Nash nodded as she spoke, “It’s a decent sized ship to get used to for sure. It’s a little bigger than what I was used to, but it’s simple enough and there’s plenty of people.” Her avoidance of his question wasnt unnoticed, but that could be an interesting topic for later on if she had reason to not share it now. He grinned at her as a thought came to him and he took another sip, watching her to see if he could measure her likelyhood of finding it fun. She was bubbly , cute and friendly, easy to talk to and outwardly confident. “It sounds like you’ve been busy since arriving, so instead of talking about work, let’s get to know each other better? What’s your favourite music?”

Jessica was briefly mesmerized by the coin in Nash’s hand, but her attention was quickly taken back by his voice. She listened attentively, playing with a few strands of hair and then tucking them neatly behind her ear. “I love that idea,” she responded, with a large grin. She had no interest in rambling on about Starfleet when she was supposed to be off-duty. She had been spending enough of her off-duty time on Starfleet as it was. “You know, I never really had the opportunity to develop a favorite,” she responded. “I have a large number of siblings and there was never a particularly quiet time to enjoy it… and if there was, there was someone else that wanted their preference known. How about you?” She cocked her head to the side and met his eyes with her jeweled green ones as she waited for his response.

“Mood music,” Nash said with a light laugh before continuing, “I love music, but background music as I’m doing something and it depends on the job. Holodeck simulation of flying through an asteroid field chased by pirates, something like a good rock type beat. Surviving a zombie apocalypse, something more metal maybe. Sitting on the edge of a cliff watching a sunset, something soft and slow.” Nash made sure he made complete eye contact with her as he spoke the last line, turning it into a gentle flirt as his ice blues met her jewel greens.

Jessica flushed lightly again as she murmured, “that sounds wonderful.” She caught herself, blushed even deeper, and continued, “Your, uh, idea makes perfect sense to me,” she stammered a bit, her previous confidence fading just a touch at the gentle flirtation.

“How many brothers and sisters do you have? You the youngest and most loved or the oldest and carry the most expectations?” He raised an eyebrow slightly and bit his lip in thought just for a moment, while he grinned “Youngest, right?”

“How did you guess?” Her confidence and her beaming smile had returned as she giggled at Nash’s question. “I have five older brothers,” she continued, playfully acting up a wince. Long blonde hair fell into her face and her fingers automatically went up to tuck it back behind her ears, lingering there to tug on her earlobe for a second or two. She uncrossed and then crossed her legs again. She wasn’t really nervous, she observed… just a little fidgety in the slowly charging air between her and this surprising companion.

“Just a guess, with a few hints,” he said and took another sip, a small one, as his eyes followed her fingers through her hair then moved back to her but he noticed her movements. Maybe there was an element of nervousness at meeting someone new but he half dismissed it. She was bubbly and friendly and had approached him so shyness wasn’t really a thing with her he decided.

At the mention of family she had fidgeted, a play with her hair which could have been a flirt, something innocent or nerves, the tug on the earlobe which if the psych people were to be believed, could have indicated nerves or a feeling of vulnerability, maybe an outright lie? Then the woman had crossed and uncrossed her legs which was in theory another sign of nervousness or closing off a conversation, or of course something to draw his attention to her legs. Body language was so confusing and contradictory at times but there were enough signs there that the topic of her family might be a sensitive one for him to tread carefully on, so Nash smiled warmly and made sure his attention was on her, and not the room around them. He angled his shoulders more towards her, turning in his seat so his arm was along the bar top and closer to her, palm relaxed on the bar as they spoke. She had his attention, which wasn’t an easy thing to achieve for most people casually and Nash was highly aware of that, even intrigued by it and her and why he had noticed so much about her.

“You have the beautiful smile and the mischievous look in you eyes the youngest tends to have, you mentioned your brothers wanted their preferences to music known,” he grinned at her and sipped his beer before continuing, “the oldest kid would stamp their authority and get their way. I have a younger brother, Sam, happened all the time at home. Especially between brothers.” He paused for a second in wonder, looking to the bartender as he realized that for the first time here he had spoken about someone in his family and at the thought, he tapped a finger absently on the bar top, he hadn’t let anyone else know much about him. His smile widening some, his eyes returned to her. “Favorite place to take a walk? What’s your first thought if someone asked you to walk with them?”
