Runa wanted a drink, and she couldn’t exactly go to Mike’s bar because then she’d have to open. And she had a few hours before she had to open the bar, and drinking alone was depressing. She was already depressed enough. She walked through the door and looked at the Trill host, “The bar please.” She took note of the Gorn and found him to be diminutive compared to her her usual green skinned companion. She had a fleeting thought to take bets on who would win between the two and quickly squashed it. She’d had enough of bets and dares for awhile. Right now she desperately needed to find a way to get home, someone to watch Mike’s bar, and make lesson plans and finish the counseling reports. All at the same time. So why was she out looking for a drink? Because she needed to take a step back and get some perspective, and the one person she would talk to about it, was still on duty at the moment.
Runa Edman

The young trill nodded and lead her to the red curtain. The room was fairly quiet, which was common for the time of day. The normal patrons tended to arrive alter to spend the night gambling.

As soon as Runa reached the bar the Caitain behind it looked her up and down “So what can I get you” she said handing Runa a drinks menu. The menu was extensive drinks from every corner of the galaxy alcoholic and non alcoholic. Andorian ale, Andorian tea, blood wine, mead and a few names many wouldn’t recognise. “Although judging by that dark cloud above your head. I’d say you want something with a kick. Am I right?” she asked her voice was silky smooth with seductive undertones.

Zhira (Diamond star owner)

Runa took the menu and glanced through it. She perused the mead list but found nothing that grabbed her attention. She glanced up at the Caitain bar tender and set the menu down. “Actually, I want something to remind me home. How about a non-alcoholic Gløgg.” Runa paused considering, “Actually I probably don’t have enough time for you to mull that. So let’s go with Briska apple cider strawberry and rhubarb.”
Runa Edman

The Catian laughed softly “Well i guess you didn’t read the whole menu.” she said pointing to a small paragraph on he last page it said ‘specialist drink available on request’. “Give me a couple minutes” she said before walking away form the bar and going behind a door.

Runa started to explain that there was a whole case in storage she could pull from but the Catian woman was already gone, so she simply called, “Thanks” to the retreating figure.

While the Catian was gone another person approached the bar “So you’re Runa Edman. I recognize you from you personnel file. Councilor, teacher and temporary owner of that punk bar down the corridor. That is certainly a lot of hats to wear” Zhira said her tone was alluring a common trait of Orion women.

“I assume Camri is getting you a specialized drink. I do hope we have it. I try to stock as may verities as I can. Of course if you need or want anything specific I’m sure I’ll get it for you. One way or the other” she added after she took a seat. her motions where effortless and graceful.

Zhira (Casino owner)

“It’s in the replicator files, and if she really wants the real thing, there is a case in storage for the lounge. My sister and I ordered a case for ourselves,” Runa smiled, “I try not to make things difficult....often.” Runa turned fully on the stool to face the woman as she sat down. “And you are Zhira owner of this establishment. I expect I will seeing you and your staff in the counseling office, briefly, over the next week.” She laughed then, “Oh don’t let Big Mike or the security chief catch you calling me the owner. The chief will toss me in the brig for ‘theft’ and there is no telling what Big Mike would do to me. Let’s say ‘guardian’ is the more appropriate term. But at the moment I am wearing none of those hats.”
Runa

“Looks like you won’t have to.” came a familiar rumbling-bass of a voice. Mardusk walked up to sit, glared at the delicate looking barstools, and the decided it best to stand next to Runa. He looked at the Orion woman before looking back at his friend. “Bubbles gets here in three hours.” he said, a hint of tired frustration in his voice. “Your sister better be doing good for Mike, Runa. And I hope you’re packed. One more confirmation and you are on a runabout.” He looked at Zhira and said “You got real beer in this place? Or just ‘mixologist cocktails and craft beer’ garbage?”

Mardusk

Runa turned quickly at the sound of the voice. Really it wasn’t fair the man could move that quietly. Of course it was probably a habit of his profession. And it would be HILARIOUS to watch him sneak up on someone else. She laughed, “Well I could probably argue that Mike owns the bar, Revna is married to him, so they both own it and I’m Revna’s legal proxy so therefore in a round about, convoluted, totally not legitimate way I own the bar. But that doesn’t last for even as long as it takes to say that. So we’ll stick with ‘guardian’ of Mike’s Place.” There was something about Bubbles that bothered Mardusk, but Runa wasn’t Revna and she had no idea what it was. She turned so she was facing him. “Yes I’m packed, and I really owe you for helping me. Seriously, it means a lot.” Runa of course knew who the senior staff on board was but didn’t know them. In the last two month she’d gotten to know Mardusk and considered him a friend. “Hey now, you know Revna. She’s doing as much good for him as he is for her. Come on, you saw the vid too!”

Zhira stood up and walked round behind the bar “Depends what you mean by proper beer Lieutenant commander. Do you mean something akin to the rot gut they serve at Mikes place? Or something that could knock you on you backside? Or do you mean something that was brewed with traditional techniques?” she asked as she reached for a stein and a bottle from under the bar.

“Rot gut has a long and storied history, ma’am. I wouldn’t knock it if you haven’t had a chance to try it… and ten bars of gold-pressed latinum says Mike’s has some stuff you not only don’t have, but have never heard of.”

