“Come on I got the bartender to get us a remote area in the back with some very nice rum and even some Bordeaux… and some whiskey, vodka… I may have gone over board I am … ” he wanted to admit he was just as nervous but stopped as he took a deep breath as he let the sight of her fill him with joy. Offering his hand to her he just wanted to be alone for once. “Come on buttercup.” he said, that was always her most intimate name. He called lots of people hon or doll, but there was only ever one buttercup in his life and that was Lexi.

Lexi stumbled over her words feeling like she was sixteen years old and on her first date. This was Chris. Christopher Robins, the man she had spent most of her adult life in some form yet at this moment Alexandra Garfield was acting as if she had never seen him before in her life. So much had changed in the past six years since the graduated from the academy. The use of the name buttercup proved that. Before it made her smile and sometimes send him a flirty wink. Tonight it made her feel a hot rush and dizzy. Like it was a name whispered in the darkness where two people were using few if any words to increase the intensity of an encounter. Lexi didn’t say anything but took his hand. Staring into his eyes, Lexi felt her heart race. Chris always said the right things at exactly the right times. He was everything she wanted and everything she needed. Lexi had to find a way to let him know this. She could not go another few years living on a promise or dream of what could be.

This look he was holding was very much the same they had in the caves so long ago. He wanted to take her then, make her his but so much blocked him in his mind. Noah was a good guy, he couldn’t live with himself being the homewrecker. On top of that everything be built was Lexi was so perfect, he was terrified then to have it all crashing down. Right now though that fear didn’t seem the be as strong, it already crashed down. All that was left to was to build things back up.

Lieutenant Christopher “Love Machine” Robins

Closing her fingers around his, Lexi let Chris lead her to the private area the bartender had arranged. It was beautiful and part of her had wished the four of them reserved this place for dinner instead of inside the restaurant. The room was actually a veranda that extended out from the restaurant proper. Thick, six-foot-tall boronia shrubs covered in yellow, pink, and purple flowers created a wall of greenery that isolated the people occupying the space. The pergola roof was covered in thick bougainvillea vines that allowed moon and starlight to peek though the magenta blossoms. A crystal chandelier lit the room so that the light shining down sparked on the hard surfaces like sprays of diamonds. The music from the other room was absent yet the rolling sounds of the surf on the beach created a sense you could step off the stone tiles and instantly dip your toes into the aquamarine waters Surfer’s Paradise was famous for. Lexi held her breath for a second wondering if Chris knew what this room looked like before he reserved it. Stepping fully into the room, Lexi walked to the edge and placed her hands on the marble railing. The room was ground level so the railing was just for effect but the effect did achieve what was intended. It made the people standing here think they were miles above everything and floating in the air. Out in the distance as if sent by divine intervention was not her north star but the southern cross

This was not able to be seen from her home in Israel. The Southern Cross was Chris’ constellation however once he told her that it had hung over her home eons ago. Based on stellar nomenclature, the Southern Cross last appeared over Jerusalem around the time that Christ was crucified however due to precession in the ensuing centuries it had made it’s home over Chris’ beloved Sydney. Lexi closed her eyes taking in the faint smell of salty air mixed with a hint of the honeyed vanilla from the flowers.

Chris came up following behind her, letting him taking in the scenes. He knew it was supposed to have a near majestic feeling from their description but didn’t feel like this did it justice. Walking slowly he came up behind Lexi as she kept her hands on the railing. He pondered for a moment, how far to they go… what should he say. He knew deep down he wanted this woman more than the air he breathed.

‘What are you doing… this ended all so badly last time. You expect it to end better this time? She didn’t tell you about Noah coming and broke your heart. Does it matter now that they are apart?’ came the dark voice in his head as he took a deep breath before shaking the thought away. He had waited six years just to be in the same room with Lexi Garfield, and he was not about to let that slip once more.

What are you waiting for, she asked silently to herself knowing Chris was behind her. It might have been endorphins on overdrive, but it felt like he was just at the threshold of touching her. Lexi’s arms broke out in goosebumps and a small shiver seemed to run down her spine. It was not the type of shiver one would see. If Chris did notice Lexi would wave it off as just a chill from the night air. Her mouth was dry. She tried not to fidget holding her body still as if frozen in place. The anticipation of his touch created a slow ache that spread from her neck, down her shoulders, through her spine and out to her extremities. Lexi opened her mouth slightly so that her breathing did not have a heady panting sound as she breathed through her nose only. Please hold me, she silently begged with her eyes locked on the four brightly shining stars off in the heavens.

