Her heart raced, watching with horror as the patient she’d never seen before stood screaming, the light flashing like a weird SOS of the blade of knife in his hand. The screaming, everyone was screaming for Walker to stop. Where was security? She looked around, but they were gone, why was everyone gone? She moved, pushing her way through the crowd, sending those able for help. And then she was in front of him. He was gone, somewhere else. His body was there, but she was not Revna anymore. She needed to take the knife, but didn’t know how, he was screaming at her, obscenities and cures. And then the light flashed off the blade again. She tried to scream but there was no air…

She didn’t wake with a start, her body didn’t have the ability to do so. There wasn’t enough oxygen in her system for anything to move quickly. The room seemed dark, her heart racing, but lungs unable to keep pace. But she slept with the lights on now. Too many times she woke with not enough air her vision going fuzzy, so now the lights were on. Reason came along with mild panic. She reached for the box with the hypo in it. She almost dropped it from numb fingers, fighting for what seemed like minutes until the box opened. She fumbled the hypo out of the box, unsure of what dosage it was set too and unable to make her fingers work to check it. She pressed the nodule against her neck and hit the button, hearing the faint hiss.

What seemed like minutes passed and nothing improved. She reached for the comm button on her bedside table, but only found her combadge. She pulled it towards her and out of habit it clipped to her clothes. The built in bio scanners reading her life signs for the emergency they were and alerting sickbay. She tapped the badge, =^=Edman to sickbay…” her voice very low and it sounded more like a bad connection, “med.....cal....e..mer…gen=^=

Danica was sitting in medical reading over her text books for both advancement in her field and in rank when the low comm came thru. She frowned, but muscle memory had her reaching for the comm as her fingers danced on the console to locate the voice, though the name was familiar to her. =^=This is Medical. I’m coming to you now.=^=

She stood up fast enough that the PaDD with her texts on it slid from the table to thud on the carpet as she grabbed the nearest medkit and slammed the comm on her chest. =^=Transporter Room 1, emergency transport to Lieutenant Edman’s quarters!=^=

A moment later, she appeared in Revna’s living area. Seeing the light in the bedroom on, she swiftly went in and saw the woman in distress. “Revna!” She felt the panic rise but her experience kicked in. It only took a moment to get an oxygen mask on the Councilor. It was then she took in the rest of her and started vitals. “Councilor…. can you hear me? It’s Danica… I’m right here. You’re gonna be ok.” She was kneeling by the woman now, compassion and a soft smile on her face.

Revna was struggling to breathe and wasn’t too concerned about answering the comm. She was just glad to hear a response. Runa was going to kill her, and she might get D’Vash to help her. She closed her eyes, it helped calm her own panic. If her eyes were closed that was the reason her vision was going dark and not the lack of oxygen. Revna knew what was wrong, the doctors just hadn’t come to the same conclusion she had, yet. Cpt Jameson had warned her this was a strong possibility would happen. She’d even mentioned it to Nash when they’d talked a few nights before. She tried to breath deeply, but that was a physical incapability at the moment.

Revna heard Danica enter and the sudden panic in her voice as she took in Revna’s appearance. She tried to respond, to calm the woman, but it only made things worse. Revna you’ve really got to stop trying to save everyone. That’s how you ended up in this mess, she berated herself internally. She breathed as the mask went on. She struggled for several moments as the air forced it’s way into her lungs that couldn’t quite take the amount of air being fed into her.

Danica would see the hypo on the floor where Revna had attempted to give herself the combination of sedative, muscle relaxer, and oxygen deprivation cocktail the med staff had given her. It was set for a slightly more than medium dosage. And the mark where she’d put it to her neck was only half there. A scan would show that the dosage in her system was less than half what had been programmed. She’d missed applying the hypo correctly.

Now that she was in her element, the voice Revna heard would be calm and soothing. “I’ve got ya, hun. Easy now. “In shifting position by the need, Danica’s knee bumped the hypo. Frowning, she reset it and Rev would feel the cool of the tip before heading the hiss as the dose hit home this time.

Not wanting her patient to see the frown when she opened her eyes, Danica smiled once more. “Give it a couple seconds, it should be kicking in. I’m right here.”

Revna didn’t waste the effort on nodding, just trying to take those slow shallow breaths that she had learned to live with. She tapped her fingers on the bed, flexing them trying to get feeling back in them. She’d been fine when went to bed, what had happened? The stress making her breath to fast and forcing her to go back to just breathing.

Keeping her voice calm, she tapped her badge, =^=Doc, we’ve got a medical emergency with Officer Edman. Please meet us in medical.=^=

Lauren back from the desk where she was reviewing patient charts and making notes on the current cases in sickbay. She loved the quiet of the graveyard shift. It also afforded her comm calls with Rand. Years ago on the Chimera, it was hourly face-to-face chats as he roamed the halls in security rounds but they had both grown up and been promoted in their positions. At this hour it was often drunken mishaps from a crew that had spent too much time in the casino or bar or someone trying to take a personal day off their ship using a slip from sickbay. Much like Risa, the size of the USS Atlantis made it a floating city that never slept. Hearing the name, however, sent Lauren’s mind into a more specific train of thought. =/\= Understood. Her vitals?=/\=. The question would help Lauren plan for what was coming into medical. Revna had a highly complex medical history. Lauren immediately pulled up her file and began to review the data.

“Ok, Now you just relax and let that kick in. I’m gonna take you to medical but I want you to open your eyes, first. Can you do that for me?” She ran the scanner over the prone woman to be sure she was stable enough to transport.

Revna heard her call for the doctor. For one very heartbreaking moment Revna wished she was back on Centurion. Not that the doctors here weren’t the top of their fields, but she was scared and desperately wanted people she knew, doctors she knew, that had done these types of treatments and surgeries before. But the moment passed and she blinked her eyes open in the harsh light and looked at Danica. The dark ring around her vision was receding and some of the pain was easing as well.

“Computer, lights to twenty percent. There you are.” The lights immediately dimmed. She took the woman’s hand and smiled. “Ok, I’m going to transport you to sickbay. I want you aware so you don’t panic, all right? Squeeze my hand if you understand. If you don’t squeeze, we’ll take you down the manually.”

By now Danica was glancing down at the constant refreshing stats. She wanted her oxygen level to stabilize in a proper level, and her heartrate as well.

The tricorder would show that Revna’s cortisol levels were very elevated creating a spike in her adrenaline levels. Her heart rate was still elevated, but decreasing slightly with the sedative in her system. She was forcing slow breaths despite the rapid heart rate. And her breathing was deeper but that was only relative to what it had been just minutes before. Revna’s lungs wouldn’t allow for truly deep breaths, her blood oxygen was better, but her fingers and toes were still cold, but not totally numb anymore. She was still flexing her fingers trying to encourage the blood to flow faster. She flexed her fingers around Danica’s hand not really squeezing. She was starting to feel dizzy from the rush of oxygen entering her starving system.
