“She spilled a lot of whiskey, she was already a little tipsy, you know alcoholics… I will just be on our way…” Chris said as he moved past the waiter smirking as he lifted her into his arms as he held his Lexi tight, not for one second letting go of her like she was the most precious gem in all the world.

The walks wasn’t far and Lexi wasn’t overly heavy as he got her to her door as he paused looking at her as he he kept her in his arms. “Do… you have the key?” he asked as he gently let her down, giving her a chance to search for the key.

Lexi’s room as they entered he realized was identical to his, but he heard she had a few of the beach which was something he wanted to be able to see out of his room. He loved surfing when he visited her and loved she got to share the few he saw great many summers when he went to visit his uncle in this part of the continent.

“You know, I don’t think I have ever seen a more beautiful sight.” said as he turned to face her, smiling softly as he took her hand in his, “And the view from your window is amazing as well.” he said softly as he kissed her deeply once more. It was like an intoxicating fire to be with her, he knew he belonged her by her side.

Lexi felt her skin break out in goosebumps as he spoke. The previous two intimate encounters had been spontaneous that evening. Emotions ran high so they reacted in an equally fast pace. This encounter was starting much slower. “Unzip me,” she said seductively pulling her long dark hair to the side as she spun to give Chris access to her dress. The feeling of his fingertips on her bare skin made her shudder. The clicks of the fastener sounded almost erotic as they slowly separated the material exposing the middle and then lower section of her back.

A twinge of nervousness filled her. For all their years together, he had never seen anything less that a bikini and due to the rules at the Academy, and even those experiences were limited. She had seen Chris without a shirt hundreds of times at intramural matches and informal sporting events yet never with the intention to do what they both were wanting. Tonight nothing would be held back or unseen.

Spinning to face him, Lexi held the top half of her dress up as she slowly slid one strap off her arm and then the other.

“God you are beautiful,” he said as he took a sharp inhale, every part of her drove him wild as he took his shirt and pulled it over his head as he flung it across the room. Everything stopped for a moment as Chris brushed a lose strand of hair behind her ear. The truth was there was a carnal wish they both wanted but he needed to make sure of one thing. “Before we go further love, this… this is what you want isn’t it? I want to be certain in your heart you are all in.” he asked knowing they couldn’t back track once they began.

Her eyes searched his not knowing the exact words to reply to Chris. As a kid in college she wanted to explore this side of him. She had dreamt of sharing his bed. As an adult she fantasized over and over yet the answer to his question in either time would still be the same. “I want this yes but I can’t stop thinking about tomorrow. Being with you tonight is going to change us forever and I,” the words caught in her throat. Part of Lexi felt sick inside. Fantasizing about a single night was great in theory but not having anything after, maybe ever, she didn’t know if she could make that commitment to him.

Reaching up she traced his hair along his brow gently as if creating a memory she would have to hold on to forever. Chris was not the type to settle down, maybe not even with her. He was young and vivacious. He joked about not being about to show up a reunions because half the men there would know he had slept with their wives. Lexi wasn’t sure that if they one had this one night, she could ever meet him again as Mrs. Someone else.

“I fell in love with you the first month I met you. I have been in love with you since the Northstar Cafe. That night broke me. God, I want to be with you but I am going to need more than just this one night. I want you tonight, tomorrow and somehow every day after that.” Lexi stopped talking and let the implication of her words linger in the air until she couldn’t stand the silence. She hadn’t gotten to say this six years ago but neither had he.

Lexi felt her heart racing. Whatever had happened in the past was past. She was talking about the future. Instead of stumbling over words, she rose on her toes pressing her lips to his in a long, slow, deep kiss. It was the type of kiss one gave when saying goodbye for the last time or the type that said I will be yours forever. All Lex cared about was being in his arms.

“I love you, and yes I want you more than anything.” he said as he leaned in and kissed her deeply. His movements weren’t hurried but slow and methodical. “I don’t want this moment to ever end, or us… not for one second.”