Slowly and gingerly he slid behind as he let his hands wrap around her waist as he pulled her in close as he let their bodies slowly meld into one. He had never tried to do a move like this on her before, they had cuddled and help each other close so many times but this always seemed to have a bit of intimacy beyond friends for him. Holding her close he couldn’t help but close his eyes as he took a deep breath as he leaned in close to her ear, the scent of his cologne become stronger with it’s leather and earthy tones he often wore.

Lexi’s breathing came in deep gasps as she closed her eyes leaning back into his body. If his arms weren’t around her body, she might have had trouble standing. The old adage about love making one weak in the knees turned out to have some fact behind it. She had to press into his body for balance. Chris reacted as she hoped he might. His arms were tight around her waist holding Lexi securely against him. The grip was strong enough to instill the notion he would never let her fall. He would be there to hold her up and help brace her against whatever life threw at her. Wrapping her right arm over his, Lexi increased the pressure on Chris’ hand indicating she wanted more. Her left hand moved up finding the back of his neck within easy reach. Ian said Chris was nervous. He had initiated the moment so Lexi had to give him some indication she wanted it to continue. Her fingertips moved from the back of his head to the based of his hairline. There she lightly dragged her fingernails across the surface. The sensation felt ticklish and sensual at the same time. From here she could help him if Chris stopped the series of actions she had planned in her head. Every dirty and loving thought Lexi had stored up came rushing out as he spoke.

“I love you…” was all he said as he whispered it in her ear for her and her alone to her. No one else matter as he spoke, nothing else mattered in the universe to him than letting her know he loved her.

Alexandra Garfield had waited years to have those words uttered to her. Twisting in his arms, Lexi positioned her body to face him. Chris let her rotate in his arm but never broke the ring about her that he created. Over the past six years, Lexi toyed with her response to the statement just expressed. Now all of them sounded rehearsed like it was lines from a play. Her eyes darted between Chris’ like she was searching for the sincerity of his proclamation past words strung together. Her chest felt like she had run a marathon.

As he spoke shifted her body just enough as he leaned forward just enough to get his lips to hers as he let everything melt away in his mind as he tasted her for the first time. Slowly and sensually he let himself forget the past, none of it mattered as he kissed deeper as he inhaled her scent and locked in on this moment.

Lieutenant Christopher Robins

Lexi responded to his kiss by pressing her body hard into his. Her lips slowly parted allowing him entry into her body. A soft moan escaped as she reached her hands up locking them behind his head. “I love you,” she softly blurted out when they paused briefly to inhale a large gulp of air. Her sentence was far breathier when uttered out loud. “I’m sorry,” she continued to add a few words or phrases as Chris hungrily sought to make the kiss more meaningful more erotic. Lexi could not keep track of where his hands explored or stopped: She had no desire to. Holding a thought was hard. All her daydreams about this second blurred into a seductive dance taking her where she needed to be just achingly slow. Lexi could feel herself losing control as she ran her nails down his back encouraging the increase of pressure on her lips and the intensity of his kiss to her. Using every ounce of will power she broke the kiss by tilting her face down slightly. Lexi had to tell him how she felt. They might have reciprocated the sentiment but Lexi wanted to say the words looking at him so that Chris knew she meant the promise behind it.

Lt. Lexi Garfield

“That doesn’t matter now love…” he said softly as he positioned himself to take his strong arms as he placed them just above her inner thigh as he lifted carefully as he let her be carried up into his arms. Taking that moment he leaned in once more kissing her deeper than before, he didn’t need to speak he felt he needed to show as he began to move them to the corner of the private room which held couches and arm chairs for lounging.

Lexi wanted to say something. She wanted to just be held. The mixed-up thoughts running through her head were the manifestation of her emotions taking over from logic. None of this made sense. She had never been a couple with Chris yet she was acting like he was a sailor on shore leave she hadn’t seen in months. Even if they stopped now, things would be irrevocably changed. Lexi didn’t care though at this moment. All she wanted was to dominate Chris’ attention. The truth was Lexi had dreamt of being the center of Chris’ world for a long time. Tonight this dream was becoming a reality.

Gently as he held her tight he backed down onto the couch keeping her on top of him, her legs bending inward as she was able to straddle him on top as he placed his hand behind her head and pulled her in as his tongue began to search for hers as he felt time and space seemingly slip away in this moment. Small moans escaped him as he let there be the smallest of separation between them as he let his forehead press firmly against hers as he looked into her eyes, those deep brown eyes as he felt such content and joy right then and there.

