OOC: Anyone can choose to be here, although it is the night shift and the Captain or XO would like not be assigned to this shift.

IC: Day or night were hard to maintain on a ship in space. The changes of shifts really could be occurring at anytime and the monotony was known to cause depression… The response was mandatory changes in the lighting system to emulate the relative increase in ambient light connected to day and night. Ensign Waverly snorted as he spun in his chair, it was insult to injury, not only did he have to work the Omega shift, he also had to do it in low light…

“Nothing ever happens on the Omega shift,” He bemoaned to no one in particular while rubbing his dark black goatee. As if on cue, there was a slight dimming of the panel lighting… and then the ship automatically shifted into Yellow alert.

Waverly looked down at his sensors, “Spatial Anomaly, Port side - aft. Its close, just coming out of subspace… moving fast.” The main screen started getting fuzzy as the anomaly was putting out radiation of a significant amount. “Radiation impacting the hull is at 5,000 millisieverts and climbing.”

Ensign Waverly, Sci
Deus Ex Machina GM

SEAI found herself on the bridge that evening, as androids had no need for things as organic as sleep. Glancing at Waverly, she found herself taking charge of the situation, “Raise port shields as high as we can get them. If this continues, see if we can’t maneuver out of the way.” Hitting her Comm badge, she spoke, =/\=As much as I hate to interrupt your beauty sleep Captain, it seems as though we have a bit of an issue on our hands.=/\=

=====================
Captain’s Quarters...........

She and Ian had gone to bed about two hours ago but what started as a case of stop hogging the covers had turned into a more energetic activity. Time seemed to stand still yet the clock would tell a different tale. Kelly moaned as she felt his lips finding places that he had missed not ten minutes earlier than him. A small laugh bubbled up as her mind started to think about how they were going to have to have a 2000 hour bedtime if all nights were going to go this way.

“Wait I wanna try something I got from that guy from resort, they sent a video recently and I think you might like this.” Ian said as he leaned in kissing down her neck some as he tried to get her legs in position they never were meant to go.

“Ian we need to wrap this up sometime before dawn,” she said in a soft whisper. Kelly had no desire to end anything but one of them had to be responsible. They were due on the bridge in a few hours.

“Oh trust me once I get you in this position your body will be aligned to let out the most amazing pleasures.” Ian said, still fumbling as he seemed to have gotten her legs locked in positions they were not meant to be.

“Yes buh,” she said stopping in mid-sentence as Ian stopped her thought mid-sentence. It was then a another voice was added to the mix instantly killing the effect.

=/\=As much as I hate to interrupt your beauty sleep Captain, it seems as though we have a bit of an issue on our hands.=/\=

Kelly’s hand flopped to the right finding her comm badge. =/\=Status report=/\= Kelly asked half pushing Ian to the left side of the bed and half wiggling to the right side to get up. For anyone to comm her at this hour things had to be going bad. There was enough experience in her senior staff they could all be captains if required.

ATANTIS BRIDGE

Waverly nodded, “Shields up.” He paused, “Sieverts impacting the hull are near zero…” He stared at the readings for and tilted his head.... The main screen cleared up for a moment and then started getting fuzzy again. “However the shields are registering 10,000 millisieverts and climbing, they will start penetrating at 20,000.”

=^=”Engineering to Bridge, Engineering manned and ready. “=^=

Ensign Keene - Engineering

The turbolift to the Bridge opened, and Nash emerged looking around at the crew that were present. Off Duty, he wasn’t in uniform but rather casual clothing that included his slightly worn leather jacket with the high collar. Those that knew him would know that his lighter, cigar and most likely a flask with some kind of strong alcohol would be stowed in the inside pockets.

