Nothing was booked and it was open practice time on the range on Deck 7. Starfleet officers and Marines alike found themselves getting in the necessary time to keep up their qualifications and for a certain first officer, it was also a strangely relaxing activity.

Kneeling on her right knee, the target in her alcove zoomed over her head and she tilted her compression rifle upwards tracking it in an arc before firing. The holographic target disintegrated only to be replace by another one

The new target came from behind and zoomed over her head. It was an awkward position and forced her to shift her centre of gravity. But if she got up the target would ‘tag’ her and she’d lose this round. The alternate strategy in this situation was to either roll or sit. She opted to actually sit back on her heels, fire the shot and then roll to the side and forward back up onto a knee in order to be ready to fire the next shot. Her shot just pinged off the edge, so while it counted as a hit, it wasn’t a solid one and she frowned.

“Level complete,” the computer announced.

“Computer, prepare Level Six,” Relann called out as she rose to her feet to go find her towel and water. Whomever thought firing weapons didn’t require effort wasn’t likely working on the upper levels. But then again, few people needed to remain up those harder qualification levels. She didn’t anymore herself, but her security background demanded she keep her skills strong.

OOC: This is an open thread for anyone. And I picture multiple alcoves (sort of like a squash court) so several people can do their own practicing on their own or in pairs. I would imagine there’s a much larger one for a small team.

Fell-Drayke, XO

“Not bad,” Phil complimented from his own alcove. Phil was fully laiden with his gear. The excercise he was running was specifically for medics and would every so often present him with a ‘casualty’ requiring to split his concentration between treating it and shooting the moving targets that would shoot back.

“I can do better,” Relann said, brushing a loose set of strands of her snow white hair out of her face. “I prefer clean shots.”

He crouched next to his casualty, laid his rifle infronnt of him and began removing various items from his back pack. constantly glancing up and round looking for a target. Whilst he was concentrating on the figure laid infront of him a target appeared behind him…

-Phil

Frank had been watching from the wall directly beside the doors. He walked towards the alcove. Inside the alcove was a table with a dismantled MarkIII rifle and several power cells. As soon as Frank stepped in, the computer chimed “Reassemble the rifle within three minutes… Begin!” A buzzer sounded off. Frank fumbled the stock in his hands. He attached the stock to the nose of the rifle. He came across a blown out power cell still in the cartridge. He pulled out the power cell from the cartridge and replaced it. He noticed a trigger still in the case. But before he could reach it the computer chimed “exercise incomplete.” Frank cursed under his breath. The rifle quickly disappeared and return to its original dismantled position. “Computer restart exercise” Frank ordered. The computer chimed “Reassemble the rifle within three minutes.... Begin!” A buzzer sounded off. Frank grab the stock of the rifle along with the trigger and slid them both into place in the rifle. Frank pulled out the cartridge from the case and replaced the power cell with a new one. He quickly inserted the cartridge into the rifle. He turned on the power with a push of a button and laid it down on the table. The computer made a buzzing noise “exercise completed successfully. One minute and six seconds left. ” Frank was very pleased with his time, but he knew he could go faster.

Gallagher, Security

Fell glanced over at Gallagher and then back at the Marine. “Hey Phil. What do you say to a little group training in the larger range space? Gallagher and I can run cover for you while you do your simulation.”

Fell-Drayke, XO

The target behind Phil fired at him. The sharp zap struck him square in the back causing him to stand up and swear loudly. “You are dead. Exercise over,” the computer said blandly.

He looked at Fell, “Why not?” he said looking towards Gallagher.

-Phil

Frank looked back at the pair confused. “What’s going on?”
