It was part of his duty as Chief Science Officer to report daily to the First Officer. Normally this was done via a report or message submitted electronically. But this morning, something compelled him to make the report - albeit brief - in person.

He knew that she was a busy person. In fact, it felt like months since the two had seen each other in person. If there was anyone on the ship who had the ability to bring him peace and comfort, it was Relann. More than anything right now he needed her guidance. Her friendship.

Approaching her office, he exhaled slowly and then rang the chime.

“Come in,” she called out.

In her modest office, Relann was working away on filing some performance review updates. She smiled as she glanced at the doorway and her visitor. “Hello, Tyler, come on in. What can I do for you?”

Tyler handed her the PaDD containing his department report. “I have this for you,” he said, giving her a smile. “Also it gave me an excuse to come see you. It’s been a while since we had a chance to catch up. How have you been?”

Relann accepted the padd and then leaned back in her sat, gesturing for him to take a seat . “I’m alright, actually. I feel like things are actually calm in my life for once and I’m not entirely sure if that is a good thing or not. But, after everything I welcome the peace,” she said softly.

“How about yourself?”

Tyler sat slowly. “I’m doing well. Still learning the ins and outs of being a department head. It’s been a process.” He paused. “Before she left, I had a visit from Faye. She encouraged me to speak to you regarding the events surrounding my.... incident.” He fidgeted slightly in his seat, the subject still making him uneasy.

“Ah,” the Dy’allan said. “Yes. Well, our little rebel was tapped into some interesting things and there’s a certain point with her I just stop asking. But… you should know that in case you were in any doubt, you’ve been fully cleared from any suspicion. We know for sure you weren’t involved in any sabotage.” She looked around and dropped her voice a bit. “But Faye seemed to understand that there was a connection between you being set-up and your previous… assignments and interactions,” she said gravely.

Grabbing a PADD, Relann pressed her index finger to her lips in the Terran gesture to be quiet. She typed something and then slid the device to Tyler. All it said was, Memory Issues. “Naturally, people might be a bit cautious, but never mind them,” she said, resuming her normal voice as if they weren’t having a second conversation by text. “I believe in you and I hope that’s enough for them and you.”

Bump

Tyler gave a look at the PaDD and then nodded towards Relann, realizing that now was not the time and place to go into great detail. He gave his friend a meek smile.

“Thank you, that really does mean a lot,” He said. “I’m afraid I’ve let things really get to me lately, and my response had been to just shut down and hide away.” He sighed. “I’m glad to know I have your friendship and support through all of this.”
