His scream could have cut through neutronium.

Janna moved swiftly closer to Vander and hurriedly said, “Quick, fire your weapon carefully towards the ceiling or a wall. Away from people,” she said simply. She wasn’t asking.

She didn’t even wait, just hoped that that she could interrupt the insanity before any blood was shed. “Everyone, STOP!” she commanded, with all the air of authority she could muster, despite her petite size and generally quiet demeanour.

It dawned on Julien then that Stark’s tactic to seemingly protect the monster in their midst, could be simply the best plot to save their crew in the room. It made sense, side with the worst evil in the room. Risky - but what else could you do if you were facing such a powerful being. Grudgingly, Julien decided to follow the tactic.

OOC Just going to sit on this a while longer to let that shot get fired :-) Ian

The distraction proved advantageous for Stark who succeeded in deflecting the Gorn bent on Laraan’s death. The tiny woman saw the others coming and simply disappeared, appearing four steps away as the combatants collapsed in a heap where she had been a second before. She was safe but she looked ashen grey and breathless.

“Proof of their treachery!”, Thot Gor screamed and pointed to where Janna was standing with the others. Suddenly Tholian’s, Gorn and Breen rushed their position. The Romulans moved to hold the flank as did the earth Alliance on the opposite side. Orvos appeared descending from a compartment in the ceiling on the back of a modified floating antigrav platform.

Stark had not yet given him a sign, so Julien would still hold back, but that didn’t mean he would stay impassive. As the group rushed towards them, he came forward to meet them in front of Jenna, his right body half posed forward, whoever would come into the reach of his right arm first had lost. In his periphal vision he saw Vander, but knew the COS was well able to take care of business himself.

Janna was quietly glad for the man’s presence. At the moment, while fully trained and capable, it was entirely likely that in the chaos she would sustain injuries and given that the Athena was who the hell knew where, medical attention was rather far away. She ducked closer to her pillar, hoping to shield herself from whatever happened next. Being unarmed had its disadvantages and she searched the room with her eyes for anything she might be able to swing and use as a weapon.

Stark hissed a whisper at the petite power pack three feet from his left. “I know you, the other you, I know your abilities and limits and I know you’re there now. My Laraan would want me to bring you to her, take my energy to protect yourself and us but NO killing”.

Stark Nightstalker CIO
OOC Just so you know, I’m playing Stark as I see him responding but the responses from mirror Laraan are being dictated by the random roll of a dice… could be his end right here :-)
OOC: Oh my! You simply can’t let him die, it would be too big a loss for the ship.

Julien’s right ear had picked that up through all the commotion and his eyes widened. He couldn’t afford to take his eyes of the ones rushing to him to attack, but in his mind two thoughts were raging against each other - Stark was either plain out crazy or the most courageous person he’d ever met.

There was the crackle of fire from above as Orvos started to swoop over the onrushing crowd firing some sort of stun pellets from his floating antigrav platform.

Eddington arrived at their position along with Keiko Ishikawa, ready to defend.

As the fighting erupted, Kaylee silently and slowly crept her way so that she was now standing just behind Eddington. She was crouched low in a defensive stance, but ready to pounce if anyone came her way.

The first wave reached the dark Caitian and the pale Heleen. She grabbed his arm and threw six of the onrushing mob into the rest and then promptly disappeared completely from the building. Stark dropped to the floor deathly still…

“Where did she go?!” Janna exclaimed.

Julien shot Janna a look “Stay close to me, I need to get to him.” he said, grabbed her hand with his human left hand, so as to not to accidentially crush it and pulled her into quick motion on his way to Stark, while dodging the firing and fighting going on as best as he could and always positioning his right android body half in front of them as a shield.

OOC: Assuming he gets to Stark
IC: Dropping to his knees after making sure Janna was save behind him, he released the same-eye-movement lock in his right eye so he was able to track what was going on around them with his right eye, while his left eye was locked on Stark. Something he did very rarely as it usually freaked people out and resulted in a painful headache for him, but he didn’t care right now.
He whipped out his med tricorder and scanned Stark.
- Julien

Janna kept close, knowing that there was little time for discussion. But she also knew that she might be able to help. Maybe.

Stark was breathing… barely.

Kaylee wished she had a phaser or a disruptor any kind of weapon right now. She saw Stark fall, and for the moment, the wave on oncoming attackers appeared to have been slowed down by the actions of the Heleen. She spun slowly on her heels, ready for an attack.

-Kaylee Baxter

Everything went into slow motion as all sides realised that the Heleen was gone. Everyone started to dispatch aides to search outside.

Zogozin pointed a scaly claw at Stark’s supine form. “He helped herrrr, you are alliessss!”.

All eyes turned towards Kaylee and Athena’s crew to see what would happen next.

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist
OOC Option 4, not the best, but at least Stark’s still breathing :-)

In a breathy whisper, Stark said, ‘Anyone get the number of that truck…”

Julien lowered his lips to Stark’s ears and spoke in a low voice: “Lie still my man, no worries, I got you. Looks like mirror Laraan, as in, not your wife, drained you clean. You gotta trust me now.”

