“So Ian,” Kelly repeated slowly matching the tone and cadence of Relann’s voice as she polished off her drink. “The situation is never go to a spiritual spa resort with a Cajun.” Kelly stopped speaking immediately and reached for the bottle of wine. Picking up a PaDD, she activated one of the files that needed to be reviewed but kept the main focus of her attention on Relann and the topic still on Ian. “He and I met the day I got the Atlantis. He and Nash were in Admiral Perkins office. At that time I did not know they were going to be part of my crew. Nash was silent and brooding whereas Ian was flirting with Perkin’s secretary or at least that is what I initially thought. After my meeting with Perkins Ian caught up to me as I left headquarters. I guess it would have been weird to come up and introduce yourself as my yeoman before I knew I was getting a ship. Either way,” set the bottle down after pouring enough liquid into the glass to make a wine connoisseur cringe in horror, “from that moment on he was with me pretty much non-stop until now. I can’t deny that there was an instant attraction on y part but he was my yeoman and I was recently separated. We kept it professional for about three months. After three months the lines began to blur. He may be laid back 90% of the time but when crap needs to get done he is relentless. It started with lunch pretty much every day and then bled into dinners. What sealed the deal was getting my official separation papers. I always thought Rick and I would go the distance but,” Kelly downed a large swallow of her drink, “life has a funny way of throwing you a curve ball and opening up a window when a door gets closed. I never saw Ian coming but I can’t imagine being without him. We laugh and talk for hours on every topic in the universe.” Kelly got quiet for a moment. It wasn’t as if she and Rick were on bad terms. It also wasn’t as if she and Rick were getting back together. Kelly was firmly with Ian but there were so many people that barely knew of her and Rick splitting up. Maybe that is why it was so hard to talk about this topic. How could Kelly even talk about being head over heels for Ian when the ink wasn’t dry on the separation or divorce papers.

“I understand that feeling,” Relann said honestly before taking a drink of the wine. How many times had she thanked the Spirits for giving her Jacen? She still didn’t always know how it all came about but she was immensely glad it had.

“Any who Ian thought we needed some downtime away from work and the rest of life. In his defense and mine, I don’t think either of us thought that weekend at the Turquoise Mountain Resort would end up the way it did. It was supposed to be a weekend for yoga and turned out to be a crash course on the Karma Sutra. Relann,” Kelly leaned in like she was about to tell a huge secret, “it was like we were teenagers. Knowing the way the weekend ended it later made sense. We just did things backwards with the honeymoon first and the marriage at the end.” A smile slowly spread across her face and Kelly’s cheeks got a bit red as she remembered the details of those three days. Pulling herself from memory lane, Kelly let out a small laugh and took another large sip of wine. “Am I sharing too much,” Kelly asked. She wasn’t sure how much Relann cared to know. Apparently, she and Ian were not as discrete as they might have believed. Relann was the second person to comment about her and the yeoman but Kelly felt far more comfortable having this conversation with Relann than she did with Mardusk.

That Relann was stunned was easy to tell by her expression, but she shook her head. “No, you’re not sharing too much. I am from a very open society, so it’s my natural inclination.

“But wow, you’re married!” Relann’s face shifted from stunned to joy. “Congratulations, Kelly.” She leaned in slightly and elbowed the captain. “You do realize though, that once you two are comfortable with being more public, I get to throw you a party, right?” Anything to celebrate something happy, she was completely in on.

Sipping more wine, the Dy’allan then tapped her head. “Don’t worry though, I think you two are keeping it quite discreet. But I’m an empath, so not much gets by me even if I don’t always have the context.”

“Oh…Oh no we are divorced now,” Kelly said quickly fixing the story. She couldn’t have Rellan think that they were still together even though technically they were but as of right now Ian had no idea she wasn’t ready to get divorced and gave him the requested papers without her signature to file. If the lawyer he used was as competent as a lima bean the truth would come out that their papers were null and void. Until then, however, Kelly needed the crew to believe they were divorced. “It was a quickie marriage and an even quicker divorce.” Kelly was usually good at burying her emotions around telepaths. She had to be as a commanding officer. One novice Betazoid sensing a bit of trepidation from the CO on their first cruise and they could be running around like chicken little screaming the sky had fallen. However, the old saying loose lips sink ships had a more telepathic version which was when you play in the bed they can read what’s in your head. The other version which was more applicable here was when you drain the blue they find out quick what you’re saying isn’t true. To Kelly, this was the reason Romulan Ale was illegal in the Federation and not that the proof was so high you got drunk simply from sniffing the stuff.
