“No” he admitted bluntly, “only on simulations on the holodeck. Without an exact point of reference I set a program I have to operate with the Auto-loader installed. Seeing as I knew the outcome and circumstances of that battle intimately, I used it to test the improvement of the new system while using Quantum torpedo’s.” Nash paused slightly and took a drink, although noticeably he avoided looking at the Executive Officer.

Even though he wasn’t looking at her, Fell’s intense gaze was one most people could feel and it spoke volumes.

“There was improvement, approximately 38% in fact on the probable outcome of that battle. It showed that the design is viable and that the Quantums will have a marked improvement over the Photon compliment we carry now. Less Quantum torpedo’s were used in fact in that battle than the original Photon’s, although the firing rate was faster. They simply had more impact and the rapid launch capability was harder for the target ships to counter. That’s the basis of my recommendation and I ran the simulation five times.”

Relann nodded. “Okay, let’s schedule a series of live tests before we’re sent off anywhere. Make sure to coordinate any extra power draw with Engineering and let’s have these tests run during Beta shift. I want people still around, but let’s not interrupt normal operations.”

“There are a series of Asteroid belts not far from here, we can set up a targeting program and match that with previous test results from our live firing exercises. Engineering has the power wrapped up, the change is negligible.” Nash noted the test and timing on his PaDD, then reached out and picked up his cup of coffee, finishing it quickly before placing it to one side again. “That concludes my report, I also have the Tactical Duty roster I am submitting for the next week, and my training schedule for my people integrated with that of Security. I want them up to speed with Security procedure and operations as well so that in the event they are needed, they can support the ships security compliment if you have no objections?”

“Not at all. It sounds like a good plan,” Relann said with a nod. “Whenever possible I think cross-training is important. Which bring me to something I was pondering and that is in the form of some special drills. We do the usual department drills, but we might want to expand that and do some more unusual or less expected scenarios. My thought was that it can involve some coordination between key parties, but the rest don’t know it’s a drill.” She sat back with a sort of ‘what do you think?’ kind of look.
