M’Lene tapped a few buttons and ordered a coffee for herself. As she picked up the steaming cup she turned and grinned at him. “Astrophysics, well more specifically stellar astrophysics, in particular transient astronomics…” she said as she slurped her coffee. “And yourself?” She asked as she perched on the edge of her desk.

OOC: Quick question - the thread says Ensign Woolley but your character is Ensign Steward - I’m guessing one is incorrect unless you have multiple personalities? :) there’s also a main sim thread for Steward :)

OOC: It’s pretty funny that you mention that as when I logged in this morning I realized my error. Really knocking it out of the park on this one.

“Biology. Neurobiology to be specific. Though I don’t believe there are enough of me to constitute a whole field, I take a particular interest in microneurobiology. At the academy I sort of fell in love with some algae that was discovered in the beta quadrant that had a fully formed nervous system. The brain is fascinating enough on its own. A brain at that scale…” he trailed off, seemingly relaxing into his surroundings a bit. Though his high strung personality never truly faded into comfort.

Ensign Steward, Scientist

M’Lene nodded with interest as he spoke, she loved seeing how passionate other scientists were, it wasn’t really a field that one fell in to, it was usually more of a calling. “Excellent, we don’t currently have a neurobiologist on the team, I’m sure you will be able to make some valuable contributions to the department Ensign,” she smiled warmly as she looked over his file. “So, you’re first posting out of the academy?” she asked. “Have you spent much time in the field?” she added with an air of curiosity.

Lt (jg) M’Lene (CSO)

“Well, technically…” he said. “After I graduated from the academy my first posting was to a science lab at the academy. That was my full time posting, but I requested some additional time to complete my doctorate. So post-doctoral experience is about three years. Seven, though, in terms of research and actual lab work.” This explanation, unlike his earlier equivocations seemed oddly more confident. Kier was pretty terrible at interacting with people, another reason Starfleet felt comfortable giving him a bit more time in San Francisco, but when it came to the lab he excelled.

Ensign Steward, Scientist

M’Lene grinned and nodded, “that’s great to hear Ensign, it sounds like you can teach me a few things in the lab, in fact, let me show you the lab…” she added and indicated for him to follow her out into the main lab. She spoke as she wandered around the room, giving Steward a time to get a look at the equipment and layout. “We’re not precious about lab space or anything here so you’re free to use any of the stations as you see fit. If you have any side projects or any research you want to work on, please do feel free as long as they don’t interfere with your duties and you’re not going to blow up the ship or release some toxic agent into the ventilation system!” she chuckled then winced as she remembered a somewhat close call with an experiment when she was an Ensign that nearly blew a hole in the bulkhead.

As they completed their little tour, M’Lene leant against a nearby and sipped her now luke warm coffee and gave a grimace. “So Ensign, do you have any questions?” she asked.
