The rocking of the ship calmed, in fact it was quite peaceful with the exception of the casualties that started rushing thorough the doors. The first set was easy enough to diagnose on sight, plasma burns. “It was deck eight, doc…” said the three sets of officers who were carrying, three different injured people. “The wall blew up right in front of them.”

Deus Ex Machina

Ashlynn was on duty when the wounded started coming in and turned the rest of the team that was on duty “Get them on bed and start treating with dermalin gel. Make sure their airways are not compromised.” She said moving over to the closest officer that had been injured. She touched her comm badge =^=Summers to Ryley we’ve got casualties, I need you in Sickbay.=^= She said as she began her inital scans of the officer in front of her.

Phil had been in Sickbay at the time carying out a medical evaluation on a new marine when the ship had shaken. When the casualties started to arrive, he dismissed the young marine to create more space for the casualties that were flowing in.

“Dermalin!” he called for as he chose a patient and scanned to check airways. A nurse whistled to get his attention and tossed a cylindrical tube containing a pale blue, translucent gel to him. Phil caught it with ease in one hand. Seeing the applicator nozzle already attached to the tube he instinctively double checked the contents and began to apply to cooling gel to the plasma burns.

“This will help to soothe the pain,” he said gently to his patient who was clearly in pain and terrified.

-Phil

Ashlynn looked at the ones that had brought them in “What exactly happened?” She asked to anyone that might know the answer, she turned to one of the nurses “Go to the supply room and get more dermalin gel and hydronolin to help with the pain.

One of the injured, a female relatively young spoke, “Jocelyn, Matt and I were going to our station on deck eight when we heard a hissing behind a panel.” She shook her head, which elicited a groan of pain, “We stopped, it was just instinct to a strange sound, and then we felt the heat coming from the wall. We knew instantly that it had to be and EPS conduit, Matt yelled for us to scatter, and we ran… ” She paused… “Not fast or far enough.”

Ensign Miranda Reese was the least injured of the three, with only the exposed areas of her body having burns. However the exposed areas were her face and hands. The hair on the back and side of her face were scorched away by the blast of heat.

Jocelyn and Matt were worse off with second and third degree burns over 60% of their bodies and with their uniforms burned into the skin.

Ashlynn nods “Just relax, we’ll get you all squared away.” She said as she continued treating whom she could now assume as Matt. She put a hand on his shoulder “I’m going to give you something for the pain and help you relax while we treat your injuries.” She said as she administered anesthazine and hydrocortaline to help with the pain. Once the bed took over his biological functions, she began treating the deep burns in a sterile setting to prevent infection.

Phil was in the next bay performing a very similar treatment to Jocelyn. Whilst the Fleet uniforms were fire & heat retardent, they were no match for the heat of a plasma fire. He gently peeled back the remains of the uniform slowly, applying dermalin every time a few inches of burnt flesh was revealed. “Careful. Like so,” he said quietly demonstrating to a trainee doctor that had rushed over to assist., “Just a couple of inches at a time nthen apply the Dermalin before the oxygen in the fresh air causes the burning sensation to intensify.” The sight and stench of the burnt flesh would be enough to make many people wretch, But it was one that Phil had seen in the field before.

-Phil

The officer groaned as the procedure went on. He placed his uninjured hand over his mouth as he mumbled something like, “Are you kidding me,” or something like “Are you killing me?”

The procedure went as smoothly as it could given that Phil was trying to repair burns that would never heal in the 21st century and probably would lead to death. Fortunately this was the 24th century and while it was no simple task. It was more likely that not, that both badly burned officers would be without long term damage.

Ryley appeared then, med kit in hand and supporting an NE who was limping and seemed to have fallen in the ruckus. He passed the NE off to a nurse with a quick instruction and seeing the two most injured crew were being expertly attended to he approached Miranda and gently turned her head to look at her injury more closely.

“Are you hurt anywhere else apart from the burns?” He asked as he gave the area a scan and then began to apply some gel to the wound from the tray Bailey brought him.

“Hadn’t really thought about it doc,” Miranda said through clenched teeth. “The burns kind of occupied most of my thoughts.” The scans had indicated contusions and scrapes consistent with a significant fall. Although in comparison, to the burns, the bruises were very minor. She gestured to one of her knees that was bleeding through her pants.

Ryley nodded and finishing the gel application gently took hold of Miranda by the shoulders and pushed her back. “Lie down, i’m Going to run a full scan for a minute while the gel works then i’ll start the dermal regeneration series and look at your other injuries.” He presses a hypo against her neck. “I’m giving you something for the pain.” He explained as it hissed.

Once she was comfortable he started the full scan to get a more accurate reading of her injuries while Bailey began trying to clean up the bleeding on her knee.

He would hear an exhalation of relief. A breath that she didn’t even know she was holding.

Finished scanning Ryley began running the dermal regenerator over the burn. “What the hell happened?”

“Panel 14 crossing deck 7 and 8 blew like the forth of July. We were too close, like amateurs we were wondering why the wall was radiating heat without checking from a safe distance.”

“I’d rather you be concious, but I can sedate you if you’d prefer,” Phil offered his patient as he began to operate the dermal regenerator on the burns.

-Phil

“I’m going to need to go back on duty.” She looked to the wall, “I have an EPS conduit to repair.”

Ensign Miranda Reese
GM

Ryley made a noise that sounded like pfffft as he finished treating the burns and turned to deal with the knee injury.
“You’ll go when I’m done with you and say you can go.” He said without looking up from the task at hand. To the room in general he said “Can we have a Report from all decks when someone’s free. Hate to think there was people sitting in corridors somewhere with a concussion or fracture from the bounding about…” His time was sarcastic but he meant it.

MD

There was no evidence of a concussion or infection. Although with such huge amounts of burns and open skins infection from the air is incredibly likely.

Ash paused for a moment from treating the officer in front of her and touched her comm badge =^=Sickbay to the Bridge, casualty report please?=^= She said as she carefully continued to peel away the burned uniform and treat with the dermalin gel. It was a slow process, it would take several treatments with a dermal regenerator to remove most of the scarring as she worked “finding out what the damage is Ryley.” Ashlynn bent her head down a bit closer at a particularly stuck spot.

Bump

The ensign was a surprisingly good patient. Despite what had to be painful tugging at the melted on, burnt in uniform the young officer only exhaled loudly at the most stuck points. Although there wasn’t a bridge report, there were no other people coming into sickbay nor any reports of anything beyond bumps and bruises.

GM

Ashlynn gave a wry smile to the Ensign “I apologize.” She said as she gave him another dose of hydrocorteline to help with the pain “That will help with the pain.” She said as she continued working, the dermalin gel would help prevent infection. She looked up “Get me a dermal regenerator.” She said to the nurse that was walking by.
