Phil listened. He genuinely was curious as to what poison Section 31 had used and what their motives and intentions were. He felt for Tyler. He could not imagine loosing his own childhood. Whilst it was a distant memory, he could not imagine being without it. He wasn’t sure what to say. If specialists were unable to find a cure, the chance of him doing so and he didn’t want to offer Tyler any false hope.

Having said that, being a marine medic wasn’t just about field medicine. There was a darker side which included a knowledge of various drugs used in some less savoury interrogation methods and also antidotes for those drugs.

Insomnia was a torture in itself which had no known cure. There were medicines and meditation techniques that could help, but not actually cure it.

“And you can’t sleep tonight?” Phil asked before sipping his steaming coffee.

-Phil

Tyler shrugged, shaking his head in response. “Not tonight, or practically any other night. I’ve tried sedatives, meditation, exercise, alcohol…” his voice trailed off and he sighed.

“I’ve been pretty good about dealing with things, but lately I just feel… alone.” Tyler’s brown eyes looked up and met Phil’s.

Phil raised his right hand and put on Tyler’s shoulder and met his gaze before speaking warmly.

“You’re not alone.”

-Phil

Tyler smiled, the warmth of Phil’s hand touching his shoulder was quite comforting.

“Thank you, I really appreciate that,” he said. Then he let out a soft sigh. “I just wish there was a way to figure this thing out.”

“There is, we just haven’t found it yet,” Phil said, with a smile, “I know that words probably don’t mean much in your circumstances, but I don’t have anything much other than them.”

-Phil

Instinctively Tyler reached out and wrapped his arms around Phil. What he wanted right now more than anything was to be held and comforted. Just for a moment to let his own personal demons slip away and just be lost in the embrace.

BUMP

Phil held Tyler in the hug. He didn’t say anything, he wanted the man in his arms to feel safe. Catching sight of one of his wedding photos, he felt a pang of guilt holding another man in his arms. Phil closed his eyes to block out the sight of his late husband staring back at him from the picture, but it didn’t ease his feeling…

-Phil

Phil waited silently until Tyler was ready to let go…

-Phil

Tyler let the warmth of the embrace take over him, although he did feel a slight tensing up in the man’s muscles. After a few moments of their silent embrace, Tyler finally pulled away. “Thank you, I really needed that.” He looked around, taking in Phil’s quarters.

“I don’t suppose you have any booze lying around here someplace?” Tyler asked, letting out a soft chuckle.
