While waiting fro the Athena to eventually turn up again, Viyara had decided to work on one of her personal projects. She hadn’t actually asked permission to use one of the science labs. But she was a Starfleet Science Officer, so why shouldn’t she? And who would notice anyway? The personnel on starbases always seemed to be a little more in flux than on ships and they currently had the crew of the Ogawa stranded here as well, waiting for the ship to be repaired. Thus in all likelihood the science staff from the Starbase would assume she was part of the Ogawa’s crew and vice verse. Which should leave her free to do whatever she liked.

Right now that meant testing a theory she had developed the night before. So here she stood alone in the lab, looking at her experiment set up, making sure everything was connected properly. The most prominent feature as a large Liebig condenser. On the left hand side of it stood a Bunsen burner and hanging over it was a round-bottom flask with a fractionating column and a thermometer attached to it. The fractionating column was then attached to the Liebig condenser and underneath the end of it stood another glass flask. Once she was satisfied that everything was set up properly, Viyara turned on the Bunsen burner. Now all she had to do was wait.

A while later, the dark haired Trill swapped the glas flask at the end of the set up, for an empty one. Moving to a neighbouring table, she put the flask down and then inserted a pipette into the liquid. After filling it was liquid, she dropped a few drops in each of the five test tubes in front of her. At first nothing or very little seemed to happen to the liquid within. But suddenly a hissing sound came from the third one and the liquid within seemed to boil. She cursed loudly, but was too late to try and do anything about it. Instead watched the test tube break and the surface of the work desk blister when it came in contact with the liquid. That was not what she had expected.

The space station was a big place. Were they all this big? Juvri had decided to the explore the place - she was stuck here for the next who knows how long anyway. Best know where the best nooks and crannies are. She was headed past a lab. Science had never been… exactly her thing, so she preferred to steer clear. Until she heard someone cursing and then something broke. Turning into the lab the sounds had come from, she got an eyeful of a situation. Another Ensign in a science uniform, stood over a desk which now bubbled and blistered.

Clearly a science accident, but Juvri found herself saying, “What did you do?”

~ Ensign Juvri Dei, Security

At the sound of her voice, Viyara looked up. “I successfully disproved my own theory,” she replied offhandedly. Taking a step back, she leaned against the desk behind her, both hands resting on its surface. She seemed to radiate confidence and there was more than just a hint of mischievousness in her smile. Yet if Juvri payed attention to what lay beneath the surface, she might be able to sense some darker emotions the other woman was apparently trying to stuff away in the deepest realms of her psyche. As she stood there, she let her heterochromatic eyes wander slowly up and down the whole length of Juvri’s body; taking in not only her appearance, but also her body language.

~Ensign Nazeen, Scientist

Juvri was, as usual, doing her best to ignore Viyara’s emotions. Her body language was that of someone who was not overly confident. She kept her arms near her body. She stood with perfect posture, but her shoulders ever so slightly hunched inward. Her eyes usually searched the floor.

“Disproved your theory, huh? Maybe you did a little more than that?” She said, feeling a stab of uncertainty that for some reason, the words would make Viyara angry. She gestured towards the work table. “Looks like a bit of a mess, huh?”

~ Ensign Juvri Dei, Security

Viyara laughed good-naturedly and said, “Well, that is the risk of being a chemist, or biochemist in my case. And where would the fun be if everything stayed neat and clean all the time even when an experiment goes wrong.” She shrugged and then added with a wink, “And it’s just a desk and a test tube. So nothing that can’t be easily replaced.” Tilting her head slightly, she tried to catch the other woman’s eye. “I’m Viyara Nazeen, by the way, and I promise I don’t bite. What’s your name?” she asked. She wondered why the other officer looked so uncertain and insecure. She hadn’t done anything but stop and ask what happened. And that was nothing anyone would get in trouble for with their superiors.

“Yeah… I suppose it’s not like you melted a precious family heirloom or something, huh?” Juvri responded, shrugging. She wasn’t sure how Viyara could be so… un-worried by how much trouble she could get it for doing something like that. Surely their superiors would be less than pleased?

Viyara nodded. “Exactly. Neither did I blow up the lab. That kinda thing does tend to get you into trouble,” she chuckled and winked. “If the Chief Science Officer got angry every time there is relatively minor damage due to an experiment going wrong, they would be angry all the time.”

She brought her gaze up briefly, when Viyara said she didn’t bite, but soon after she went back to studying the floor. She clutched her singular bag, which she’d been toting around with her, closely. “Juvri Dei. I’m uh, gonna be a Security officer on the Athena. You know… when it gets here…” she said, her voice getting quieter as she said ‘when it gets here’.

~ Ensign Juvri Dei, Security

“Another one waiting for the Athena to return, ey?” Viyara asked as she pushed off the table behind her. “Is the Athena going to be your first posting?” she continued as she turned of the Bunsen burner and and then slowly started to take apart the set up of her experiment. It didn’t make sense to try again without looking at her formulas and everything, for clearly she had made a mistake somewhere. And while she didn’t worry about getting into trouble, she did not like leaving everything sitting around. Chances were too high that people would fiddle with it and that could lead to trouble. And while breaking a flask or testing tube didn’t phase her, she’d rather not blow up another lab. For that had been a rather painful experience.

