“Well I want to know both,” Janna said pointedly as she sat down. “I mean I get that you probably had nothing to do with our arrival here, since that was all Kivon, whomever the hell he is supposed to be. Yes, this was a beautiful place, but she had questions and felt she deserved answers.

“And where’s Orvos?” Kingston asked.

The woman’s eyes softened a bit. “This garden, the house, the children, the wife. It’s all a part of who you are, a part of you that experiences true joy in these situations. The Nexus acts almost like a warm cozy blanket. The more you wrap yourself up in it, the greater amount of joy you feel. The Nexus is responding to you. It won’t force you into a situation unless you’re near someone else with a more set mind than you. But at that point, the Nexus is responding to a greater need.

“As for you being here in the Nexus, it would seem that you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Kivon has swept you and Orvos in here in order to seek vengeance against a wrong committed against him. Kivon sees it as justice being served against Orvos. And it’s that belief that has caused the Nexus to respond to him. Kivon believes it will bring himself joy. I’m not so sure I agree with him.”

She paused then before speaking of Orvos, almost as though she were collecting her thoughts. “Orvos is…busy. Finding him or even Kivon for that matter would be difficult for you. It may be best to leave him to his own devices.” She took a careful sip of her drink, eyes locked on the pair as she awaited their response.

Stark was looking at the idyllic setting, trying to decide if anything so peaceful could have ever come from his subconscious, but then he was a stranger to himself as Laraan had so ably pointed out.

“Can you kill people here?” he asked bluntly.

Janna shifted her gaze to shift in slight surprise, but she wasn’t honestly sure why. She would’t have worded the question that way, but they were clearly coming at it from different angles. Gazing around at the lush setting, she was understanding Stark a bit more, but since she was adamant about not being here, clearly they weren’t going to get a look at her ideal life. The thought was amusing a best. She didn’t have one. That required forward thinking, something to look forward to. Kingston couldn’t say she truly had that at this point.

Guinan sighed. “It is possible, yes. However in order to do so, it would require a significant overpowering of someone else’s mind. If someone were on the verge of being murdered by another being within the Nexus, the Nexus itself acts as a barrier in a way. One person’s joy can not override another’s, unless the other has given up.”
