OOC: Anyone can choose to be here, although it is the night shift and the Captain or XO would like not be assigned to this shift.

IC: Day or night were hard to maintain on a ship in space. The changes of shifts really could be occurring at anytime and the monotony was known to cause depression… The response was mandatory changes in the lighting system to emulate the relative increase in ambient light connected to day and night. Ensign Waverly snorted as he spun in his chair, it was insult to injury, not only did he have to work the Omega shift, he also had to do it in low light…

“Nothing ever happens on the Omega shift,” He bemoaned to no one in particular while rubbing his dark black goatee. As if on cue, there was a slight dimming of the panel lighting… and then the ship automatically shifted into Yellow alert.

Waverly looked down at his sensors, “Spatial Anomaly, Port side - aft. Its close, just coming out of subspace… moving fast.” The main screen started getting fuzzy as the anomaly was putting out radiation of a significant amount. “Radiation impacting the hull is at 5,000 millisieverts and climbing.”

SEAI found herself on the bridge that evening, as androids had no need for things as organic as sleep. Glancing at Waverly, she found herself taking charge of the situation, “Raise port shields as high as we can get them. If this continues, see if we can’t maneuver out of the way.” Hitting her Comm badge, she spoke, =/\=As much as I hate to interrupt your beauty sleep Captain, it seems as though we have a bit of an issue on our hands.=/\=

Lt. SEAI (CNS)

Waverly nodded, “Shields up.” He paused, “Sieverts impacting the hull are near zero…” He stared at the readings for and tilted his head.... The main screen cleared up for a moment and then started getting fuzzy again. “However the shields are registering 10,000 millisieverts and climbing, they will start penetrating at 20,000.”

=^=”Engineering to Bridge, Engineering manned and ready. “=^=

Ensign Keene - Engineering

The turbolift to the Bridge opened, and Nash emerged looking around at the crew that were present. Off Duty, he wasn’t in uniform but rather casual clothing that included his slightly worn leather jacket with the high collar. Those that knew him would know that his lighter, cigar and most likely a flask with some kind of strong alcohol would be stowed in the inside pockets.

Seeing that the new head shrink robot had taken charge of the situation, he gave her a nod in recognition and moved to his own station, taking over from the JO in place who moved to another station. He could be more use doing something than sitting in a comfy chair. “Helm, move us away from the anomaly, half impulse” he said, not knowing the order was already given and then saw that the shields had been adjusted already and that an open line to Engineering was in place, nodded in approval and checked if they were having any effect on the radiation the console was showing. “That’s a heck of a lot of radiation hitting us” he said, looking at the robot and loud enough for Engineering to hear. Engineering try and adjust the shield harmonics to see if we can find a range that reduces radiation penetration. Do we have a read on what type of radiation we are getting?” He said to both of them.

Lt Cmdr Nash
Chief Tactical Officer

“Course 90 mark 131, half impulse.” The ensign at the helm responded immediately as the ship turned and burst forward with speed.

=^=”Jeez this thing is pumping out the rads! Uh, Bridge, this thing is doing a serious number on our sensor grid, I’m attempting to compensate. =^=

Ensign Keene - Engineering

Nodding at the sound of the Ensigns voice, and even cracking a humorless grin at her comments, Nash looked to the Helm station for confirmation they were moving away and at SEAI. “Is the Captain on her way?” he asked her, and at the same time tried to get a bearing on the anomaly. Size, rate it was appearing from subspace as well as any gravitational effects. “Keep clearing up those sensors Engineering, we need to know what we have.”

Lt Cmdr Nash
CTO

The effect was huge, at least a thousand kilometers long, shaped like a glowing golden crescent. It didn’t seem to have an outward gravity force but there were flares springing off of it with shear force of 5 to 7. And even though none had come close the ship was shuddering. Its anomaly boundary likely was producing gravimetric shear at a level 8 or higher. Level 7 was lethal to normal ships, level 9 was considered a starship killer.

The lights continued to dim, the power was being drained at a growing rate. Even more troubling the distortion appeared to turn and pursue them increase in speed as the ship starting using more and more power to maintain half impulse. “Helm is sluggish sir… trying to compensate.” He shook his head. “It like navigating in mud.”

Shrugging, SEAI continued to monitor the view-screen. “I contacted her, but so far there has been no reply. If she up late last night there is a 79% chance that we will have to send someone with a bucket of cold water. Otherwise, we should hear a reply soon.”

Lt. SEAI (CNS)

Waverly turned, “The distortion is projecting standard EM radiation across all bands, our sensors are being absorbed so we can’t scan the interior of the anomaly… and it moving at .7c that’s borderline relativistic effect. “

“It will overtake us in 35 seconds at this rate.”

Ensign Waverly, Sci
Deus Ex Machina GM

“We gotta get out of this place” Nash muttered to himself as he worked his console, trying to adjust shields to stem the power drain, “or it will be the last thing we ever do.” Nash looked at the screen, considering the anomaly seemed to be chasing them. It could have simply been a coincidence however and a result of the expansion of the anomaly, they couldn’t tell. Leaning over his console, he made his choice and spoke loudly enough for engineering to hear his hands gripping the edge of his console for just a moment. “Engineering, we need more power! Give everything we got to the warp engines. Helm get us out of here, Warp 1. Move to Red Alert.”

Looking at SEAI he gave the robot a grim look. “Can you help get these sensors back on track? Get a message out to other ships in the area?”

Lt Cmdr Nash, CTO

The bridge screens showed increased power being pumped into the warp engines, ready to fire the ship away from the anomaly.

=^=Keene to Bridge, recommend we divert reserve power from the phaser banks to the structural integrity field or this thing is gonna rip us open like a birthday pinata! =^=

Ensign Keene - Engineering

Nash nodded and looked at SEAI, “If one of those shears hits us, we’re going to need all the reinforcing we can get. “Engineering, this is Nash. Get on with it then, take everything you need, including power from the Captains coffee machine.”
