Rinker would wait in the observation room for the shuttlebay until the probe was brought aboard. The force field along with the transparent aluminium window should keep him safe from a lot of different negative events.

Rinker

Indeed the force field technology, and transparent aluminum should protect the man on the otherside of them. Didn’t the Momentum have such things? Had that technology upgraded that much in the intervening centuries? But everything should be fine. This was Starfleet what could go awry?

“Mr. Drayke how long until the probe is on the ship,” Kelly asked walking up next to Rinker. “You both drew me. Ryley, got the XO,” Kelly informed her counselor waiting for Jacen to update them.

“Should be any moment, one to two minutes tops.” Jacen said as he went back to focusing on the task at hand.

Captain Kelly Shultz

Having not gotten any call to participate in any of the goings on, Tyler took it upon himself to go where he felt he could be useful. Bringing an alien probe on board sounded something like what a Chief Science Officer would be involved in, so he made his way to the shuttle bay, arriving shortly after the Captain.

“I, uh…” He said, appearing behing the Captain. He nervously cleared his throat. “I thought I could be of assistance?” He asked.

As if answering the Captain’s Summons the Probe shimmered into appearance inside of the rated force field that had been requested. In the lights of the shuttle bay, from with the flight control office. The blue energy of the force field shimmered of the golden surface of the probe. There were symbols covering nearly every inch of the surface, making it hard to recognize the antique probe from a bygone era as Starfleet Technology, though before it sat, and the one place it was not covered with Symbols still read, NX-05 USS Momentum. Now the hard work began, Answering the questions that the symbols provided, and figuring the out the questions they did not even know yet to ask.

=^=Computer, Activate the translation matrix.=^= He glanced at the symbols.

He looked at the science officer. “Mr. Wells are you certain that the probe is safe?” He activated the bio scanners. He doubted over the time that the probe was in space there were any organisms on or within the probe that was dangerous, but he guessed that was the reason why they did all the scanning in the first place.

Rinker CNS

“Let’s see what the bio scanners say,” Tyler said, moving over to the terminal and assessing the data coming in. (OOC: GM I didn’t see the results of such scan)

“Well it isn’t ticking,” Kelly said moving as close to it as she could get to inspect the writing. The idea of ticking gave her another idea. “Ensign,” she asked one of the crew under Jacen’s command that had accompanied him to the hanger. “Is the probe still transmitting the distress signal,” she asked biting her lip in thought. The probe seemed very silent at the moment which meant it was harmless of just playing opossum.

Captain Kelly Shultz

=^=Captain, we haven’t secured the probe… it could be contagious or explosive.=^= Rinker would have suggested that she return to the safety of the observation room. But if it was a bio-contaminant she was already exposed.

“We can cut off the signals, and scans can check for organisms but that is all for naught if it just blows up on us” Jacen said as he worked the console as he did a deeper scan. “If I have to get close to this thing, I am going to make certain everything is not going to blow us to hell for even breathing on it.”

Drayke, CE

At the request of the counselor the computer did as requested, beginning to catalogue and separate the myriads of symbols. As each was in theory marked and separated it was placed in a smaller display square on the view screen. It appeared there were hundreds if not thousands of individual symbols, some were combinations of others it would appear and was the making of some sort of language.

The Ensign nodded that it was indeed broadcasting the signal.

Novus Ordo Mundi, GM

=^=Computer correlate the distress signal emanating from the probe with the symbols on it…=^= Perhaps they were the same language and the two elements should make the translation move faster.

Rinker

“I’ve never seen a language like this before,” Tyler mused, looking over at the data the computer was processing.

-Tyler Michael Wells, CSO

“I hope the computer can do a quick translation for us… or I’ll have to break out the decoder ring from that box of ceral I had this morning.”

Rinker

“Did you get the one with the little green center or blue one?” Jacen said as he kept an eye on the device. He was watching it for any signs of dangers as the computer continued.

Drayke, CE

Tyler shot them both strange looks, first to the CNS then to his friend Jacen. What on earth were they talking about? He felt like was in a looney bin momentarily.

“Is there any chance it responds to organic material,” Kelly asked staring at the device. “My Her background is in security and intelligence not engineering but a lot of our equipment was genetically sensitive to specific people such as your DNA to weapons or the lock on a drop box. Could this thing require something like that,” she stared at the probe.

Captain Kelly Shultz

Tyler glanced at the probe and then looked over to the Captain. There was still no info back from the computer one way or the other. He gave a shrug.

“I’m not getting any negative readings. I suppose it would be safe to touch it,” he said.