Lexi lifted her head slightly to look at Chris. She could feel Chris’ hunger and need with every touch but also a pensiveness in the way his hands traced the delicate curves of her body. The explanation was simple. Chris was restraining himself to make the interaction last. Lexi understood this desire. So many times she had imaged what the moment would be like: slow and erotic or hedonsitic. This is what was causing the ache in her body and his. The path to release all the carnal tension bottled up inside them. If it were up to Lexi, she would not hold back. Diving into the very act that would no longer let them be defined as friends and satiate their desires. She would also feel weird after like she was one of the nameless faceless women that had occupied his bed since she had known him. Chris seemed to instinctively know this as if she verbally spoke the words. Pushing up enough so that Lexi could look into his eyes, the expression he returned seemed to say he was going to find the pace that got them where they needed to be only slow enough that she arrived there with no doubts. Her hair dangled down around his face gently tickling his cheek. Pulling it over her shoulder with one hand she relaxed onto Chris’ body, Lexi gave herself over to him.

Slowly he began to kiss from this vantage down her neck and into her collarbone, each kiss slowly and sensual as his hands found more and more of her to explore as he let his passion and desire for the woman before him engulf into an inferno. “I love you..” he said once more in between kisses, he needed her to hear it again, she needed to know it was her and only her.

The sound of his words caused her back to arch slightly opening up her neck for further exploration. The words were said a million times before but never to her. Never in a moment like this. A deep satiated moan erupted long and slow from her bady matching the rhythm of his lips on her neck. The moment seemed to paralye her in place. Lexi wouldn’t move or focus on anything but Chris finding ways to make her his.

“I never said that to any woman… ever…” he paused for only the briefest moment as he looked back into her eyes as he let that statement punctuate the moment. It was true Chris was often seen as a player, but I love you was never in his vocabulary for any of those women.

Lieutenant Christopher Robins

Slowly directing her gaze downward her eyes met his. The universe seemed to stop in that second. No environmental sounds could be heard save the beating of his heart and the sound of their breathing. “Because it was always meant for me,” she responded as if she had never been surer of a statement ever. It was then Lexi shifted the course of activities to something more carnal. Up to now, they could have walked away keeping everything as it had been six years ago. As she let her hand trail down his leg, Lexi changed the rules. Chris needed to know she wanted this. Lexi wanted to show Chris that she was his unequivocally and without question. She did not care about the future. There would be time to talk about that later. Lexi just wanted to relish the here and now in his arms.

Lt. Lexi Robins.

Lying on the couch, Lexi rested her head on his chest listening to the sound of his heartbeat and breathing slowly returning to normal. She loved curling up with him on the couch. The soft breeze of the ocean sweeping over them like a warm blanket. Glancing up she noticed Chris relaxed with his eyes closed. Any other time she would close her eyes and nap with him; however, there were a lot of other things she wanted to do and only six hours before the sun broke the horizon and he warped out of her life for an unknown time. Acting as if she was going to hug him, Lexi slowly dragged her fingers down the length of his side. In the past, this sensation snapped most men out of the semi-coma state they were enjoying because it tickled like heck. She had no idea if it would be the same with Chris but she wanted nothing more than to make sure he did not roll over and fall asleep as was often the case with men.

“Hey hey hey…” Chris said with a small smirk as he pulled her closer to his body and looked down at her with a loving gaze. “Sit still” he said as he kissed the tip of her nose. The kiss was soft and delicate and merely a stopping point along the journey, not the destination. This destination did have a few rest stops along the way however.

“Then kiss me like you miss me before I fly off to my cornner of the galaxy,” Lexi teased in a soft tone. “Unless you have another idea of something to do?”

The moment was something Chris too had thought of, and wanted more of her but found the moment was not going to be one that ended as he thought as a small clanking on the table behind them was heard and a soft clearing of throat as Chris rapidly sat up to see the waiter staring at the couple.

Lexi’s sat up too and began to rub her eye. “Yep I think you got that dust out of my eye,” she announced loudly as if this would explain away the situation te waiter walked in on.

“Your dessert… cannoli and bottle of Australian whiskey as requested....” came the reply as the man could be heard tsking as he began to make his way out of the private room.