Seeing that the new head shrink robot had taken charge of the situation, he gave her a nod in recognition and moved to his own station, taking over from the JO in place who moved to another station. He could be more use doing something than sitting in a comfy chair. “Helm, move us away from the anomaly, half impulse” he said, not knowing the order was already given and then saw that the shields had been adjusted already and that an open line to Engineering was in place, nodded in approval and checked if they were having any effect on the radiation the console was showing. “That’s a heck of a lot of radiation hitting us” he said, looking at the robot and loud enough for Engineering to hear. Engineering try and adjust the shield harmonics to see if we can find a range that reduces radiation penetration. Do we have a read on what type of radiation we are getting?” He said to both of them.

Lt Cmdr Nash
Chief Tactical Officer

“Course 90 mark 131, half impulse.” The ensign at the helm responded immediately as the ship turned and burst forward with speed.

=^=”Jeez this thing is pumping out the rads! Uh, Bridge, this thing is doing a serious number on our sensor grid, I’m attempting to compensate. =^=

=/\= Ensign if you wreck my engines I will take it out of your hide, if needed EMMA can take over, she is assistant Chief so don’t screw up this chance.=/\= Jacen said from his station on the bridge, he wanted to monitor a few things up here before getting back down and didn’t want someone screwing up how everything was working.

================
Captian’s quarters

=/\=Lt. SEAI. Lt. SEAI,=/\= Kelly repeated hearing cracks and pops through the comm line but not a reply by the night officer. Kelly pulled on the pair of pants lying in a heap on the floor by the bed. Now was not a time for wrinkles. =/\=I am on route to the bridge. I repeat I am on route to the bridge =/\= Kelly replied half pulling and half jumping into her clothes. Grabbing a black duty shirt that was tossed on the bench at the foot of the bed, Kelly made her way to the living room pulling it over her head.

“Wait I think that’s…” Ian looked down at his shirt, it was read but it had extra pips and felt really tight. “You feel a little loose in your uniform? Anything you wanna notice?” Ian yelled as he came in/

====================
ATLANTIS BRIDGE

Nodding at the sound of the Ensigns voice, and even cracking a humorless grin at her comments, Nash looked to the Helm station for confirmation they were moving away and at SEAI. “Is the Captain on her way?” he asked her, and at the same time tried to get a bearing on the anomaly. Size, rate it was appearing from subspace as well as any gravitational effects. “Keep clearing up those sensors Engineering, we need to know what we have.”

Lt Cmdr Nash
CTO

The effect was huge, at least a thousand kilometers long, shaped like a glowing golden crescent. It didn’t seem to have an outward gravity force but there were flares springing off of it with shear force of 5 to 7. And even though none had come close the ship was shuddering. Its anomaly boundary likely was producing gravimetric shear at a level 8 or higher. Level 7 was lethal to normal ships, level 9 was considered a starship killer.

The lights continued to dim, the power was being drained at a growing rate. Even more troubling the distortion appeared to turn and pursue them increase in speed as the ship starting using more and more power to maintain half impulse. “Helm is sluggish sir… trying to compensate.” He shook his head. “It like navigating in mud.”

Shrugging, SEAI continued to monitor the view-screen. “I contacted her, but so far there has been no reply. If she up late last night there is a 79% chance that we will have to send someone with a bucket of cold water. Otherwise, we should hear a reply soon.”

Lt. SEAI (CNS)

Waverly turned, “The distortion is projecting standard EM radiation across all bands, our sensors are being absorbed so we can’t scan the interior of the anomaly… and it moving at .7c that’s borderline relativistic effect. “

“It will overtake us in 35 seconds at this rate.”

Ensign Waverly, Sci
Deus Ex Machina GM

“We gotta get out of this place” Nash muttered to himself as he worked his console, trying to adjust shields to stem the power drain, “or it will be the last thing we ever ‘do.” Nash looked at the screen, considering the anomaly seemed to be chasing them. It could have simply been a coincidence however and a result of the expansion of the anomaly, they couldn’t tell. Leaning over his console, he made his choice and spoke loudly enough for engineering to hear his hands gripping the edge of his console for just a moment. “Engineering, we need more power! Give everything we got to the warp engines. Helm get us out of here, Warp 1. Move to Red Alert.”