~Ensign Nazeen, Scientist

Standing in the doorway as Viyara began cleaning up the equipment, Juvri nodded in response to her question. She’d honestly been rather terrified of starting on the Athena… mostly because, at the academy, some of the others that gave her a hard time had told her the most awful things about the Chief of Security. They were lying of course. Who knew if they even knew who the Athena’s Cheif of Security was? But Juvri hadn’t known that - and she’d quietly worried ever since.

Still, the few she’d met from the Athena, here on the starbase, were really nice. “What about you, you been on a starship before?” Juvri asked Viyara, after a moment of silence slightly too long. She could tell that Viyara wasn’t the least bit worried, and in a way, that was rather comforting to her.

~ Ensign Juvri Dei, Security

“Oh yes,” Viyara nodded with a grin. “Including the Academy cruise the Athena will be the fourth I’ll be stationed on. Always assuming the Athena will show up again at some point. If not, I’m sure Command will find another place for us to go,” she continued almost carelessly as she finished tidying up. She then got a piece of paper and a pen from who knew where and scribbled a quick note that read, ‘Sorry about the ruined desk. It was an accident. ~V’. Placing the piece of paper on the table and resting the pen on top of it, she looked up at Juvri again; one eyebrow raised and a mischievous grin on her face. “Do you want to do something fun?” she asked.

~Ensign Nazeen, Scientist

“Your fourth?” Juvri said. To her, that seemed like a lot of stations. She’d been under the impression that you didn’t change ships very often at all. But it did seem to explain why Viyara seemed so relaxed. At least, to Juvri it did.

Viyara nodded and shrugged. “I don’t like staying in one place too long. Before coming here I was on the Irii Suu for almost three years. That’s been the longest I’ve been anywhere since moving out.”

“S-something fun?” Juvri asked, getting a sinking feeling of what ‘fun’ might mean to Viyara. If she thought so little of blowing up labs, her idea of fun could be rather disasterous.

~ Ensign Juvri Dei, Security

“Yes!” Viyara grinned. She had a feeling that some of her ideas of fun would terrify the young woman in front of her. And while she didn’t mind pushing boundaries or pushing people out of their comfort zone, she didn’t want to go to far too soon. After all, she didn’t want to terrify her. “We could go to the holodeck,” she suggested.

~Ensign Nazeen, Scientist

Juvri let out a small sigh of relief. “The holodeck? That’s a good idea.” She replied, feeling much better now that she knew Viyara’s idea wasn’t to blow something else up. Juvri rather liked holodecks. A room that could be anything, and anything at all. Of course, Juvri’s favorite place was boring - a quiet library, usually. But she figured that wasn’t exactly what Viyara had in mind. Still, she filed the idea away for later.

~ Ensign Juvri Dei, Security

“Let’s go then,” Viyara grinned and without further ado led the way out of the science lab and towards the holodecks, all the while pondering which program to run. Something that wouldn’t scare her to death, yet nothing boring either.

It didn’t take them long to arrive at their destination and Viyara moved straight towards the control panel and entred a few swift commands. She then gestured towards the door and said with a wide smile, “After you!”

Stepping into the Holodeck, Juvri would find herself looking at a most magnificent mountain rage. Hundreds of metres below them in the valley was a large lake. There was snow on the mountains all around them and very little vegetation; other than moss and some shrubs. Behind her was nothing put sheer smooth rock and by walking through the door, she had ended up on a precipice overlooking everything.

OOC: XD while I’m not exactly prone to motion sickness, thanks for the warning.

IC:
Juvri stopped cold as soon as she realized she was overlooking a huge dropoff. And then she gasped. “That’s beautiful!” she said, turning back to look at Viyara, only to see mossy rocks behind her as well. The planet she had been from was forested, and she had not seen such a view, at least, not for real (or, as real as the holodeck was, anyway). She’d only seen pictures, or videos.

Stepping carefully forward, taking care not to lose her balance, she peered over the edge of the precipice.

~ Ensign Juvri Dei, Security

“Isn’t it?!” Viyara beamed as she stepped onto the holodeck herself. While the doors swished close behind them, she unzipped her uniform jacket and then tossed it in a corner; along with the long sleeved undershirt, leaving only the tank top on. She then took of her boots and socks as well, and rolled her pant-legs up to her knees; leaving not only much more of her Trill markings clearly visible, but also all the tattoos that weren’t covered by the remainder of her clothes (on her arms, legs/feet and upper back).

Walking carelessly to the very edge of the precipice, Viyara spread her arms wide and inhaled deeply. Thus she stood there for a couple of moments, taking in the vast beauty of the Norwegian landscape, before suddenly spinning quickly around, asking, “Do you like to climb?”

OOC: You’re welcome! I thought a warning might be good, for everyone. When I opened the website I didn’t expect it, lol.

OOC always wondered where this is, I’ve seen many pictures of it. Thanks for sharing :-)

“…I’ve never done it before,” Juvri hesitantly admitted, shaking her head. She wasn’t scared of heights, really, but as there were no cliffs on her home planet (or at least, not near to where she lived), she had never tried climbing anything besides, perhaps, the occasional tree.
