Janna’s pace quickened as she made her way over to him, breaking into a jog. Her green eyes held so much of the worry that had flooded her body and as she reached him, she immediately reached out gently rested the tips of her fingers on his chest, careful not to touch the wound. Tipping her head up at him, her vision blurred and she wiped away an errant tear. “What happened?” she asked him, her voice barely above a whisper. All of it was strangely intimate, and yet given their interactions before, and the strange sort of ease between them, it also felt perfectly natural.

“Kivon,” he said tiredly as he put a hand on Janna for support. “He is trying to get to the two of you. He wants to use you to get to me, but I won’t let him. He’s distracted for now, but you must leave here. You must leave the Nexus.” He was confident in this, and he knew full well that he could not leave now.

Stark stood on silently in sentry mode a few respectful steps back. He kept Guinan in his eye sweep as well trying to read everything and anything in this crazy upside-down place where thoughts made fiction into fact.

“I’m not leaving without you, so forget it. Let’s go,” Janna said. “Let Kivon stay here if he likes. We can leave. You just have to want to, apparently.” Would he see reason? Would he come with her and Stark. She knew the CIO had too much sense to stay here too long, intrigued though he may be.

Orvos shook his head. “He won’t stay. It’s not this place that he wants…it’s his misguided idea of justice.”

Meanwhile Guinan stepped closer, her eyes never leaving the storm moving in.

Eyes upward, Kingston frowned. “Come on, Orvos, let’s stop playing his game and just go home. To the Athena,” she added for emphasis.

Orvos sighed, looking into her eyes. “It’s not a game,” he spoke quietly. “He wants me to suffer. Getting to you two is how he means to do it.”

Stark nodded his assent to all Janna was saying not once taking his eyes off Guinan and the storm moving in. Whatever was coming, he was going to meet it, teeth first.

In the distance, Kivon stood at the crest of the hill, a thin steely sword in hand. In a loud, almost magnified voice, he spoke. “Tell them Orvos. Tell them how it was your fault that our homeworld was destroyed! Billions suffering at the hands of the Borg!”

Wait, what? Janna’s face was etched in confusion and she looked at Orvos.

Stark just spat on the ground, he knew his friend, trusted him, there was more to this story, he knew it.

Orvos spun around. “Enough! You settle this with me! I will not allow anyone else to suffer on my behalf.” Suddenly he moved forward, pushing past the pain.

Kivon snarled. “Too little, too late!” Kivon appeared in the middle of the field, sword brandished, clouds moving in with fury.

Before the others could move, a wall was beginning to form, separating the trio from Orvos and Kivon. It was slowly forming and could technically be climbed over.

She didn’t fully understand this whole Nexus thing, but it seemed that you could bend it to your will. Well, she was in danger one way or another, and blood clotting condition or no, she wasn’t leaving him behind. She turned in Guinan’s direction. “Do something!”

Sending a ‘here we go’ look in Stark’s direction, Janna ran full speed at the wall, tackling it like she was bask in her Academy PT class before her Academy cruise and the mission that caused her to try to bleed to death.

“Choose a side, watcher” Stark snarled in an aside to Guinan and then he bounded after her trusting to his skills to make it to the top and ready to assist Janna in the process. He clamped his mental shields in place and was seeking for a way to weaken the wall with his will.

Guinan sighed and simply stayed put.

As the pair made it to the top of the wall, their view had dramatically shifted. They were no longer able to see anything on the other side of the wall, and instead a large room akin to the Athena’s lounge greeted them as they came to the top. Guinan stood at the top of the wall with them, peering into the cavernous place. “Something tells me you won’t be finding Kivon here,” she said as she nodded her head in the direction of a man sitting at a table.

Janna huffed in frustration. She was damned tired of the games! She was also exhausted and a part of her also understood that the events of this day had been unkind and even a bit traumatizing for her. She could sit back as a psychologist and diagnose the pieces but they were useless at the moment. Later though…

The man looked almost exactly like Orvos, however he was wearing a strange dark uniform. There was no evidence of any wounds on this man either. He simply looked at them and gestured to the seats at the table he sat at. Guinan did not hesitate as she made her way to him, leading the way for Stark and Janna.

Her natural curiosity was piqued and yet Janna was wary. Even as she moved closer to the table she was waiting for something else dramatic to change. But as her hand reached the back of the chair, Kingston exhaled slowly. However, she did not sit. “Orvos?” she said, not trusting anything about what she was experiencing here.
