(snip)

Suddenly the rocking of the ship stopped and it grew eerily silent.

The blow conduit was the most urgent of the issues. There was moderate structural damage on two decks and minor damage on three more. The other problems including overloads and blown gel packs across the whole ship. It was as if suddenly losing power was an issue to the electronics of the ship.

Taking advantage of the moments calm, Sam took the chance to relay the worst of the damage to the command team.

=^=Bridge - Damage report, We’ve got structural damage across decks 6-10 with multiple overloaded conduits and blown gel packs across all systems....... =^=

A disembodied face, that seemed like a stone golem appeared before the warp drive staring it for a moment before turning and facing Keene, “=^= Better turn that thing off, if you go to warp in here…=^= the face looked confused for a moment. =^=Hmmm, actually I have no idea what would happen. But I suspect it wouldn’t be good.=^=

GM

Sam took a step back at the sudden appearance of the entity, almost as startled by it’s craggy features as by the fact that it spoke in such a matter of fact turn of phrase.

=^=....... Um..... Bridge..... we have a, uh, visitor in main engineering. He, errr, It recommends shutting down the Warp Drive as it may cause further damage at this time. =^=

“Would it be better if I do this on the bridge?” The head nodded towards the engine… “I’m telling you turn that thing off. I can’t…” He turned towards the warp controls and as if he knew exactly what buttons to depress the warp drive was shut down. It was not as if Keene couldn’t reverse the process by reversing the buttons that somehow mystically were depressed by this creature. “I’ll explain to your hierarchical leader.”

And with that the face faded away…

Silence reigned in Main Engineering following the sudden appearance and equally sudden disappearance of their ‘guest’, the only noise being the background wail of the red alert klaxon and the fizzle-crackle of broken power conduits. The night watch crew simply stared at each other for a moment as they tried to process if THAT had actually happened, or if they had experienced some sort of mass hallucination caused by standing too close to burning plastic…

Sam snapped out of it first, “OK People, let’s stop gawping at each other like startled baby axolotl and start acting like a Star Fleet crew shall we??” She called, stepping over to the systems status board and slamming down a pile of PADD’s on to the casing with a crash loud enough to break the crew out of their momentary paralysis.

“Do you want this ship looking like some filthy dirt trader when the Chief gets down here, or something like the Star Fleet Vessel she was when we took over the watch??”

She started programming repair duties onto the stack of PADD’s and handing them out, in many ways relaxed to have a problem to deal with that didn’t involve crazy space anomalies or possible first contact situations.

“Biggs, N’thar, get yourself up to decks 7&8 and eyeball the structural damage, I want a full first hand assessment..... O’Higgins, Sharan, N’Kol… “

“Aye, Ma’am…” The teams dispersed as requested. After a suitable amount of time the damage reports would come trickling in. The upside was that there were no new reports, but the old ones still presented an issue.

“Ok, try it again! No the OTHER connection!”

A shower of sparks burst from under the fried console that Sam had been working on, causing the fur on a passing Caitian crewman to stand on end. However, the console popped back into life, displaying a rotating 3D image of the ship.

The sudden stillness of the ship allowed Relann to make her way to engineering (OOC: presuming nothing stooped her, of course). Stepping into the chaotic bay, the Dy’allan kept out of the way and observed for a moment to see who was currently in charge at this time while Jacen was calling the shots up on the bridge. Spying Keen issuing orders, Relann moved over. “Status ensign?” she said calmly.

Sam glanced up from the newly repaired console and the sound of the voice, to see the unexpected appearance of the ship’s XO, a figure she’d so far only seen in briefing documents and in passing.

“Sir, we took a few pretty big bumps from the anomaly. The STF pretty much held once I diverted power to re-enforce it but we still took some structural damage, in the main across decks 6 to 10, with the worst being here on decks 7 and 8, where we had electrical fire.”

Sam caused the diagram of the ship to rotate and clearly display the worst of the damage, two area’s on decks 7 and 8 flashing red with several other nearby sections outlined in orange to indicate less severe damage.

“I’ve dispatched damage control teams to the worst hit areas, and an engineering team to assess the structural damage. With so many systems taking a hit I wanted the benefit of a first hand Mark I eyeball survey.”

She again manipulated the console, this time bringing up a scrolling list of ship’s systems, most of which were outlined in red or amber, or simply ‘???’ to indicate an unknown status.

“A whole lot of our systems reacted badly to the power drain and rough handling of the ship Sir. I’ve dispatched repair teams to priority systems but we’ve got so many burnt out EPS conduits and fried gel packs that we’ll be cleaning this lot up until the cows come home.”

Sam met the eye of the XO and attempted to inject a bit of levity into the doom and gloom of her report.

“I’m afraid to say Sir… the Captain’s coffee maker didn’t make it.” She said, deadpan, but with a twinkle in her eye and a small smile at the corner of her mouth.
