As they cleared security, M’Lene caught up with Steward. “Well, they certainly like their rules here don’t they?” she asked quietly with a grin. She quickly checked the way to the arboretum and got a padd out ready to make note of anything pertinent. “So Ensign, do you have much experience in botany?” she asked curiously as they came to the entrance of the arboretum and she flipped out her tricorder.

The arboretum was on the outer ring of the cylindrical space station, so it was exposed to the ‘natural’ star light. Obviously that wasn’t sufficient to keep most plants alive so the section was supported by a copious amount of additional lights, some of which radiated heat. There weren’t any crowds in here just a few groups and individuals walking about, lying, kissing or any other number of ‘normal’ recreational activities. There were also the periodic security officer patrolling. It was difficult to know for certain, but the overwhelming number of station personnel they had met so far were security in nature, most carried a baton, side arm, and scanner, occasionally one also carried an assault rifle.

M’Lene whistled at the sight of the arboretum, it wasn’t quite what she had expected. As she slowly made her way into the room, she noted the various couples engaged in amorous activities and nudged Steward. “Looks like this is the place to be…” she whispered with a chuckle. She wondered if she could coax Ryley here somehow…perhaps there was something in the air…she mused as she began to run some basic botanical scans on her tricorder to see if there was anything of note.

The basics of plants seemed to be the same here as it was elsewhere in the universe. She was unable to locate a species that she was familiar with or that closely resembled an Alpha quadrant variety.

M’Lene peered at a nearby plant and turned to Steward. “Might as well start somewhere, let’s start cataloging these then…” she said as she pulled out a padd and started making some notes. “Why don’t you start over by the large tree on that ridge?” she pointed as she opened her bag and gave him some specimen bags to collect samples.

Kier’s hands had been nervously fiddling with his tricorder. He looked around and swallowed a bit. New spaces were a challenge for him. He was also greatly unnerved by observing public displays of affection. As he surveyed his surroundings he inadvertently ignored the CSO’s first question about botony, only popping back to reality with the slight nudge. “Wha…sorry, I was just…this is my first ship based arboretum…” Catching up he opened his own tricorder as he began to scan. Then, still oblivious to that first question, he ended up answering it anyway. “Not that I have a ton of experience with arboreta, anyway. My botany experience is limited to some courses during my first year at the academy…”

Ensign Steward, Scientist

M’Lene leant in and whispered to him. “Don’t worry, the tricorder does most of the work anyway, just aim and scan,” she said with a reassuring grin. She passed him a case for specimens. “If you find anything noteworthy, collect a sample and give me a call,” she said as she started to walk away. She turned back and noticed he looked a little overwhelmed. Smiling warmly she went back across to him. “Actually, why don’t we catalogue together on this one?” she suggested.

OOC: Not a 100% certain what you want me to do here. Please be a little more specific on what you want or email me and we can discuss your options.