Turning to face Chris she hit him hard on the side of his shoulder giving him a quizzical look. “You did not lock the door? Who doesn’t lock the door? I mean yeah it’s not so romantic to say ‘hey Lex hold that thought. I gotta lock the door,’ “ she said trying to imitate him. Lexi wasn’t mad. Just more shocked and embarrassed. Putting her hands over her face she busted out laughing. “All things considered,” she finally removed them from her face and placed them over her tummy, “at least he didn’t see me with a deer in the headlights look or a clear shot of your mighty hammer,” she shrugged it off. There was no reason to be mad at Chris. It wasn’t like it was his fault but it did slow the mood from god take me now to maybe we should take a breath and talk.

Lt Alexandra Garfield science

“Jesus Lex, it’s not like you were all aware yourself here.” he said teasingly as he looked around, perhaps this wasn’t the best place to start everything but he couldn’t deny this was more than he could imagine in one glorious moment. “Come on… we can head to your room… they gave you that ocean view right?” he said as he helped her up offering his hand to her. It was going to be a night they never forgot, and he didn’t want to waste one second not having his Lexi in his life.

Lieutenant Christopher Robins

“Yes but,” Lexi looked at the table as she took Chris’ hand. The cannoli looked amazing. The pastry crust was the perfect shade of whitish tan indicating they would be crisp and flaky when you bit into it. They were also stuffed with a large dollop of cream filling that was dotted with chocolate chips. The thin glaze of chocolate that was drizzled over them made Lexi want to slip out of her dress and into her fat pants. “Why go to a room with a window view when we have this,” she made a grand sweeping gesture of the vista before them. “Besides we could talk and eat and figure out how things are going to work like me chomping down on you, you sweet sweet amazing little dessert tomorrow.” She was rambling at this point but with just how hot and steamy they were not even five minutes ago, how could Lexi tell Chris she would rather take a snack break then head up to the room with him.

Lt. Lexi Garfield

“Lex you act like you have never eaten a cannoli, we have one every single time we have gone… well almost anywhere. I mean… don’t you think everything we just confessed is far more important… come on buttercup.” he said with a slight head nod as he gripped onto her hand and pulled her from the table as he pulled her close as he enjoyed being able to have this intimacy in the open. So much was unspoken in the dark corners of their lives, this was just what the pair needed. “I will grab this though.” as he grabbed the Sullivan’s Cove French Oak bottle, blue label calling out to him him as he cradled it into his free arm like it was his own child.

Lieutenant Christopher Robins

“Buh buh but we,” she said as he pulled her from the room with that lazy half-grin which had always made her heart skip a beat. She might have protested more but his fingers were firmly entwined in hers as they left the room. Casting a glance back over her shoulder like a mother concerned for a child she was leaving, Lexi had an open mouth posture not sure what to say. How could she say that cannoli ranked over the ten years they had wasted not living in the moment? Sure stopping for ten minutes to shovel the dessert down her throat like she was without food for three days wouldn’t kill them. It would, however, shift the momentum of the moment to happy relaxed instead of steamy seductive. As she fully exited the room, Lexi debated on telling Chris that cannoli was actually a tried and true Italian aphrodisiac. The problem was she had never had an intimate encounter that involved snack time. If this was their first experience it was also going to set a precedent. Flashing six months in the future, Lexi did not want Chris to come to bed in a bathrobe with a bag of Dorritos under one arm and say through a mouthful of chips, ‘babe you bring cannoli so how is this different?’

As the elevator closed, she let go of the cannoli dream and focused on the man next to her. He was so handsome. Everything about him was perfect: his humor, his body, his personality. Well, everything but his memory. “Christopher,” she said leaning back against the glass wall of the elevator, “just so you know. We never have had cannoli.”

“Of course we have had them buttercup, I mean it’s why I had them brought tonight it’s our thing… next to Recces cups we eat cannoli’s.” Chris replied with a quizzical look as he thought about what she said.

“Um no,” she shook her head. “We have ordered it. We have tried to eat it but uh uh. There was the time to took me to Vito Provolone’s and that girl showed up so I left. There was the time you got me some because I was having a bad day and you gave them to Felicia to smooth over you called her Felicity which was her twin sister. Or the time we ran late to get back by curfew and dropped them hopping the fence. There was that time we ordered them and that fat cadet ate them when we played pool because he got his table mixed up. The time the waiter tripped on his shoelace when your parents took us out for dinner and they were the last ones in the restaurant that night. Or the time,” she took a breath ready to continue to point out all the times she hadn’t received the dessert which somehow Chris now believed she had eaten.

