Hayes approached the Chief of Security’s Office, No doubt he had called the Admiral after their meeting to ‘inform’ her about the investigation. She would have told him that it was standard for any non federation race to receive such a investigation, and whats more that she was interviewed as part of the investigation. Counter Intelligence tried not to let that out to much. Hayes simply hoped that the Chief of Security had calmed down slightly and would realize the asset that he was about to have on his force. Counter Intelligence was his life.

Hayes reached out and tapped the chime on the wall outside of the closed door.

The doors slid open to reveal the Security Chief’s office. It was decorated sparsely, but had a few odds and ends scattered about. The only thing making it unique was the size of the desk and the chair behind it. Due to the extreme physical size of the Security Chief, those pieces of furniture were larger than normal, making the office seem smaller than it actually was. As the doors opened, Mardusk looked up. “Skipper already told me you were coming. Sit. You and I are gonna have a chat.” and he pointed to a chair in front on the desk. Fortunately for those sitting in the chairs, the desk wasn’t much higher than normal… just a bit more robust and broader.

Hayes entered the office. He assumed this was going to go better that he thought since he had not immediately received phaser fire when the door opened. Hayes entered and stood awkwardly, He had never really had to follow the “military Protocol” that officers had to follow. “Lieutenant”

Mardusk glared a bit and said “Again, sit down.” and he waited for the officer to take a seat.

Mardusk glared at the human for a few long moments and finally sighed and grasped his bald, green head with his hand and rubbed his temples for a second. He leaned forward and spoke low, looking Hayes directly in his eyes. “Look. I know you were doing what you were told when you snuck aboard. It is what it is. But you gotta realize something real quick if you are gonna be a part of my team. I have zero tolerance for people who think they are better than the team. And from what I have seen so far, you come across as you do. And as of right now, you are no longer Counter Intel or whatever the hell you were, and yes I looked. And no, I was didn’t find much. But that job isn’t yours anymore. Now you are part of the ship’s Security team. You work with a group of dedicated people whom I trust to keep this ship and it’s crew safe. People who have proven themselves to me. You are no longer a lone operative, go it? You have rules to follow. Your job isn’t to test those rules anymore. Your job is to make sure they are followed. And you will follow them… at least until I trust you enough to back you up if you break ‘em. But right now, I’ll be honest with you. I don’t trust you. And I don’t like having someone I don’t trust on my team. So…” and the massive Orion leaned back in his chair.

“The way I see it you have two choices. You can stand up and walk outta here because your previous job is more important to you than the one you have been assigned and you don’t have what it takes to differentiate between then and now. Or… you can show me that you are someone I want here. I don’t care about your training. It’s obviously substantial and high-end and whatever… what I care about right now is having someone that I trust to do their job the right way. If you can put your skills to use to do the job you have now… great. If you can’t do that without stepping out of bounds, well, then you and I are gonna have problems. So what’s your choice?”

Bump

Hayes kept his calm at the raised voice of the Chief of Security. “Sir, first of all nothing would make me happier than for you to fire me and send me back to my job. But the fact is intelligence command sent me here for a reason, and they don’t really ever tell any of us what those reason’s are. What it comes to is counter intelligence has a huge place on a ship’s security team. I have recommended it for quite some time to command that they assign CI officers to ships. I have no problems working for you or within the rules that you put forward. What I hope sir is that you will realize the special skills that I possess and you will allow me to work with you to better this ship as best possible sir.”

Hayes was looking into the mans eyes to judge his reaction. The eyes always showed. Hayes hoped that the Chief would realize the importance of counter intelligence is protecting a ship. He would look forward to working with the officer.
