Kelly listened to her story. It was an enigma to be sure. “So anything else I should know about you? What are your weaknesses,” Kelly asked as she looked over the information on the PaDD. All services records held the same vanilla information. Kelly wanted to know the things that mattered. She was a laid back Captian but also one that was able to be laid back because her staff was on top of things. They all had shining records and glittering medals but each one of them was a sentient being with fears and weaknesses. Some were the obvious things like a wife or child but other fears could be harder to find out until it was too late.Captain Kelly Shutlz
River thought “Knowing your weaknesses is always a difficult business. What you see as a weakness other see as a strength, and what you think is a strength many think it’s a weakness. To me my biggest weakness is my emotions, that’s why i have worked hard to lock them away. they only cause suffering to you and others and our only good for getting you or others killed. believe me I’ve seen just that happen far to many times.” she said simply and coldly.
“However many would say that i am to harsh with my men. That i follow orders to easily and i do not question them, even if they are in a moral grey area. I can see why other would see that as a weakness but i see it as a way of keeping those under my command in line, and how to keep things running smoothly. So i’d have to say those are my weaknesses.” she added after a short pause.

“So you don’t follow your gut,” Kelly asked taking a sip of her coffee. Kelly knew she was twisting River’s words a bit but this was the first time she had met the marine. “You know being a stickler for rules in all situations is dangerous. I am not saying defy orders but have you never been in a situation where the real-time events differ from what intell stated they would be?”

“If the order is vague like hold the ship. then I’ll follow that order and do it my way. Using my gut to judge the situation. However if you said don’t go into section 34A then i wouldn’t go there.” River said clarifying what she meant as she thought the captain had misunderstood her.
“As for wrong intel. that happen a lot on my last posting. One time we we’re told to evac a school in a cleared safe zone. It was a trap. the area wasn’t safe at all. I went in with twelve men i came out with three and one survivor from the school. Every since then i take all Intel with a pinch of salt and over prepare, i’d much rather have the force and not need it, then not have the force and need it.” she said finishing her coffee.

Kelly nodded her approval of Styxx response. Some captains wanted automatons for a crew but Kelly preferred out of the box thinkers that went with their guts in times of crisis. River seemed like one of them. “So any questions for me. I have an open door policy. You can come at any time but since you are here and this is a one on one I am happy to field anything on your mind.”

River thought for a few moments “I have a couple. I was not given a rank when i boarded the ship and my superiors did not inform me of any changed so Am i still a lieutenant. Also f the ship was ever boarded who gets overall command of the defense aside from your self, is it the marines or the security officers? Also do you know what the relationship between the marines and the security department is like? ” River asked respectfully. she had many more question but this three would do for now.

“Your file says you are still a Lt. but I can assure you that my XO and I do monthly reviews of the crew,” Kelly said keeping a neutral expression. After the last crew review, the month before both women thought that maybe they might get more work done if they did not wear PJ’s or have a drink while they worked. “As for the defense of the ship, I tend to think of it as a team approach. Mardusk will be in command but I am sure that your input in that situation would be seen as highly valuable. You would be in command of any away mission but much like a ship boarding party, Mardusk would typically be on any away mission too. You would be in command but I trust you would take his advice with as much respect as he would take yours in a ship scenario. As to intradepartmental relations,” Kelly got a small smile. “They are amicable until you get into the gym or engage in a basketball game after hours. Then all bets are off.”

River listened to the captain “That’s good to hear. I have a respect for security officers. I wouldn’t have been able to do what i did with out them. It’s good thew thew departments get on well. I know that in some ships there’s a playful rivalry but on other the marines and the security officer are at logger heads.” she said simply.
“it’s been a long time since I’ve had a chance to do anything recreational. I used to be pretty good a at a fair few sports. I’ll have to dust off my skills i think.” she added after a short pause.

“Do you golf,” Kelly asked trying not to hide her excitement. Few people ever wanted to play her brand of golf. Maybe it was up River’s ally. The woman was a marine after all.

River thought form a few moments. she could tell the captain was excited about the idea. “I’ve dabbled in the past. I wasn’t very good. However I do love a challenge.” she said simply “What did you have in mind? i do hope it’s note the normal version. That one is very boring ” she said.

“Oh anything but. Meet me in holoeck two tomorrow at 0900 hours,” Kelly said standing up and extending her hand. “Welcome aboard the Atlantis.”

OCC: So I have created a version of golf called Altered Golf. I saw something similar once on TV but is “star Treked it”. I will create a new thread you can join and I will open it for a few others if they want to join to. Sound okay? ~ Kate
River accepted the hand shake. her shake was firm and strong “I look forward to it. But i am sure you will probably beat me. But that doesn’t mean I’ll go easy on you” she said with a half smile. However her smile seemed a little cold.
