“Hey,” she shouted loudly. “You three knuckleheads done playing whose ego is bigger. We are here to play golf. Now get your asses on the tee so I can get my 18 holes in before my duty shift. ” Kelly turned and headed to the tee. Spreading her legs to shoulder with apart, she lined up her club to the ball and did the golfers wiggle preparing to swing.

“Save the whose’s balls are bigger for the course because it is not going to matter anyway,” she said letting her voice get quieter as she lined up her ball ad the flag in the distance. “I am going to win this and you all are going to need ice packs and Ian faking my signature for a day off tomorrow anyway.”

As soon as her words ended a large red clock appeared in the sky. A friendly but slightly sinister sounding voice said in a perky tone =/\=May your swing be true. Five....four..=/\= she started a countdown indicating the game was about to begin.

The holodeck doors flung open before the countdown could reach zero and a ball of lavender flew in.

“Am I too late? I tried to get here as quickly as I could!” exclaimed the ball of lavender. As she slowed, the ball of energy morphed into a petite blonde woman dressed in lavender and gray golfing apparel. “I haven’t played in forever but I used to love this at the Academy! I just had to join in when I heard there was a game starting open to everyone, but my shift ran late and then I had to go change and…” her voice trailed off as she stopped to catch her breath again. A few strands of ringlets had escaped her high ponytail and she absentmindedly brushed them off her face. Her face turned into a kilowatt smile that made her green eyes look like emeralds as she finally ended her entrance with, “so, well, hi!”

Without taking his eyes of River, Mardusk said “Reaper, huh? How original. And here folks say Marines have no imagination…” He was about to continue when the lavender ball came flying in. Looking the small (very small, comparatively) blonde woman up and down in an appraising fashion, Mardusk said “At least someone else knows how to dress for formal combat sports.”

Jessica pretended to look intimidated for a beat and then rolled her eyes. “I have concerns about your definition of combat if you think this is a combat sport,” she quipped lightly.

IC: Mardusk cocked his head to the side and said “Lady, do you think I would show up to play actual golf? You read the rules, right?” and he shook his head. “Computer, PaDD with rules for Altered Golf.” and a PaDD materialized in his massive palm. He handed it to the petite blonde woman. On it read the following:

=/\= Rules for Altered Golf =/\=

Each of the 18 holes of golf has a set four-minute playing duration. The ball must be in the hole at the end of the four minutes. If the ball is not in the hole the player will receive a penalty time of three minutes added to their score for each minute they go over the four-minute time frame.

Each player is allowed to tee off before another player retaliates on them. The initial swing must be complete and the ball must leave the tee before another player can steal the other opponent’s ball or interfere with another player’s game in any fashion. If someone retaliates against another player or interferes with the ball before it has left the tee that player will be disqualified.

Retaliation includes hitting a player with a golf club, punching/kicking/or tripping another player, sending another player’s ball off in any direction if it is encountered on the green, throwing objects at another player or using indigenous wildlife to impair another player’s game.

The ball must be played where it lies unless it is in water more than two feet deep or has gone over a cliff. There are no other exceptions to not playing the ball where it lies.

All players must have a partner. After the initial tee off pairs will use the best ball as the only golf ball they are playing with. Partners are able to defend their partners on all swings to move the ball to the hole. All players are able to retaliate against other players while swinging as long as it is not the initial tee off of every hole.

Players are allowed to wear knee or elbow pads if they desire. All players must be in a collared shirt. Tank tops or collarless shirts are not permitted. Jeans and gym shorts are not permitted on the course but any other trouser or shorts are allowed.

The giant Orion then asked “And who are you, by the way? Don’t think we’ve met. I’m Mardusk, Security Chief.”

Jessica giggled as she glanced down at the PaDD. “Oh, I’m familiar with the rules. Clearly, if you think this is a combat sport, you didn’t grow up with five brothers,” she retorted playfully as she tugged on the color of her lavender shirt and tucked the straggling blonde hair behind her ear.

“I’m Dr. Jessica Lemann,” she said, sticking her hand out to shake the Orion’s in the typical human custom. “It’s a pleasure to meet you. I only joined the ship a bit ago so I’m not surprised we haven’t crossed paths.”

Mardusk took her hand in one massive green paw and grinned. “Only child. But mom is a soul-crusher from way back, so it probably evens out.” and he chuckled. “Nice to meet ya, Doc. Welcome.”
