(snipping for sanity’s sake)

“Ya’ think,” she replied to her CoS in a low tone. It was more her nerves than actual sarcasm but Mardusk would know that.

SEAI walked up close to the captain and spoke in a similar voice, “Agreed, though it is best to use half truths, as they are easier to believe than outright lies.”

SEAI (CNS)

“Hug the truth. I’m a woman. I do that every time I take Ian’s credit card,” Kelly nodded to her officers.

=/\=We had an amicable relationship as we hope to start with you. I accept your invitation to Base 5 for a cultural exchange. Would you prefer to send us the coordinates or have us follow you, =/\= Kelly asked the Aflian.

Captain Kelly Shultz

Mardusk immediately sent word to the Security Section to prepare for upcoming arrival at an unknown station. All Security personnel would be on duty until further notice. He also sent word to Science and Engineering sections to notify him immediately of any issues that seemed ‘outside of normal operations’.

Mardusk, CoS

=^=Ah, Captain, while I’m certain a ship as fine and advanced as yours would have little difficulty transversing the distance to Base Five, this is a contested area of space… and those who may happen upon you, unescorted, likely would not be as magnanimous as the noble, generous, and honorable Aflian people. If upon your next meeting with the Great One you would express a similar attitude it would be greatly appreciated by us. We do like to appreciate our friends.=^=

=^=Please follow our lead ship, Justice, our other two vessels will flank out to protect you.=^= The Justice turned smartly and took off at warp 5. The other two vessels simply waited.

“Well isn’t that just special,” Kelly said tensing and then relaxing back in her seat. “Nash tactically can we outmaneuver and outgun three on one,” she asked her chief tactical officer? Knowing his nature Kelly was sure the man wouldn’t candy coat his opinion. She also knew that the man held off a small armada that was attacking the colony he was assigned to protect. Both made him a bit of a wild card but Kelly would bet on him each and every time.

They hadn’t done a ‘scan’ of the Alfian ships. The power curve of the Alfian vessels was equal to the Atlantis, but the efficiency was much lower. They also had inferior warp drives so there was little doubt that the Atlantis could out run them.

It was fairly clear that the Atlantis also had significantly superior shields, moderately superior beam weapons, it was reasonable to believe they could defeat two Alfian cruisers… but it would be work to defeat three.

“Into the rabbit hole we go. Mr. Nash prepare weapons in case there are more Aflian’s to greet us coming out of warp but don’t look like we are gunning for a fight. Helm engage warp 5,” Kelly ordered letting out a deep breath.

“Lt. SEAI can you tell me anything about the Aflian’s,” she asked? She knew the officer was built by section 31 and god only knew the stuff in SEAI’s head that she was not privy to. Kelly had no idea how long they would be in warp so now was the time to have the crew get thier proverbial ducks in a row while they had the chance.

Captain Kelly Shultz

There was nothing in section 31s records about this sector of space. If there is another way SEAl knows things please e-mail me and we can discuss it off line.

GM

SEAI shrugged before replying, “No records about this sector of space exist. I do have some of the Federation archives downloaded but believe that the ship may have a more complete record than I.”

SEAI (CNS)

=/\=Engineering to Bridge. Repairs and part replication are underway, but we’ve sustained major damage to the EPS that we can’t handle out here. Note that Transporter Rooms 1 & 2 are out of commission, as well as the primary phaser array. My suggestion would be not to pick any fights right now, especially since we’ve also got power issues with the primary computer core that we can’t fix out here.=/\=

=/\=Understood =/\= Kelly said in a cam neutral voice.

=/\=Status up there?=/\= Did she sound a bit stressed? She was doing her best to exude calm in the fray that was engineering, but she was only getting hints of what was going on up on the bridge.

Fell-Drayke, XO

=/\= The Afians are taking us to a station. I’m not thrilled about it but hopefully we can get any parts you need for repairs that we can make on our own. Do what you can down there to get us as functional as possible and then come to the bridge. Captian out =/\= Kelly said into the comm badge.

“Since we don’t have any information about our new found friends I suggest we treat this as a first contact episode. Ian your up,” she said to her yeoman who doubled as the diplomatic officer when the occasion warranted. “Get ready to make us look good and get whatever we need to get back home.”

Captian Kelly Shultz

The trip to Base 5 wasn’t quite uneventful, as ships entered and left the Atlantis’ scanning range. They detected 23 different ships that belonged to at least 4 different races based on design and composition. The majority of which were freighters of differing sizes, but there were several warships of similar advancement or lesser technology with the exception of one, which the detected on final approach to Base 5.

The one ship seemed to have a technology level superior to the Atlantis and her hull deflected sensor beams as a high level. There was no way of even determining if it were a warship without close range and high intensity scanning. An act that might be considered hostile.

=^= Atlantis this is Base Five. Just as an alert, Base Five is an unaligned free trade port. Hostilities within .25 light years of this station is considered an act of war against all races in the quadrant. As newcomers to the sector, you are not authorized to dock, but shuttles can come and go at designated ports. Additionally as a courtesy, the boarding fee is waived, Please register all crew members coming aboard, and welcome. If you has any questions please feel free to ask security officers garbed in blue and gold.=^=

GM

Mardusk looked up. “Blue and gold? Ok, now I’m jealous.” and he sent word to have security teams on duty in the shuttle bay. He also assigned a pair of guards to each shuttle with orders to remain with the vessel as long as it was off the Atlantis.

Mardusk, CoS

OOC: You can take an action… security scan… talk to the Base about laws… sacrifice a goat…

GM

“Well I guess this mean shore leave for a few of the well behaved,” Kelly said to her command crew. Thinking about what the tranmission from the base said Kelly looked over at Madusk.