Looking at SEAI he gave the robot a grim look. “Can you help get these sensors back on track? Get a message out to other ships in the area?”

Lt Cmdr Nash, CTO

Communications would receive a microburst transmission that sounded like a chirp coming from either within or behind the anomaly. There was no way to be certain with the current blinding wave of radiation.

SEAI tapped the status display on the chair, “It seems that we cannot get any information out, but I believe that I have detected a sort of… chirping noise coming from the anomaly. Unless it is actually a giant space phoenix, I have no suggestions as to what it could be.”

Lt SEAI (CNS)

TURBO ON ROUTE TO BRIDGE

=/\=Lt. SEAI ETA to the bridge is....ahhhh=/\= Kelly winced hearing a piercing sound reverberate through the comm line. She looked at Ian with concern on her face. Whatever the bridge was dealing with seemed to be affecting the entire ship.

“Well, we get one night to ourselves and they have to break everything.” Ian said as he went to a wall panel looking at the readout, concern draping over his face as he glanced back over at Kelly. “Sure Jacen can fix that right?”

“Ian,” Kelly said but stopped as she felt the turbo hiccup slightly and the lights dim some. “Something is draining the power,” she stated the obvious looking at Ian and then the floor counter of the turbo making a plan for what they would do if the turbo suddenly stopped. Her faith in Drayke was the only thing that kept her from calling down to engineering at this moment. The man was laid back but that did not mean he was not always on top of his ship and her needs. Odds were he was either on route like she was from his bed or already dealing with the situation.

“We could always pop the latch and get into a jefferies tube…” Ian said looking up for the access panel. “You don’t mind climbing love?”

========================
ATLANTIS BRIDGE

The bridge screens showed increased power being pumped into the warp engines, ready to fire the ship away from the anomaly.

The power from the shields were being drained almost as fast as they could be formed. The beast was eating the electromagnetic projections from the ship.

=^=Keene to Bridge, recommend we divert reserve power from the phaser banks to the structural integrity field or this thing is gonna rip us open like a birthday pinata! =^=

Ensign Keene - Engineering

The red alert claxons started sounding as the red band of lights came on alongside the regular ship lighting. =^=Red Alert… all stations… we are at red alert.=^=

Nash nodded and looked at SEAI, “If one of those shears hits us, we’re going to need all the reinforcing we can get. “Engineering, this is Nash. Get on with it then, take everything you need, including power from the Captains coffee machine.”

Lt Cmdr Nash, CTO

“Don’t you touch that coffee machine, it’s the only thing that is going to keep her from killing you if this goes awry.” Jacen said, working he monitored the numbers coming from Engineering, he wasn’t worried yet but they needed to act faster he felt.

Everything was losing power, shields, phasers, life support. If it carried a charge is was being sucked away.

“Warp One,” The helmsman tapped a few keys his face moving from concern to a slight smirk “Buh, bye…” They might not be able to out run it at sublight but there were few natural phenomena that could surpass the speed of light. The ship hummed for a moment and then disappointingly didn’t go to warp. The helmsman smirk faded.. “We can’t form a warp field.” Under his breath there was what sounded like a curse.

“Full impulse sir?” The helmsman hand hovered over the key. It would at least buy them some more time.

Nash shook his head. “No point Ensign. It’s following us at 0.7c, we can only make 0.25 at max impulse, we’re talking a second at this point.

It was closer to 7 seconds, but the helm officer nodded as he looked at his console impotently.

Waverly turned “The gravimetric distortions extend through subspace disrupting the warp bubble.... we need to be at least a quarter of a million kilometers away to even attempt one.” The ship rocked ominously as a counter point to his statement.

“Can we produce some kind of effect in the next 15 seconds to ride the edge of the anomaly? Sound Brace for Impact.”

