“Did you tell Dr. Ryley about the disorientation? You seem like an experienced gymnast, so I wouldn’t expect that to be a common thing,” she asked. “I don’t remember it coming up when you first came into Sickbay, but we were pretty busy getting your injury stabilized and then I was called away by Commander Nash.” With the mention of Nash’s name, her cheeks turned slightly pink and her eyes took on a brief sparkle. But, as quickly as that had come on, it disappeared as she made a conscious effort not to think about the CTO who she had traipsed around the beach with. Besides, she was annoyed with him anyway for his Sickbay antics.

M’Lene grinned as she saw a little flicker on the doctor’s face at the mention of her friend. Rumours were always rife on board a starship but she got the feeling they were possibly more than friends. She mentally filed it to bring up once they’d had a couple of drinks as she thought about Jess’ question and sheepishly shook her head. “No, I didn’t say anything, I didn’t really think of it at the time, I figured I was just tired…why, do you think it could be serious?” she asked as a concerned look came across her face. She felt her pulse quicken as she thought back and tried to remember exactly what had happened.

Lt (jg) M’Lene (CSO)

Jessica noted the change in M’Lene’s breathing and heart rate visually and shook her head quickly. Way to put a kibosh on the evening, she thought, chaistising herself.

“Anything serious would have come up on the scans we did in Sickbay, but it’d probably be worth another visit to double-check,” she commented evenly and soothingly. A wicked smile came over her face as she continued following another large gulp of her wine, “besides, it seemed like you might like to stop by and see Dr. Ryley again…” Her voice trailed off as she raised an eyebrow at M’Lene.

M’Lene breathed a sigh of relief as she took another sip of wine and gave a cheeky smile at the mention of Ryley. “He certainly is an interesting character…” she said, the smile spreading as she kicked off her shoes and popped her feet up on the sofa, hoping Jess wouldn’t mind. “So come on then, what’s his deal? I keep trying to talk to him but he just kind of blanks me? What are my chances of getting him out on a date?” She asked with a mischievous giggle.

Lt (jg) M’Lene (CSO)

“I’m really enjoying having him as my superior,” Jessica commented, another sizable sip of wine being swallowed as punctuation. She was going to need a refill soon if she kept up at this rate, but she couldn’t help herself. It was just so nice to finally let loose after the stress of reporting for duty for the first time and then her evening with whom she eventually discovered to be the CTO. “I think we get along well. I never could have survived with a stuffy Starfleet type… no offense if you are one,” she continued. “But, I don’t really know that much about him… hopefully once this mission is complete, we can have some medical staff bonding time.” She added a wink there. “He, uh, certainly knows you’re interested. I have a new appreciation for his bum after your sedated observations.” She giggled lightly, hoping that M’Lene wouldn’t take offense to her comments. She didn’t have many defenses but what little she had was starting to tumble as she grew warm from the wine.

M’Lene laughed out loud as her wine nearly sloshed over the edge of the glass. She quickly set it down on the table and put her hand to her mouth. “Please tell me I didn’t say that out loud?! I thought I’d dreamt that!” she exclaimed as she put her head in her hands and giggled uncontrollably, it seems the wine was starting to get to her as well. “Oh God, what else did I say?” she asked with a bit of trepidation as she put her hand on Jess’ arm. Tears of laughter were already forming in her eyes as she waited to see what else she had blurted out under sedation.

Jessica thought back for a moment and realized that her memory was altered by Nash’s unexpected arrival, her face blushing even more easily this time as she thought about him. Her mind began to wander to their second “date” that had occurred the evening before and she flushed even deeper, taking another sip of her wine and swirling it around in her mouth as she remembered, finally swallowing it as M’Lene’s form caught her attention again. She looked shocked briefly as she came out of her thoughts and then mumbled, “oh, you know, the usual… how delicious he was, how much you love him…” She started to giggle and then a look of remembrance came over her face.

“Oh, I forgot that I told Ensign Keene that she could join us… let me summon her. You’ll love her!”

Sam stepped out of the turbolift and followed the corridor to Jessica’s quarters. Growing up with mostly her brothers, Ferengi, and various other scoundrels for company, she’d had a late introduction to the concept of ‘girls night’ at the hands of her Academy roommate. Those occasions had generally involved Kate getting them into trouble and Sam getting them out again but had been enjoyable to the point that Sam had missed them since graduation, not really hitting it off with any of the female officers at her last posting.

After her transfer to the Atlantis, she’d mostly spent her off duty hours tinkering with a few projects in a corner of one of the cargo bays and propping up the bar in ten forward. The results of one of those projects clanked against her hip as she walked, carried over her shoulder in a black hold-all.

She pushed the door chime and stepped inside, “Sorry I’m late, did I miss all the fun??”

While Jessica was starting to feel the warm effects of her wine consumption, she was still mostly with it when she ordered the computer to allow Keene to enter. Getting to her feet in a 90% steady manner, she made her way over to the cabinet to fetch another glass and held it up to Keene, pointing at the wine bottle with a questioning look on her face to see if the ensign wanted to partake with them.

“We’re just getting started,” she commented with a grin.

“Great!” Sam grinned back. She hung up the slightly oversized and battered leather jacket she’d been wearing over her plain vest top and pants and joined the others in the room.

“I brought along this for you guys to try if you’re getting bored of the wine and fancy trying something a bit ‘different’”

She unzipped the hold-all she was carrying and pulled out a largish metal canister that both the medic and scientist recognised as the type usually used to store hazardous biological materials. The sides were decorated with several warning labels including ‘flammable’ and ‘corrosive’, and the top was sealed with a numeric keypad.

“Just a little something I whipped up.... if the chief asks it’s cleaning solvent ‘k?” She started to punch the keypad buttons to open the canister then paused and glanced about.

“You haven’t got any naked flames in here have you? No candles or anything?”

Sam Keene - Engineering

Jessica laughed at Keene’s antics. “No flames here!” she replied with a grin. “Are you going to give us any clues as to your recipe or is this a choose your own adventure kind of thing?” she fired back, laughing already as the wine had lowered some of her boundaries.