Lt. Lexi Garfield

“Yes but… I mean I usually got one to go in most of those event, you know wrap it on a napkin stick it in your coat and enjoy it. You never stuck one in a purse or something? How could you not have taking any to go in all those times? We ordered them might as well eat them.” he replied wondering how the devil she could have never had one in all the years they had been friends. Every single event seemed to have one. “You have to be teasing me… you had one right?” he said as he thought back to all the times thinking there had to at least be one time she stuffed one somewhere.

“No,” she laughed. “I am not homeless. I just don’t wrap crap up and stick it in my coat or purse,” Lexi let out a full laugh.

“Well… we can go back and grab one if they mean that much love… or…” he said softly as he placed his hand on the glass behind her as he leaned in just close enough to her ear that his lips could almost tickle the her skin as he whispered soft and low, “We can go to your room and see what else we can learn about each other.” he said as he looked down at her with a full seductive gaze, wanting to know which she really preferred, him or the pastry.

Lieutenant Christopher Robins

Lexi wanted to come up with something clever but Chris was standing too close to her. So close she could feel his breath on her neck when he spoke. For all their years together he had never paired that look with this proximity. Jumping up she wrapped her legs around his waist and started to kiss him passionately. “You will owe me a cannoli,” she said in his ear and raked her teeth across his earlobe.

“Yes ma’am” Chris said with a playful tone as he gripped tightly around her as he dropped the bottle, the loud clank from it hitting the floor the only sound to emanate as he held her closely.

They were not on a ship nor in a hotel anyone at the conference was staying at who might know them. Lexi didn’t think about or worry if Chris was ready for her to climb him like there was a mouse on the floor. All she wanted was to be in his arms. “God how many more floors,” she said between kissing him. “Are there small men with pulleys getting us there?” The trip going down to the restaurant did not seem to take as much time as this was to get back to her room.

Lt. Lexi Garfield

“Computer pause lift and lock down.” he said as he looked behind her, the glass surrounding them left them awfully exposed but Chris didn’t care, all he knew was he needed his Lexi. Setting the bottle down, he moved towards her.

Lieutenant Christopher Robins

Seeing that look on his face, Lexi knew exactly where he was going. Chris was a force of nature and she was about to be swept up in it. “Oh, baby. I am not sure this is the play,” she started to have trouble speaking as she felt his hands move to the sides of her head and press into the glass walls, “sis,” her breath caught in her throat as he kissed her. His touch there would have been enough to send her easily back into the mood yet this approach was doing far more. “Chris, baby,” she drew out her words full of affection as her hands found him. Running her fingers through her hair, Lexi’s arousal rate stated to redline.

“Everyone can see,” she moaned leaning her head to the right. At this hour it probably wasn’t going to be small children or the elderly with heart conditions but the three-sixty panoramic view allowed everyone to see them from any vantage point.

Lexi seemed to be sweeter than any other girl, if he was honest he suspected it was just his love but he didn’t care as he kept up kissing her searching for the moment he knew would begin to force her to curl her toes. Chris knew where to start on any woman, but there was a part of him that loved finding the right way to get the puzzle to click into place. It wasn’t rocket science, but there was some trial and error as you felt the woman’s body twists and move with each sensation.

Lexi began to get that fuzzy feeling in her head debating on if she truly cared whether the universe saw her physical reactions to what she felt in her heart. She didn’t know anyone here and Sydney was not a city he had ever visited. They had waited ten years for this moment. Throwing caution to the wind, Lexi whispered. “Chris I want you to,” just as a loud ding erupted in the small space.

“Seriously,” the voice called out incredulously. “You both do have a room here right?” She and Chris may have only heard this person once, but it was again in a compromising position. “Or you are Andorian and there are four of you,” the waiter asked from behind his silver dining cart. So far this couple was proving to be as big a handful as well as the other one in the room three floors higher by the name Bordeaux, who ordered the tray he was delivering. “The front desk sent me with a PaDD and the room service tray because the elevator is reading out of order. It’s not out of order. You hit the stop button. Didn’t you?” His tone was accusatory like a parent demanding a child spit out the candy squirreled away in their mouth that they were going to so vehemently denied eating.

“You know we generally do not have this much excitement from midnight to six am,” he sounded rather exasperated. “You are staying only one night right?”

Hiding her face in the crook of his neck, Lexi didn’t try to even explain what was going on here. She would let Chris do that.

Lt. Lexi Garfield

“She spilled a lot of whiskey, she was already a little tipsy, you know alcoholics… I will just be on our way…” Chris said as he moved past the waiter smirking as he held his Lexi tight, not for one second letting go of her like she was the most precious gem in all the world.
