“Why do you care?” she said softly. “I mean, after all this time and all you have accomplished, why does it matter if he approves or not? Or is this”-she gestured in a circle to his outfit-“a survival mechanism while they are here. I mean, I would get it if it was, but the Alexxander Ryley I know doesn’t need approval from anyone.” It would normally be at this point that Relann would be kicked out, except that he had come to her office, and he also knew that she’d stick by him through whatever this ended up actually being.

Ryley scowled darkly at the woman before him and considered either up ending the entire contents of his remaining coffee onto her and storming out or hitting her with the cane by accident he took a deep calming breath instead.

There were days she was actually glad her telepathy actually worked by touch specifically, because otherwise the intensity of the thought he quite often sent in her direction would probably have knocked her over. Though, after years in his presence, Relann was mostly immune to even the dangerous feelings that went with said thoughts. It was just a hazard of being friends with someone like Alexx and she had long accepted accepted the risks as being a part of the deal.

“Survival mechanism, purely to save me the headache it’s better than the happy hypo solution especially since…you know the whole narcotics thing,” he waved his hand in a similar circular motion to hers. “And I don’t care…” he added and his scowl darkened. “I don’t.”

“Uh huh,” she remarked before sipping from her mug. “Sure.” Yeah, like he even expected her to buy it. He had to know that much.

“Noo.” He stated, elongating the syllable on the o. “You’re supposed to support recovering addicts not dismiss them. Tsk tsk.”

“I remarked on your not caring, not on the narcotics part. I think we’re both agreed that happy-hypos aren’t the answer,” Fell said pragmatically.

He drank the coffee. When it was empty he weighed up the pros and cons of the liquid caffeine then shook the mug at her.

Taking another sip, Fell exhaled. “So, how do you want to play it? Standard meet and greet, introduce me as the first officer, and see how long we can keep them off your back?” Her violet eyes glittered with amusement. Despite the seriousness of the situation, it was rare to see him in a situation that made him actually squirm with discomfort.

“Well yeah but only till I get the Anesthizine going. Then you can go nap nap,”

“Awww, and here people think you don’t care,” she said with a smirk.

Fell-Drayke, XO

“Yeah yeah yeah.” Ryley muttered with a wave of his hand. He sighed and ran a hand over his beard. “Do you think if I borrowed a shuttle and kind of just vanished for a while this would go away?”
