“They have skiing, sledding, lodges with hot coca and warm cider… there is ice skating and hockey… they even have curling! What else could we want from a winter getaway? On top of that, 5 star reviews and not one mention of any tentacles! You are going to love this baby, and you can even use the Mrs. Bordeaux name here.” Ian said as he looked over at Kelly who sat next to him in the cockpit. Ian was already wearing winter gear, sweater vest with a turtle neck in festive colors. Kelly he knew was looking over the plans closely as he spoke, but he wasn’t worried. This place was in no way like the turquoise mountain. Besides he loved what had become of the pair due to that weird little place.

“Yes, but while our last vacation had the benefit of not only being our first date but also my wedding day humor me for trying to find the fine print,” she said happily but with a serious look as she scanned the brochure enlarging sections as if she were part of the crazy people who believed in Ancient Aliens seeding the galaxy. “The last thing we need is to find out the only way to get off the planet is if your pregnant.” As soon as the words had left her mouth Kelly gave Ian a side glance. It was not like they had never spoken about this topic. There had been a few conversations here and there about if Ian had wanted them and why Kelly did not have kids years of marriage. These conversations never though had been if she had wanted kids with Ian or how fast Ian wanted to start a family. The ring on her finger now made those conversations more personal. “Well it seems to be pretty,” she said abruptly changing the topic and setting the PaDD down.

“Hey look I did my research, it’s going to be fine. Madame Ellen runs this place and she just wants to give couples beautiful winter retreats.

“This is going to be our first Christmas love, and I just wanted it to be memorable… I mean… you didn’t sign the papers and I didn’t turn them in. I know we never planned to get married, but we also made a choice to stay married. Our first… it needs to be amazing my love.” he said as he leaned over and kissed her cheek before moving back into the cabin. “I am going to grab some eggnog would you like some?” he asked her, the runabout had Christmas themed lights as music played. It was clear Ian was going all out for the spirit with her. He had to have this be flawless.

“Yes extra rum and oh make sure it is in one of those tacky moose mugs,” she said with a laugh. As he returned with the mug she made sure her fingers overlapped his so that he could not immediately pull away as he handed it to her. “You know I don’t need perfect. I just need you right,” she asked him staring into his eyes. “Even if this five-star resort turned out to be a Motel 6 where they left the light on for us I would be happy. I had a marriage where I had everything I could ever want or need and it fell apart because I did not have the one thing I did want and need. I am not going to make that mistake again Mr. Bordeaux.” Putting one leg up on the piloting chair across from her and then putting the other leg up on the same chair, Kelly effectively trapped him where he stood. “You’re trapped or more specifically it’s a trap,” Kelly said the last three words in a decidedly deeper voice imitating one of the favorite scenes of their favorite movie franchise. “Try to get out of it.” Her grin was huge and Ian could see that right now, the perfect Christmas he had planned was getting off to a great start.

“Hey, even when I make a mistake it turns out great. Remember that love, you maybe a mistake but you are indeed great.” he said as he gave her a wink. Leaning he kissed her cheek as he slid up next to her.

Taking a deep breath Kelly looked out the window at the stars that were pinpoints and not streaks since they had dropped out of warp. Holding the cup up to her lips she couldn’t help but see the ring on her finger. When she had married Ric, Kelly knew everything about that man. When Kelly married Ian she didn’t even know his middle name; however, for all the things she didn’t know about him, she and Ian fit together like a crazy puzzle with twisty edges that when you stood back you could make out the image perfectly. There was no doubt in her mind that she and Ian should be married. What she doubted was his answers to a million questions in her mind that she had no idea how he would answer. Maybe this trip she would spend some time talking to him about topics she wondered his answer for.

“Ian,” she drew out his name slowly in a questioning intonation.

Just as Kelly opened her mouth to pose the first of a series of questions tumbling about in her mind, a perky woman about 30 years old with short dark hair spoke to them through the comm screen.

=/\=Shuttle Stark you have clearance to land. Your approach vector has been sent to your navigational systems. Sit back and enjoy the ride. We will take it from here, =/\= the perky voice said with a big grin.

The lurch made Ian pause as he was about to answer Kelly before he looked back out. Looking over to her he smiled softly. “Yessss?” he said, drawing out his response to her. He wasn’t 100% certain what she was getting at but he wanted to not ignore her. He just stared as he waiting for her to continue. “Did I do something wrong already? We haven’t even stepped foot on the planet.” he said, his voice sounding almost annoyed but in a mocking way.

Kelly’s mouth opened and her eyes widened some as she looked out the viewscreen at the approaching city. All the questions she wanted to pepper him disappeared with a single blink of her eyes. There would be time to ask him the things on her mind. According to the legal system of the Federation, they had until death did them part. Kelly didn’t plan to kill him within the first year of marriage so they had a bit of time. Instead, she did what she had been trained to in the academy: prioritize.

