Though he looked rather slight, his frame was more solid than it looked. Another strange difference of a sturdier Vulcan anatomy. The impact forced him to exhale, and for fragile second he was unsure of what to do. However, seemingly of their own accord, his arms held her. He didn’t speak, just held on to her. Something in his mind, perhaps even a residual of the meld he’d experienced gave him reasons… partial understanding from context he’d never experienced personally. However it was was that he knew, he knew. This wasn’t for him, or about him… She needed comfort, and he could provide it. So he did. His voice sounded strange in his own ears when he finally spoke. “You will be alright, I promise. I am here.”

Jessica could feel the rush of air leaving Va’rek’s lungs as he exhaled, but a recognition of the discomfort of the situation didn’t register through her sheer exhaustion, physically, mentally, and emotionally. She clung to him forcibly, her slight frame stiff under his embrace, not responding to his soft words as the minutes ticked on. Finally, Va’rek could feel her softening little by little under his grasp, although that seemed to have the effect of her body molding more against his as she sought and snuggled into his comforting warmth. The arms that had stiffly wrapped around his waist loosened slightly and her fingers began to idly rub at his back, digging gently into the muscles to massage them as she took several more slow, deep breaths in her place of momentary safety.

Finally, she moved her arms to his slim hips and leaned back slightly to look up at him, her pale features reddened and wet by the deluge of tears that had coursed down them. Behind them, though, her green eyes twinkled just the slightest bit as she murmured, “hi.”

“Hello…” His eyes found hers. The both looked tired, but there was light there. “I am sorry I could not stop the attack sooner…” He finally said, seeming not to notice that she was still in his arms and he in hers. “I was… concerned.”

Jess snuggled back against his chest as he spoke, enjoying the warmth and comfort that it offered for a few more moments and how unexpectedly relaxed he was with the physical contact. She sighed softly and then wiggled out of his arms, sinking down on the nearby sofa. She reached beside her and plucked up a small stuffed animal that had been resting there, tucking it into her arms before curling her knees up against her chest. The ears of the stuffed llama peeked out over her knees as her green eyes studied the Vulcan for a few moments. “You didn’t do anything wrong,” she murmured softly and then patted the couch next to her to invite him to sit with her.
