Oh that looked amazing, and smelled even better. She looked at him and shrugged with a grin. “Well then I’m in the clear aren’t I, Lad? Cause if ya took the time ta figure out how I like my burger, ya know I don’t use none of those. What ya might not know is that it’s cause that stuff ruins the flavor of a good seasoning.” She picked up the burger and took bite, chewed slowly, finished, picked up her glass and took a drink. “Tha’ is an excellent burger. Where’d ya get that? It wasn’t no replicator.”

Mardusk smiled and said “Oh, a magician never tells his secrets.” He lifted his own dome and there were two of the burgers and fries. He took a bite and chewed slowly, looking at her and then away. Finally he swallowed and asked “Whats the worst pickup line anyone has ever used on you that actually worked?”

Mardusk

Cara munched on fries while she thought about it. There were A LOT of bad pick up lines…but worked....she started laughing. “Okay…” laughter, “Okay, okay. Kiss me if I’m wrong. But dinosaurs still exist, right? I was in secondary school. We were like 14, and of course everyone knew what he was up to, and for whatever reason at the time I thought the fact he made himself wrong was funny.” She picked the burger and took a bite.

O’Farrell

“Hmmm… okay. I cannot stand the feel of velvet. It sets my teeth on edge.” and the big green behemoth shivered. “Gross. Hate it.” He took a bite and chewed slowly, obviously in deep thought. Swallowing, he took a drink.

“All right, burger down. This is a reflex answer question, okay. So as soon as I ask, you just blurt out the very first thing that comes to mind, okay? Ready?” and he waited for her to get set.

Oh so like that. She hid a grin thinking to herself, Yeah yeah Malachite, I know those tricks too. Cara set the burger down, took a sip of the Guinness and nodded, “Go for it.”

“You are marooned on a desert island. No way to call for help. No way to leave. You have all the food and water you will ever need. Now… who or what will you miss the most?”

Mardusk

“Amazing conversations with the Orion security chief.” Cara wasn’t sure what was more surprising, the fact that she just pulled answered his trick with her own, or the fact she really meant it.

Mardusk gave her a look and then chuckled and said “Uh huh… sure. But I’m not gonna complain at the attempt.” and he smiled at her. There was that electricity again, what the hell is going on? I should hit up Medical in the morning. he thought to himself.

Cara blinked, okay…yeah they could totally go with her turning the technique back on him, but they both know she didn’t. And the heat in her cheeks, and what was with that. Cara never blushed. There was that slight cough again and this time, because she was facing him, she saw the widened eyes and surprise. Yeah you and me both…

“All right, since you don’t wanna play nice…” and he laughed, “… how about this one - are you religious, and why or why not?” and he took a bite of burger.

Mardusk

“I was playin’ nice,” she grinned at him. “Religious…more like undecided. Grew up Catholic, had a lot a friends that believe in the old stories. I tend ta believe the old stories more than what I grew up with. I mean science has proved a lot, but there is still a lot we donna know. And too many all powerful aliens out there ta not even consider they might have played God.”

Mardusk was watching her closely, and he knew she was doing the same to him. His interrogator side was telling him that she was hiding something but that she may not know what it was. She’d look at him and her pupils dilated a lot. The cough. The blushing…

She was nervous.

The realization caused the shock to run rampant all the way down an then back up his spine. The sensation caused his eyes to widen noticeably and to make him take a sharp intake of breath… which was more than problematic as he was swallowing the bite of hamburger at that same moment.

The coughing fit began immediately, and it was all he could do to turn away and cover his mouth with his napkin.

Mardusk

Cara was watching him and the every so often eyes widened and slightly shocked and confused look on his face. He was aware of that underlying something too, then. And then some realization occurred to him and he started coughing in earnest. Cara got up walked to the replicator and brought back the spoutless pitcher of water. She took his hand and placed it around the pitcher. And heat ran all the way up her arm. “Guinness wonna help clear tha food that went down da wrong way.” She went back to her seat and sat down. She picked at the fries. Alright she found Gravel physically attractive and he was great to talk to. She’d told him genuine invitations for company were few, and she did enjoy their conversations. She’d told the truth about that. She’d been on board 3 days, did she really want to get involved like that? Cara shrugged to herself, took a bite of the burger. Things would progress as they would. Once he was recovered. “Hey Gravel, it’s just dinner between friends, right?” and she grinned and winked at him.