The surface was gorgeous. In place of the tropical scenery of the Turquoise, Mountain Retreat was the stark white and icy blues of the White Lotus Skiing and Snowboard Lodge of Teseric III. The large crystalline buildings shimmered against the snow-capped mountain peaks. The arctic city was stunning. Only one thing was more attention-grabbing than the pristine cityscape. As the shuttle zipped along between the buildings of the smallish city Kelly licked her lips. Her mouth has gone dry as the passed a massive billboard on the way to the landing pad. It was a twenty story image of a man with dark ebony skin and hair coifed into an elaborate swirl of braids and buns. He wore a smile that was twice as large as it should be as he cuddled up to what appeared to be a cane or microphone.

“Ian,” she drew his name out for the second time in a slow drawl. “Is that,” Kelly began to ask her question as the bump of the landing gear hit the concrete landing pad and the door to the shuttle began to descend.

“Well…” Ian said, his eyes open wide. This was highly suspect, he promised a perfect holiday and right now that image didn’t make him feel like it was going to be anything but. The last time he saw this man things had gone somewhat wrong, yet right at the same time. He couldn’t help but feel like he made a mistake twice on vacation.

“Iiiiiiiiiiiiiaaaaaan Kellllllllllly,” Opal’s voice shot through the cab like a barrage of laser fire. “Hello hello hello how is the Captian of the love boat with her swanky swabby hubby lovey,” he drawled out loud and proud on his way into the cabin towards the cockpit where Kelly and Ian were sitting.

“I am a Federation officer and not the captain of a cruise ship,” Kelly pointed out firmly already dreading the holocast of this landing on Admiral Perkin’s desk. It was not as if her first command had been without issue or positive notes. Still, other captain’s could be harsh one on one when not required to be polite.

“Wait, let’s hear the man out. He maybe onto something… maybe I can get a plaque, and a theme song… something swanky and fun… I don’t know…” Ian began to hum to himself softly as he bobbed his head to an imaginary beat.

“Love, exciting and new
Come Aboard. We’re expecting you.
And Love, life’s sweetest reward.
Let it flow, it floats back to you. “

The words began to form from Ian, softly an quietly almost under his breath as he caught himself looking over at Kelly. “What? Too much? You’re no fun.” he said as he couldn’t help but smirk at her as he winked softly at her.

“Pzzzzzz,” Opal waved a hand silencing Kelly and turning her attention to Ian. He was the easier of the two to deal with. “Ian my man. You been working out. Practicing all those moves you learned in the extra-curricular yoga classes keeping your body as firm as,” Opal drew out the sentence in a breathy voice allowing his listeners to imagine all sorts of things that weren’t going on in the cabin.

“Those were not moves, they were merely exercises in futility, fun ones granted… but that was not yoga. That’s not how this works, that’s not how any of this works.” Ian said, thinking back to the adventure. It may have solidified the two as a couple but he couldn’t for one second claim anything that did had been up to any codes, even Ferengi had to have better standards.

“Hey,” Kelly snapped looking at Opal run a long finger down Ian’s arms tracing his bicep as he talked. “Stop that,” she slapped Opal’s finger like an irate mother wanting a kid to drop a cookie.

“Ohh feisty one. You are getting more interesting and tonight’s show will be hot hot hot,” Opal snapped turning and strutting around the small cabin as if it were a runway. “Check back at eight when we see the curvaceous Kelly and enamored Ian take on the Klingon companions in a game of wits, strength and bravery. Stay tuned,” Opal said as if leaving the audience on the edge of a cliffhanger instead of a holowave progam.

“Oh oh oh you were magical.” “Perfect.” “Stunning.” Opal’s trio of assistant’s reigned flattery upon the host. “Best show ever.” “Ratings are going to be the highest in months.”

Kelly took a deep breath and held it looking at Ian. “Quiet nights by a fireplace. Me…you…snuggling in a blanket,” she threw back the promises Ian had given her to get her off the Atlantis on back out on vacation with him. “A real and true honeymoon,” she articulated the words clearly and slowly.

“I mean… I can always set this place on fire if I need to… if it’s fire you want I can find a way.” Ian said as he looked around as if trying to decide the best place to begin the blaze.

“Pfff who needs a honeymoon when every night is as if it were your first,” Opal waved off Kelly’s concerns now that they were no longer on the air.

“I do,” Kelly almost squawked.

“Can you please also stay out of this, how do you people run a business… do you drug the people… is there a hypnotist?” Ian asked the man, finding him less and less amusing as he sat there. This was not what he wanted for Kelly and him, and he was growing irksome by the second.

“No, you need to beat Toqa and Vixis unless it won’t bother you to lose to them as you did at the bonding challenge at the Turquois Mountain Lodge,” Opal threw down the bait.

Captain Kelly Shultz

“Listen, I don’t say this often… but I will punch you unless you speak some god damn sense here. What the bloody hell is Toqa and Vixis you prepubescent worm?”
