As they cleared security, M’Lene caught up with Steward. “Well, they certainly like their rules here don’t they?” she asked quietly with a grin. She quickly checked the way to the arboretum and got a padd out ready to make note of anything pertinent. “So Ensign, do you have much experience in botany?” she asked curiously as they came to the entrance of the arboretum and she flipped out her tricorder.

The arboretum was on the outer ring of the cylindrical space station, so it was exposed to the ‘natural’ star light. Obviously that wasn’t sufficient to keep most plants alive so the section was supported by a copious amount of additional lights, some of which radiated heat. There weren’t any crowds in here just a few groups and individuals walking about, lying, kissing or any other number of ‘normal’ recreational activities. There were also the periodic security officer patrolling. It was difficult to know for certain, but the overwhelming number of station personnel they had met so far were security in nature, most carried a baton, side arm, and scanner, occasionally one also carried an assault rifle.

M’Lene whistled at the sight of the arboretum, it wasn’t quite what she had expected. As she slowly made her way into the room, she noted the various couples engaged in amorous activities and nudged Steward. “Looks like this is the place to be…” she whispered with a chuckle. She wondered if she could coax Ryley here somehow…perhaps there was something in the air…she mused as she began to run some basic botanical scans on her tricorder to see if there was anything of note.

Lt (jg) M’Lene (CSO)

The basics of plants seemed to be the same here as it was elsewhere in the universe. She was unable to locate a species that she was familiar with or that closely resembled an Alpha quadrant variety.

M’Lene peered at a nearby plant and turned to Steward. “Might as well start somewhere, let’s start cataloging these then…” she said as she pulled out a padd and started making some notes. “Why don’t you start over by the large tree on that ridge?” she pointed as she opened her bag and gave him some specimen bags to collect samples.

Kier’s hands had been nervously fiddling with his tricorder. He looked around and swallowed a bit. New spaces were a challenge for him. He was also greatly unnerved by observing public displays of affection. As he surveyed his surroundings he inadvertently ignored the CSO’s first question about botony, only popping back to reality with the slight nudge. “Wha…sorry, I was just…this is my first ship based arboretum…” Catching up he opened his own tricorder as he began to scan. Then, still oblivious to that first question, he ended up answering it anyway. “Not that I have a ton of experience with arboreta, anyway. My botany experience is limited to some courses during my first year at the academy…”

Ensign Steward, Scientist

M’Lene leant in and whispered to him. “Don’t worry, the tricorder does most of the work anyway, just aim and scan,” she said with a reassuring grin. She passed him a case for specimens. “If you find anything noteworthy, collect a sample and give me a call,” she said as she started to walk away. She turned back and noticed he looked a little overwhelmed. Smiling warmly she went back across to him. “Actually, why don’t we catalogue together on this one?” she suggested.

OOC: Not a 100% certain what you want me to do here. Please be a little more specific on what you want or email me and we can discuss your options.

Luke

A young male of a species that was humanoid, and resembled the mostly human appearing majority of the space station. In his hand he carried pretty orange flowers with an amber circle or beads about the stems where he held it. He approached Steward with a smile, hunching down slightly to appear smaller and more subservient. “Young Sir, the flower gardens are a place for love.” He started proffering the flowers he held, they smelled pleasant enough. “We encourage both romance and…” He tilted his ead with a smile, “stamina with these orchards of passion.” He tried to press the flowers into the ensigns hands.

Kier had opened his tricorder and was just beginning to get his science on after a somewhat rocky start. Interestingly, Kier, who was flustered by nearly every social interaction he encountered, seemed oddly resolute as the young male approached him. One hand still occupied with his tricorder, he placed the other palm up in refusal of the flowers.

“Oh, thank you but no....I don’t do…romance…or passion,” he said firmly but in a friendly tone.

Ensign Steward, Scientist

The young man pressed in close to the Ensign but was blocked by the firm outpressed hand.

M’Lene chuckled at her young companion and held out her hand. “Now Ensign, we wouldn’t want to offend…” she smiled as she held her open hand out to the newcomer. “Besides which, they could have some medical application we don’t know about?” she offered, although she did wonder if perhaps some in Ryley’s coffee might mellow him out a bit. “Can you tell us anything else about the plants here?” she asked curiously.

Lt (jg) M’Lene (CSO)

“Yes, young mistress.. the flowers scent are know to encourage the blood flow to the skin creating heightened sensations.” The person nodded with multiple head bobs. He waved the scented buds before his face and then before hers.

“The flowers are free, but need to be accepted with open hands.” He made a quick gesture holding his hand akimbo for a moment while somehow not dropping the long stem, wrapped flora. “If I may?” It seemed that the ritual included having the flowers being stroked over a person’s arms.

M’Lene smiled warmly as she extended her arms in submission. Whilst it was probably against protocol, M’Lene was always up for trying a new experiment. She nodded to Steward’s tricorder to indicate he should take some readings. “Was does it feel like?” she asked curiously as she waited.

Lt (jg) M’Lene (CSO)

The young man rubbed the flower on her arms and across her sides. He bruised the petals against her with some firm pressure… for the most part it was light contact, but on occasion he rubbed her a little more aggressively (at no part it was more firm than a hug). The blooms secreted a mild oil and a slightly more powerful scent. After a moment she felt warm and the smell was more than a little pleasant. Any ‘romantic’ or ‘sexual’ improvements were probably mostly a placebo effect beyond an increase of blood flow… which Stewards tricorder would certainly detect.

M’Lene smiled as the delicate aroma filled her keenly attuned feline nostrils and she felt the oil seep into her fur.

“You are wise and beautiful, mistress. The men,” He nodded to Steward, “If not him, will be rushing to have your attention.” He smiled and nodded as he backed away. “I can’t stand too close of the flowers will entrance me as well.” He turned and scurried away.

A mischievous grin appeared on M’Lene’s lips as she considered going for a wander to see if she could find Ryley but she knew that wouldn’t really be appropriate whilst she was on duty. Instead she plucked a handful of the flowers and popped them in her bag to run a little science experiment later with them. She turned to Steward with a smile. “Well, not exactly what I had in mind, you be sure and let me know if you have any amorous feelings Ensign, and be warned, I am armed…” she chuckled with a quick flash of claws in case the Ensign was suddenly overcome. “Have you found anything else of interest?” she asked him curiously.

Lt(jg) M’Lene (CSO)

That triggered something in her. She wasn’t armed… she didn’t even have her tricorder. She knew she had it not a minute ago… what happened in the last minute that might have cause her to lose both her tricorder and phaser.
