Ryley cursed under his breath and looked up from the microscope he was working over. The computer read outs showed the same conclusion for his hypothesis. Failure. He scowled and limped across the office to his chair, pounding the palm of his hand onto the desk. “Damn!” He said to one one in particular in the empty space and then brought his hand up to his face. Pulling his glasses off he tossed them across the desk and rubbed his knuckles into his eyes. It was no use, the synthetically damaged tissue wouldn’t take to the treatment to prove anything, no if he wanted this experiment to work he needed actual data from someone with actual heart disease. Or at least someone with a high risk factor, no easy feat in a world where federation medicine has managed to get rid of pretty much most of those sorts of things. In fact, he thought as he lowered his hand to pick up the crew medical files PaDD and skimmed it, the at risk could be the best…
After reviewing the files again for what felt like the millionth time he groaned in frustration as the answer presented itself so clearly before him. There were a few crew on board that fit his description but his best bet, the one that would give him everything he needed and more due to the fact that as was the nature of their diet, heart disease was a common cause of natural death for this species.
It was for that reason that Ryley found himself standing awkwardly some twenty minutes later outside the potential experimental salvations quarters. He sighed deeply, closed his eyes and rubbed the bridge of his nose before pressing the chime and leaning in his cane as he waited awkwardly.
M’Lene yawned as she looked up from the reports she was trawling through with curiosity. She hadn’t been expecting anyone round, at least not that she could remember. She put the PaDD to one side and quickly threw a blanket over the casually strewn heap of yesterday’s clothes on the end of the sofa before hastily zipping up her jacket. “Come in?” she replied as she noticed a breakfast bowl still on the table from that morning. M’Lene was extremely organised and efficient when she was in the lab…not so much when she was at home. As she quickly whisked the bowl out of sight, she smoothed her fur as she heard the door open. “I’m sorry, I’m not really dressed for company…” she added as she turned to face the last person she had expected to see. Perhaps her offer of friendship had piqued Ryley’s curiosity after all?
As she gestured for him to come in she raised a quizzical eyebrow. “Well, this is an unexpected surprise doctor, are you here for business or pleasure?” she asked with a wink.