The turbo stopped at its destination but the doors only opened a crack. Kelly looked at Ian and instantly went to the space using her fingers to pry it apart. Safety design features allowed its occupants to pry it open but it was not the easiest thing to do.

“Next time I say we still take the tubes.” Ian said as he helped Kelly out of the lift.

Mardusk stepped onto the bridge after pushing the now-slowly opening doors apart. He looked at the Security officer at the station and said “Status.” After receiving his report on their current situation, he nodded and said “Get down to the Security office. Guards at all controlled spaces, and begin evacuation of all non-critical spaces. And get me a head count of everyone once the shelters are full.” and he took over the Security console.

Mardusk, CoS

“Captain on the bridge,” a voice announced out of nowhere.

Almost on Mardusk’s heels but from another entrance Kelly and Ian entered the bridge in time to hear Mardusk request a status update. Kelly was thankful that at least she and her COS arrived at the same time. During events like this, having to repeat things several times wasted precious seconds. From the looks of things, they needed every second. Moving to the command chair, Kelly waited for SEAI to stand as her crew began to update her on the situation.

Captain Kelly Shultz

IC: “We have seconds left before That hits us” Nash indicated the image on screen. “It’s huge, we can’t outrun it and we can’t go to warp. Power is being drained as fast as we can put it into the systems.”

Lt Cmdr Nash, CTO

“I am working to compensate that, if we can get dampening fields up in the areas being drained it may slow it down, the issue is we need energy to get those fields up… kind of a catch 22.” shouted Jacen.

Drayke, CE

OOC: Fixing split

One of the turbolift doors began to inch its way open, and through the slight crack, one could see fingertips gripping onto the deck, and slightly above that a tuft of tousled brown hair.

“A little help here please!!!” Came the strained voice of the CSO over the din.

Waving his hand in the lifts direction, the Relief Bridge Officer who had been at tactical before Nash got there ran to the door and, gripped the sides and helped the CSO to open the doors.

-Tyler Michael Wells, CSO

Standing, SEAI approached the helmsman, “I have heard the saying, when life gives you lemons, burn life’s house down with said lemons. I don’t know why humans use that as a saying for thinking outside of the box, but nonetheless I believe that we should start exploring other options. Is there any way we can survive being hit by that thing? Barring that, do we have anything we can use as a temporary push?”

Lt. SEAI (CNS)

If the shields were at full strength and if the inside of the anomaly was not as dangerous as the outside there was a 20% chance they could transition into the effect. Of course that doesn’t mean they would have enough power to make it back out.

The micro burst transmission came again from within the anomaly, but instead of stopping the moment it was complete, it started repeating as if to try to force the Atlantis to listen.

GM

Nash looked at his console and the incoming transmission, flicking it onto speakers as he did so without waiting for the Captains orders. There wasn’t time. “We have a repeating signal from within the anomaly” he told them, “I’m going to put it through the universal translator and see if it recognizes anything.”

“Can we dump all remaining power into shields at the last moment, try to let the wave pass us and hope a gravity shear doesn’t tear us apart?” He said to Drayke, “we aren’t escaping this.”

Lt Cmdr Nash, CTO

There was a good chance that plan would work. The computer projected a 29% chance that the ship would have only moderate structural and a few dozen casualties - of course the other 71% would be a that the ship and crew would be total loss.

Into the din and chaos Ryley’s voice yelled over the comm, =^=Sickbay to bridge. If you guys are trying to dammed well pull us apart and injure half the crew you’re going about it the right way! What the hell is happening!?=^=

The communication was gibberish until the translator figured out that the communication was at 10 times normal speed. =^=Cut power and inverse the polarity of your shields… Damn fools why aren’t you listening. .... it’s too late now… =^= Out of the anomaly came a bluish green beam that reached out towards the Atlantis. =^=I guess you’re coming with me.=^=
