As her voice trailed off, her eyes narrowed slightly as she decided whether to indulge his attempt at distraction or to push to find out who he actually was. Finally, she decided to let it go for the moment. She slid down off the bar stool and replied with a wicked grin, “I have a one drink maximum with people I don’t know, so how about a walk…”

“I like that idea,” he said, and as she slid off the bar stool he turned with her to follow, his hand still holding hers. “Maybe we’ll pass the holosuites, might be a free one by now. I know of a couple of programs that might be interesting.”

Even with her one drink maximum and having a surprisingly good alcohol tolerance for her size, she felt a little dizzy as her feet hit the floor. What was going on with her?

Nash had come to his feet beside her, and holding her hand he sensed rather than saw Jessica’s slight hesitation when she stood. His free hand slid lightly but supportingly to her back just below her shoulders as if to steady or support her and he stepped forward a little to look down into her eyes. He still held a smile, but also a genuine question to her hesitation. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine,” Jessica responded with a slight amount of terseness. Her features quickly softened in apology, though, and she moved her hand to his arm. “I think I just probably should have had dinner first before having a drink,” she continued with a giggle. Taking a moment to catch her breath, whether from this enjoyable evening or from her imbibition, she tugged lightly on Nash’s hand. “Lead the way, Ethan,” she smirked.

“We might find a place for a bite as we go, you never know where you might end up when you just start walking.” Moving his hand from her back so the could walk together, Nash gave her hand a slight squeeze as he led Jessica from the lounge and out to the corridors.

Behind them the two crewmen Nash had noticed earlier watched them leave and then turned sourly back to their drinks while the bartender, his attention seemingly focused on cleaning a glass followed the pair with his eyes until the doors closed behind them. Then, he put down the glass and moved to where the two had been sitting and picked up the ashtray and empties. His eyes narrowed as he took a pause at the cigar stub still sitting in the astray where Nash had left it. Nash never forgot his cigar, and never cared who was around when he smoked it, including the Captain. The short blond woman with the jewel green eyes must have made more of an impression and and taken far more of Nash’s attention then he was letting on.

Outside, Nash simply chose a direction at random and began to walk while he ran his hand through his dark blond hair. He was keenly aware of her touch and how her hand fit inside his, the softness of her skin as his fingers lay against hers. “So, you’re on a beach with the waves rolling in, wind warm and the day has been perfect so far. What do you have for dinner? Are you a seafood kind of girl or would burgers be in the basket?” Nash grinned at her as he asked, and took a random left turn that came up.
