M’Lene sighed as she made her way down the corridor on the way to sickbay. She was cranky, not only because she hated having a physical but she was 20 minutes overdue for her afternoon nap which always made her a bit grumpy.

She plodded into sickbay and found the nearest doctor. “Lt (jg) M’Lene reporting for boarding physical…let’s get this over with,” she added curtly.

Lt (jg) M’Lene (CSO)

The NE she found blinked and opening his mouth started an apologetic reply but was cut short by another non uniformed man limping toward them. “Sure. You can get your boarding physical done. There’s a space a week next Thursday, you can make an appointment in your way out.” He lifted the cane he carried and pointed at the door. The NE looked between them both and with a small nod from the man quickly left to finish what he had been doing.

“You’ll be unable to report for full duty till you’re cleared of course. That won’t be an issue right?”

M’Lene scowled back as her ears pricked up and her tail swished in annoyance. “Listen here hop along, I’m already 20 minutes overdue for my afternoon nap and I still have the joy of meeting with the counsellor. I’m due on the bridge for my first shift tomorrow but by all means if you want to speak to the Captain and explain to her why her new Chief Science Officer is not going to be on duty for a fortnight, please be my guest, I could use the extra nap time…”

Ryley raised his eyebrows at her. hop along? he mouthed looking bemused. “Oh yeah…” he laughed. “Like that’s a threat Whiskers. You wanna go see the counsellor off you go. You wanna tattletale to the skipper again go ahead.”

M’Lene jumped up on the nearest biobed and had a quick stretch, absent mindedly checking the sharpness of her claws. “Or we could just do it now and then we can both get back to our grumpy afternoon?” She offered.

With a nod at her Ryley waited until she was seated, “yeah....you see here’s the thing. These weirdos walking around in teal, Well they’re my weirdos. You don’t get to be grumpy with them or short with them. I’m the only one who gets to be grumpy and short with them.”

“Now. You have decided to sit on the bed which is fine. You look tired. Maybe a nap is a great idea, Fatigue is a hell of a symptom to diagnose and add in the irritability....” he whistled through his teeth. “Well…There are Medical causes such as a thyroid disorders, heart disease or diabetes. Parasites. Lifestyle-related causes alcohol or drugs or lack of regular exercise, stress. Mental health problems. I mean the list is endless.”

“Princess!!” He bellowed and waited for someone or something to arrive. “So with that in mind I can’t possibly let you leave now, you’re a potential health risk to the ship and crew and to yourself. I also can’t possibly sign off on your fitness to report for duty. You’re right let’s get you properly checked out. Shouldn’t take more than 8 or 9 hours. 10 tops.”

He turned to the person who had answered his bellow and said. “I want a full work up. If she gets grumpy give her a mood stabiliser. If she pulls her claws sedate her.” He said and pulled himself up onto the biobed beside them.

“Oh and calling someone with a disability names…real slick. Very kool.” He said sarcasm mingled with amusement in his time.

“Why yes, court jester?” Jessica enquired as she bounded over to the two. She snatched up a tricorder as she passed by one and flipped it open in one smooth move. She was much more typically attired in a Starfleet uniform with a lab coat over it, although her curly hair looked like it was going to stage a coup at any moment. She dangled the open tricorder from two fingers as she gazed innocently at Ryley and queried, “is this tricorder permissible or are we all supposed to use your super secret special one?”

Without entirely waiting for a response, Jessica turned her attention to the Caitian on the biobed and smiled in a friendly manner despite her boss’ surly attitude. “Good afternoon, I’m Doctor Lemann. You’re here for your boarding physical, I assume?”