“I was about to make the same bet. It would be interesting to meet this Mike and have a chat who know he might buy something off me and I off him. A mutually beneficial agreement” she said simply

“Probably ain’t gonna happen any time soon. He ran off and married the ships’s Counselor.... the lady that just left’s twin sister.”

“Either way” she said pouring the thick brown liquid into the stein “This should cover it” she said passing the stein over. Zhira knew how strong it was after all when you come across a beer that was 150% proof and with an ABV of 70%. You tended to take notice and she made sure she stocked some. so far only her bouncer could handle it but maybe the COS could.

“Oh and by the way, my bouncer can sit comfortably on these stools. their stronger then they look, so you can sit down. Wouldn’t want our security chief to be scared of a stool now would we” she added he had been antagonistic to her so she saw no reason not to be so with him.

Zhira (Diamon Star owner)

Mardusk looked at the stools and then at Zhira. “You’re bouncer is half my size and twice as delicate. But I’ll take your word for it.” and he smiled and took a seat.

Runa snorted, her bouncer wasn’t nearly the specimen that Mardusk was. And maybe it was something about Orion culture, or maybe, more likely, Runa was on edge with everything going on at home, but Runa was irritated. “Or maybe he just has good manners.” She looked from Mardusk to Zhira, “I do not want to see the two of you in my counseling office.” She hopped off the stool. “I think Camri was right, this dark cloud needs somewhere less…glitzy, just charge the drink to me. 3 hours isn’t long to wrap up loose ends. I’m for the rot gut. You want something worth drinking, Mardusk, you know where I’ll be.” Runa headed out the door, Bubbles had a reputation for legit crazy and Runa wanted to make sure she left the bar the way Mike had handed it over to her. Runa had never met the woman and had no idea if the media portrayal was all hype or real. But Mike had trusted her with the bar and he had now given the control to Bubbles, but Runa was still in charge for another 3 hours.
Runa, too many hats

“I’ll be there in a bit. Need to see about this brew.” and he lifted the stein and took a drink. He looked at the contents and licked a bit of foam from his upper lip. After a moment he nodded slightly in appreciation and said “Not bad… not bad at all. Decent kick. It’d be better with some more malt in it, though.” and he took a long pull before looking back at Zhira.

This was not going well at all. One customer leaving without even having a drink and butting heads with the other. Maybe this whole think was a bad idea. Although Zhira knew it was a gamble maybe she would have been better off not trying a starship but an outpost or the like. She thought a place like here’s would be good on a ship a different distraction from the every day. But now it seemed like it was a huge mistake. Maybe she didn’t think it through properly, maybe she wasn’t very good at interacting with the people of a starship. A years worth of work and it was already falling apart. it didn’t help that the crew seemed to be dysfunctional at best. What kind of ship had she set foot on.

Runa nodded to Mardusk, “Enjoy it, it’s got a good color and a decent amount of foam.” She turned to Zhira, “I’ll be back sometime, but I just don’t have time today. It creeped up on me. But you should stop by Mike’s before you made a judgement.” Runa, like her sister, couldn’t really hold a grudge or be angry for long. Runa was tired though and who she was truly angry at wasn’t anywhere near the Atlantis, and it was why she was going home.
Runa

Either way she was here now and she had to salvage something even though she had just had her drink insulted by someone who hadn’t even tried there’s yet “My apologise Lieutenant commander. It seems I’ve underestimated the crew of this ship. Maybe this was bad idea after all” Zhira said simply “Also I apologise for the comment. I’m not sure if your friend Mikes the same. But I’m very protective over my places and my staff. So I can be a bit aggressive at times” she added.

Zhira

OOC: Fixing split.

IC:
“Oh, Mike will bust skulls if someone talks s#!+ about his place. And if you get outta line, he’ll toss ya out using your head to open the door. So I get protective, no worries. And people underestimate this crew quite a bit. It’s not… typical… of a Star Fleet ship, that’s for sure. As far as bad idea? Who knows… you have to give it time to work out the kinks and such.” and he took another drink.

Mardusk, CoS

Zhira smiled slightly “You’re probably right Lieutenant commander. Its just I have 14 people working for me if it goes south its not just me that suffers.” she said as she got herself a glass of water “So lieutenant commander is there anything specifically I need to know about this ship and her crew. I got the striped down version of what the ship is like and her function but obviously civilian clearance doesn’t give you much” she added taking a sip of her water.

Zhira

Mardusk thought for a moment. “Well… there are gonna be a solid few that really like this kinda place. And some that like Mike’s. If you wanna be successful.. I mean really a part of the ship… you’re gonna have to cater to both; at least sometimes. Say what you will about Mike’s… no one gets turned away at the door.”

Mardusk, CoS

“You seem to assume I turn people away. I don’t. I have the restaurant for hot meals or a cosy night and I have here. If you just fancy a drink or want a go at a spot of gambling or play just simple darts or pool. I don’t turn people away, but I’m not going to play music that might turn away other, such as punk rock.” Zhira said pausing for a moment

“It tends to drive more people away then brings in. I found that out at my other establishments. But my plan is ever changing and I’ll adapt to the crew preference.” Se said simply but not disrespectfully. She had nothing against punk rock or other loud music, it was that it didn’t relay fit wit the feel of her establishments and the few times she had tried it. All she got was complaints. It wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea and Zhira was trying to cater to as many as she could. she knew it wasn’t possible to make everyone happy.
