It passed a month after the goo incident and a week when they were lost on that damn planet that almost killed him and the entire away team. At that time, Kai was going to be promoted at the christening of the new Atlantis the next month - surely he wasn’t aware of those sudden changes but when this event occurred, Kai was still Ensign. He was casually wondering how he could save more lives developing a more efficient emergency transmission relè that was more portable and even better than those they had on Cheeseball III. And so he was in engineering that time, studying sub-space frequencies, theta and chronotonics waves and radiations and analyzing Faster-Than-Warp technology that once saved a known ship from being abandoned totally by Starfleet.
“EUREKA!” He promptly shouted in the whole halls “I just need- I just need to advise the Captain… maybe I can make it before the next away mission will begin.” He thought.
And so he rushed beforehand to meet the Captain and certainly he didn’t knew that on that day, frequent malfunctions to the vital support was causing some discomfort all around the ship.

Arriving on deck 1, Kai felt some pretty painful cold temperatures which made him almost freeze when he entered the bridge.
“Wow, what the hell is happening here?” He asked around the bridge as he crossed the lower decking “We have some issues with vital support and environmental groupings.” Replied a yellow shirted NE “good luck then.” And swiftly as a prey, he walked with pace toward the captain’s room.
As soon as he reached the grey-ish doors, Kai rang the bell and waited impatiently as he was literally being frozen like an ice-stick looking around trying to figure out probable causes of the broken systems.

Instead, inside the Captain’s room there was a damn hot, maybe 308/313 Kelvins, almost like in the mid of the desert.

“Come,” Kelly said hearing the chimes on the door. Her tone was grumbled and as Kai entered he would see Kelly standing next to the control panel for climate control. In her hand she held a screwdriver. Blowing into the panel hard she let out a groan. “Okay so there is no dust or dirt in the control panel and the darn thing has power. Step two,” she talked to herself trying to fix the issue herself. Lifting the screwdriver she decided to start step two.

“Trillion-dollar ship with perfect a state of the art climate control center and I would give anything to have a damn radiator in here I could fix with a hammer,” Kelly growled waiting for the person who just answered to speak.

“B-Bad moment, Captain? Maybe I can help.” Kai said as he took an inter-phasic modulator and a diagnostic tricorder “Well, uh, I am here for a proposal, Captain. A proposal that may change the future of Starfleet rescue missions.”

“I would settle for some heat,” Kelly dusted off her hands looking at her science chief. “So what you got for me,” she took her attention off the faulty unit and looked at Kai.

The Ensign walked toward the Access Panel and looked over the circuitry in the wall.

“So I have here a PaDD if you want to give a look while I try to- to fix this.” He said breathing heavily for the intense heat.

“Giving the PaDD a fast once over she gave Kai a look letting him know she was extremely interested in the conversation and encouraging him to continue.

“Modulated Tetrionich-Chronotonic Faster-than-warp emergency comm relè. It is lighter and faster than any other relè we have on any ship. It can pass easily most of the force fields and interferences for a total range of 25 Light Years with immediate responses. It does not have delays and the best thing is that it is light. No heavy things to carry on the shoulder, just this little back-pack alike box. Well it would be awesome to have one, right?” He asked “but it has some cons. It does not have a good power saving and indeed it needs a battery change every two days. And, to be honest, if the Tetrionich and Chronotonic signal generator is not well set, it can just explode and harm everyone in a 100 meters radius. It is like a time bomb that can literally warp time and space. So that’s why I a testing facility and a team to assist me into this… endeavor, Ma’am.”

“You mean it goes boom every two days,” she raised an eyebrow. “And you are testing it on my ship…a time bomb,” she said slowly. “Normally I would shut this down but the engineering on it seems sound except for the power supply issue. Have you talked to Drayke,” she asked looking back down at the PaDD.

“I don’t ask to test it here on the ship, maybe a shuttle might be the best to ensure the crew safety.” Kai said as he twisted some others nodes and chips “perhaps we ain’t getting it right and it will just work fine without exploding.”

Kai wasn’t surely the merry man that wanted to perhaps built a destruction weapon, but if his plan was slightly realizable it could he the next-era of Starfleet and indeed he wanted to show his Captain of what meat he was made of “ah jeez. We have some power nodes that exploded. It may have damaged the environmental system.”

“So you are the one that caused this,” she twirled a finger at the console. Clasping her hands on her desk, Kelly looked at Kai concerned. “Drayke is going to kill you if you are telling me you might have broken his ship....you know that right. I mean I love the guy but the chief loves this ship more than anyone else on it. I am pretty sure he would go down with the ship instead of me if the situation deemed it.”

“Oh no! It was not me, ma’am. Luckily the project is still on its development phase (it is still on the paper) and to be honest I have had problems into science down there. Pretty much we have snow and rain.” He giggled “But, yeah, it was not me or the team. Maybe it is just some sort of common problem. I’ve noticed that this ship is pretty old and had no general maintenance since the last dry-dock.” Kai affirmed.

“Anyway,” he finally got working the Captain’s room environmental system “Nice. What’s your reply, Captain? Can may I take a shuttle while I ask Drayke some help?” He stood up as he laid down the Interphasic-tool and the tricorder “I promise to return before 8P.M. With the shuttle still intact and the hull sprinkling of clean.” He smiled and dried some of his sweat while the temp and room environment got to normal.

Temporarily still Ensign (Lieutenant Jr. grade) Kai O. Kingstone - CSO