“You think we can scan that big guy over there,” she said indicating the warship that was appeared to be the biggest kid in the playground right now. They were in strange territory with no hope of a backup. She needed to know what they could be up against. “The base said no hostilities so they won’t shoot here and based on what we find we will know whether or not to avoid them.. right?”

Captain Kelly Shultz

“I can scan whoever you want, Skipper. It’s how they react to that that is up in the air.”

OOC: For clarity sake, the highest tech ship was far from the largest ship. There were larger warships, one that if the ships escorting them in were cruisers, this certainly was a dreadnought.

As the Atlantis came to rest at the designated anchorage, they could see the light shimmering of the blue, purple hull of the high tech ship. It shimmered like a water flowed over a colored titanium hull. There were no disturbances that marred the hull and the closest matching shape was that of a dolphin.

GM

Mardusk, CoS

SEAI rolled her eyes at the display. “Well they certainly make an interesting first impression.”

SEAI (CNS)

“Scan it anyway. If the Rock was right and we are as far from home as the reading state we might need to strap some nitrous oxide to Jacen’s precious engines to give us a boost back home. We also need to know who is going to let us sit at their lunch table and which ones are going to beat us up for our lunch money,” Kelly said in almost a dream lie tone as she stared out the window mesmerized at the sights of the ships. Some were beautifully sleek. Others looked boxy and ungainly but they were all uniquely alien.

“So anyone want to go with me on an impromptu shore leave,” she said looking at her command crew. Someone would have to stay back but they could not sit on the ship all day like a wallflower. This was a space station of 100% pure first contacts. SEAI would definitely be on the list to go mingle with the locals but the rest would be semi up to who was willing and curious enough to go.

Captain Kelly Shultz

“Scanning now, Skipper.” Mardusk replied as he began the scans of the vessel, but passive scans only. While it did it’s thing, he looked at the Captain. “You know if you are going, Ma’am, I am going.” he said flatly.

Mardusk, CoS

“Orions, Mintarans, and humans oh my. At least with you, it should stop anyone from getting frisky,” Kelly said with a smirk. She doubted there was a snowball’s chance in hell that the security chief or the CTO would let her go off galavanting alone so his comment was rather amusing to Kelly. Truth be told she would have requested they come anyway but she liked the initiative and stepping up to the plate. If there was one thing Kelly had learned about her crew it was that her crew knew her, knew their jobs and knew where they were needed. There was no way Mardusk would make such a pronouncement if he didn’t already think through who was taking care of the ship. Kelly hated micromanagers so she decided long ago to trust her crew. So far it always paid off.

“Ian you have the conn,” Kelly said standing up.

The scan drew an immediate response. It took less than two seconds before, The hull of the vessel started dimpling as weapon hard points sprung from a hull that previously had none. Sensors determined that the projectors were a focused anti-matter emitter, which would cast streams of anti-matter like a phaser, but would have the impact and damage capability of a photon torpedo. A snout like projection formed that threw a blueish beam towards the Atlantis.

There were multiple weapons locks and the blueish beam was a highly focused ‘sensor scan’ that was both collecting data and attempting to access the computers.

GM

“Ma’am incoming,” a voice shot out from one of the terminals.

“Sheilds up. On screen,” Kelly ordered watching the beam streak towards her ship. As the impact hit the ship Kelly immediately called out to the engineering chief.

There was no impact from the beam. It was a focused scanning beam.

“Drayke did they damage the ship,” she asked as she stared at the alien vessel that just fired at them.

Captain Kelly Shultz

There was no damage to report, however the ‘beam’ still was attempting to access the computers.

OOC: Just to clarify, the beam is a focused scanner, it had a secondary purpose of accessing the computers, and probably could be used to lock weapons. But it in of itself was not a weapon.

M’Lene strode out onto the bridge and went straight to the science station, relieving the Ensign on duty. “Was it something we said?”she asked as she began to monitor and look for any anomalies.

Lt (jg) M’Lene (CSO)

SEAI hovered over M’Lene, watching her work. “Perhaps it was our scan that provoked them, or perhaps they just feel like being incredibly rude right now.”

SEAI (CNS)

There was only a 1.7 second delay between the Atlantis scanning them and the alien ship scanning the Atlantis…

M’Lene nodded as she looked at the results. “Yep, I’d say that was a pretty logical assumption, Captain, do you want me to stop scanning?” she asked, not sure that it would make a great deal of difference now, the alien ship clearly wasn’t taking to kindly to being peered at. “Or would you like me to increase the scan and see if we can get some more useful intel?” she posed, wondering what kind of response that might provoke.

The Atlantis scanner was being scattered by the reflective nature of the hull of the alien vessel. However, if one increased power the scanning ability would extend beyond the surface of the ship. Which, as mentioned, was festooned with suddenly appearing weapon hard points. The Atlantis could now tell the ship was powering up.

GM

“Maybe and welcome aboard to the hot seat,” Kelly said to her CSO. “Talk to me goose. What are they doing to my ship?”

Captain Kelly Shultz

As of now the anti-virus programming of the computers was keeping the scan from accessing classified information. The non-classified information was able to be uploaded.

Another unclassified ship was now maneuvering, its current course would put itself between the Atlantis and the ‘dolphin’ ship. The cruiser sized ship had polarized their hull but had not activated any weapons.

GM

M’Lene watched as the new ship came towards them. “Looks like he’s bringing his friends along to the party…” she said quietly. “Captain, would you like me to scan the new ship?” she asked tentatively.

Lt M’Lene

The second (unclassified ship) was no where near the tech level of the Dolphin shaped ship. It was, however, larger than dolphin and slightly larger than the Atlantis.