“We need to get him to the Athena,” Janna said. “Or… find Mirror Laraan? Maybe we can convince her to help him?” Janna was at a loss but looked at the angry contingent giving them death glares.

Julien gave her a quick knowing look, his android eye never straying from the Gorn/Breen/Tholian party though, while his left human eye looked at Janna.
“First things first.” he said and now his left eye also quickly went to the antagonistic party and back to hers, indicating they were the bigger problem right now, they were hostile and armed.

Still keeping close to Julien, Janna rose to feet, now simply pissed off. Clear-headed, but pissed off. “It’s not what you think! You see only what you want to see. He is bonded to our version of her, so he wanted to help her, naturally. It’s in our nature to protect those we love, even when the person in front of us is not the same as the one we know. We’re strangers to this place and we’re doing the best we can to figure out how things work here, but you aren’t exactly helping, now are you? So you can help us or back the hell off!” Her tone was annoyed, as if she might be a parent chastising a child, and she also knew that it might get her killed, but the way Janna saw the situation, they either made it out alive or not, there didn’t really seem to be a in-between, and she was willing to take the risk.

~Janna Kingston, ACNS

Maybe more info than he would have divulged, but the distraction she created served to take the focus of Stark and that was good.

The atmosphere was palpably charged with suspicion, hatred and impending violence. Romulan’s, Federation and Bajoran stood their ground against Tholian, Breen and Gorn. It was like the disappearance of Laraan had created a line that no one wanted to cross.

Orvos alighted from his antigravity platform and whispered to the Athena crew. “Keep talking, we can still salvage this and if we can’t I have an ace in the hole. There are friends on their way and the Captain of the ship is someone the Gorn’s, in particular, won’t want to mess with”.

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

Julien just gave a curd nod but decided to leave the talking to Janna and Kaylee, after all that was her job. Meanwhile he injected Stark with a series of quickly loaded injections containing different liquids and chemicals to stabilise bloodflow and density, circulation, fluid balance, energy levels and organism stabiliseres with a hint of adrenaline, just to help the heart keep up the extra heavy duty it was currently performing in order to keep going despite the extreme energy imbalance that the tricorder was showing. It would stabilise him, but he would still be weak as hell. Janna was right, they had to get him out of here. At the same time Julien needed to stay with the away team… but how to accomplish that without giving away that he was a wee bit more than just a doctor?

Stark looked up at the man. “That’s good stuff” he croaked, “Must get the recipe”.

Janna cast a brief look at Kaylee, knowing the other woman would jump in when it felt right. In fact, if she played it right, she could be the angry ‘bad cop’ and Kaylee could be the one to smooth things over and help gain the trust of this rather mixed group. For now, she was perfectly fine engaging in some verbal riposte as needed. “You all came here for a reason, right? And we were asked to come down here and help. And look what we get for our trouble. Are you going to just let this also be a waste of your time, or are you going to suck up a bit of pride and actually accomplish something worthwhile here. Does no one here have any courage?” she said, almost shrilly. Later on, she figured she could asked to be nominated for the ship’s Best Actress Award.

The word courage had a galvanising effect, especially on the Gorn. Orvos nodded in encouragement.

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist
OOC I’ll wait on the good cop before moving this any further :-)
OOC: Ok :-)

Kaylee took a step forward, adopting a more welcoming stance and letting the tension out of her shoulders.

“There is no need for further violence,” the blonde woman said loudly. “You all came here for a purpose. Let that not be for nothing. If you truly wish for peace then that is something we can attain together. My colleague is correct. We are here to help you. Let us do what we came here to do!”

-Kaylee Baxter

Zogozin drew himself up to speak but the Thoilan Ambassador, Azrene, cut him off by speaking in his place. “We know you are not allied with the renegade and our intelligence has uncovered that that one” he pointed at Stark’s prone form “Is mated to your version of it”. The Tholian seemed to grow in stature as it continued to speak, “We are prepared to continue these talks providing you can ensure no more interruptions and will guarantee that the renegade will be delivered to us when it is captured”.

Zogozin was about to protest when the Breen Ambassador, Thot Gor, spoke in machine code in an assent of Azrene’s words effectively out voting the Gorn.

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

Julien looked at Kaylee, indicating an ever so slight nod, then he looked at Zogozin. “He needs treatment. I’ll return with him to the shuttle where I can stabilize him until you’ve finished talking.” he said, making it more of a statement than a question. A Gorn didn’t react well to submissiveness.

(if that is a go:)

He contacted the NE at the shuttle to beam him and Stark back, hoping that he could stabilize Stark well enough to get him back into action. Before the beam came, he turned to Janna, so that the Gorn and his party could only see his broad back. Between them he touched her com badge and mouthed “Keep the line open” to her, so he would hear what was going on here and could beam back if there was trouble.