She felt herself breathing through her slightly parted lips eager to experience every thought she had ever imagined about Christopher Robins. As usual, he did not disappoint her. Time seemed to bleed into a dream-like state where reality and fantasy clashed. She had never been with a man like Chris. His usual laid back and gregarious personality had been replaced with a man who focused on every detail of their action. Lexi at times could not think straight. His hands seemed to be everywhere and nowhere at once. His lips were on her lips then they were whispering honey promises of a future together, only to return making Lexi’s mind reel and become foggy. Just as in life, their movements were in perfect synchronization, predicting how the other would react with each touch, caress, and kiss.

Collapsing back sometime later, Lexi looked at Chris and smiled. “Chris that was,” she left the ending off because no words could describe what she was feeling. “Hold me,” she asked pulling his arms around her tightly she let her heart and breathing try to normalize. Her skin felt on fire like every touch from his body was still electric. Every so often her body would shake as a ripple of passion continued to run through her. Weakness and exhaustion replaced the erotic copula. His arms created a sense of love and safety. Nuzzling her head deeper into the crook of his arm, Lexi let every thought and question leave her mind. Right now her world was right. In his arms, she felt safe and loved and that was all Alexandra Garfield ever wanted. The dawn would bring reality in along with bright sunlight and the soft breeze sweeping away the dream they created. Lexi closed her eyes savoring the reality of the dimly lit room and the warmth that was only coming from their bodies.

Morning came and Chris felt himself drifting awake from his sleep tonic state as he looked over to smile at the sight of Lexi still next to him. Kissing the top of her forehead as she slept he edged ever so closer to the edge of the bed as he reached for the pen and paper that laid on the night stand. Writing a small note he smiled as he laid it where he had laid next to her as he left out the door. The note once read said the following.

“Lexi,

Didn’t want to wake you, was hungry and wanted to get us breakfast, maybe even a cannoli.
I will be back shortly, I can’t wait for our lives to start a new with you in it my love. Sleep well
and know I will be back before you know it.

Love, Chris”

“Okay you think this is a good idea? Really? One night just… ask someone to marry you… that’s not normal.” exclaimed Ian as he sat across from his best friend as he shook his head at the very notion.

“Look, I was going to do this six years ago, I have loved her for ten solid years and she loves me… why shouldn’t I?” Chris asked as he looked down at the ring he held, it was a gorgeous silver engagement ring with a center stone that matched the pendant he gave her so long ago.

“Look, you two have never done things normal and I know my sudden trist with Kelly seems like I might be a bit hypocritical but we are still taking the time… I didn’t put a ring on her cause one night of passion doesn’t equal a lifetime choice. I am in love with her… but there is a rhyme and reason to how and when you should do these things” Ian countered as he popped one of the grapes in his mouth and felt like things were bound to implode once again if someone didn’t help his friend here.

“Look… I love you man… your life is just different from me. I want you and Kelly to decide what is right for you but… my gut says this is right for Lexi and I… it was right six years ago if Noah hadn’t....” said as he paused as he looked past Ian at the crowd behind him.

“What?” asked Ian as he looked behind trying to see what stopped Chris dead in his tracks, it was then that he noticed the image. Noah, he forgot that he was going to be here as well. He wished he had warned Chris he knew this but so much had happened in 72 hours before the conference he had such little time. “Look, he’s a science officer too not strange is it?” Ian asked as he looked back at Chris.

“No… but we are in a city twenty minutes away from the conference in a hotel resort that wasn’t one that the conference used… what is he doing here of all places?” Chris said as he grabbed the large bag he had with the food, placing the ring inside the big as he put it under his arm as he stood up. Noah seemed to be leaving the dinning area heading to the lobby and the lifts.

“I… will be right back.” Chris stated, with a small tremor seeming to be in his voice as he began to make his way back to the room he had shared with Lexi.

Five Minutes Later

Chris came by the door, slowly he entered hearing voices coming from the room, both of them he knew as he braced himself as he listened in.
