She leaned down and kissed him, and there was no less fire, no less passion in it for the night they had spent together. After several long moments, Runa pulled back slightly. “What does reality look like now?”
Runa

D’vash leaned back and looked into her eyes. “Now, we get dressed, walk out that door and spend the day doing our jobs. You spend the day with your students with a satisfied smile on your face. I, on the other hand, try to keep my mind on what I need to do..”

Her eyes widened and she grinned, “Are you admitting I distract you?” She placed on hand against his right cheek and kissed the other. “That thought will distract me all day.”

His serious face turned to a grin. “You, meet with Revna for lunch and tell her how completely satisfied you are, because I KNOW you two tell each other everything. Then you thank her for leaving us. . . .and thank her for me too. Then, we get together and . . . talk about how our day was. If that’s okay with you?”

Oh yeah Revna was going to know. Runa wouldn’t even have to tell her. Knowing her luck Revna was sitting in Runa’s quarters waiting for her with that knowing look she always had. “I suppose I should thank her, she even left the mead,” Runa’s eyes danced but she flushed a little. She smiled softly, “Yeah, that’s okay with me.” Runa slipped off the bed, dreading putting on the heavy ski clothes. “Computer time?” “THE TIME IS 0525.” Well she had time to go back to her quarters and change at least. It would be hard explaining why she was wearing a ski outfit to children that played 20 questions better than an android.

“5:25? That’s it? Hell, you’ve still got a couple of hours before school starts. What is that? 0800?” D’vash pulled the blankets back to reveal his naked self, clearly an invitation for Runa to return to the bed. “We can do this quickly this time, and I promise to get you to school on time. . . .”

Odinson (CIO)

Runa walked over and sat back down next to him and kissed him softly, and then shook her head with a grin as she got up and finished getting dressed. “As much as I would love to play hooky with you, I can’t. School might start at 0800 for the older kids, but I have to be there at 0600 for all the little kids whose parents have to be on duty at 0700. And do you know what happens, Cmdr,” she poked him playfully in the chest, “when the teacher doesn’t show up? The whole ship stops functioning because parents can’t go to their posts because there is no one to watch their children. So as much as I would much rather stay here with you, the ship simply can’t function without me. But,” she kissed him again, “You can pick me up at 1630 or whenever you get off after that.” She slipped her shoes on and turned to look at him. “You going to walk me home?”
Runa

He sighed in dejection as Runa finished dressing.. He slid to the edge of the bed and began dressing himself.

“1630 should work just fine. I’ll let you know if I’ll be late.”

Finally, pulling his boots on, D’vash moved to the holodeck door beside Runa. “Of course, I’ll walk you, but,” he paused and grinned, “how do you explain to the kids AND parents that their teacher gets a personal escort from the ship’s chief of Intel. I mean, you could put it down to being the most important person on the ship, as you said.”

Odinson (CIO)

Runa grinned, “Oh, no worries, I’ve got that covered.” She didn’t say another word about it but her eyes danced. She had to stop by her quarters and change into something NOT ski gear: faded denim pants, deck shoes, and a slightly too big t-shirt covered in paint splatters. Her copper blonde hair was braided and then twisted up and pinned into a bun. She grinned as she came back out, “Arts and crafts today.”

Down the corridor and a couple of turns later Runa reached for the control to the door. “Ms Wuna!” and she was ‘tackled’ by a still very sleepy little boy, with a mop of black hair, about 3, clutching a tiny stuffed targ. “Good morning, Kavok,” she bent down and picked him up. “I sweepy.” She laughed softly and carried him inside. His father, a medical officer, glanced at D’Vash, “Good morning, Cmdr,” and then Runa. His wife had come home with some crazy rumor about Ms Edman being arrested and escorted off the ship. Obviously not the case, but it did beg the question why she was being escorted by the chief intel officer.

D’vash simply nodded in return and replied, “Doctor.”

Runa hid a grin, oh the rumors! “I bet you aren’t that sleepy. If I put you on a cot I bet you wake right up,” she spoke softly to Kavok, who suddenly seemed to notice the intimidating man who had walked up with his teacher. He straightened up where he was perched on her hip, “You aren’t taking Ms Wuna away are you?” It was all Runa could do not to laugh, Kavok was very serious, his father looked mortified, obviously Kavok had overhead his parents gossip the night before.

The CIO leaned in closer to the boy and whispered. “Of course not, young man. In fact I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that Ms. Runa stays aboard this ship as long as I can. I think she’s a wonderful teacher, and I’d hate to see her taken away from her students.”

“Do you remember what we’ve been learning about?” Kovak nodded, “Piwates!” Runa nodded, “That’s right. Well this guy over here, his name is Cmdr Odinson, and he knows all about catching pirates.” And just like that Kovak had shimmied to the floor and was now tugging on D’Vash’s hand leading him all around the room, showing off his drawing, and stick ships, and ‘P for Pirate’ letter pages. She grinned as Kovak pulled him past her. That was how you dealt with having an Intel escort.

D’vash followed the boy and winked as he passed Runa. “Those are some very fine drawings of pirate ships. In fact, can I tell you a secret?”

He knelt down beside the boy and said in a low voice, “My father was a pirate, and I was born on a pirate ship. That’s why, as Miss Runa said, I know a lot about pirates, at least Orion pirates.”
