Mardusk was watching her closely, and he knew she was doing the same to him. His interrogator side was telling him that she was hiding something but that she may not know what it was. She’d look at him and her pupils dilated a lot. The cough. The blushing…

She was nervous.

The realization caused the shock to run rampant all the way down an then back up his spine. The sensation caused his eyes to widen noticeably and to make him take a sharp intake of breath… which was more than problematic as he was swallowing the bite of hamburger at that same moment.

The coughing fit began immediately, and it was all he could do to turn away and cover his mouth with his napkin.

Cara was watching him and the every so often eyes widened and slightly shocked and confused look on his face. He was aware of that underlying something too, then. And then some realization occurred to him and he started coughing in earnest. Cara got up walked to the replicator and brought back the spoutless pitcher of water. She took his hand and placed it around the pitcher. And heat ran all the way up her arm. “Guinness wonna help clear tha food that went down da wrong way.” She went back to her seat and sat down. She picked at the fries. Alright she found Gravel physically attractive and he was great to talk to. She’d told him genuine invitations for company were few, and she did enjoy their conversations. She’d told the truth about that. She’d been on board 3 days, did she really want to get involved like that? Cara shrugged to herself, took a bite of the burger. Things would progress as they would. Once he was recovered. “Hey Gravel, it’s just dinner between friends, right?” and she grinned and winked at him.

The length of his middle finger was truly impressive.

Cara sat back and her eyes just lit up, “Ya ain’t earned the honor yet.”

Eventually the coughing subsided and he picked up the pitcher and drained it. Clearing his throat, he said “Excuse me a sec.” and walked past her and into the bedroom, closing the door behind him. A minute or so later he came back and said “Sorry about that.” and he sat down and looked at her.

Her laughter followed him as he got up and walked into the other room. In the quiet of his absence she sighed with a chuckle and enjoyed the burger. When he came back out she looked at him, genuinely wondering if he was alright.

“I have no idea what you are talking about.” and he took a bite and chewed, his eyes never leaving hers and a slight grin on his face. His eyes were lit up with a look of knowing mischievousness.

“Uh huh. It ain’t ya brawn that keeps the wolves away, it’s that impressive intellect of yours. I’m sure you’ll figure it out.” Meeting his gaze, Cara had the impression, she might not know what she was in for. “Alright next question.”

O’Farrell

Without missing a beat he said “When do you want to have our first date? I’m free tomorrow… or even later tonight. Gotta start earning that honor sometime, right?” and he winked back at her.

To her credit, Cara didn’t spit out her drink, but the Guinness burned going down when forced past the cough she was trying to not let out. She did clear her throat though, and then popped a fry in her mouth and ate it while she thought. “Well that’s a difficult choice. I mean should I say tomorrow, and that gives you time the squirm and make a plan, or do I say later tonight and see how you do under pressure?” This time she was blatantly teasing him. Cara met his gaze for a long time, What the hell is going on here? I just got here, what am I doin’? Who cares I like it! Cara crossed her arms on the table edge and leaned forward. “Yeah know it’s not often I read a room wrong, but I coulda swore we already were.”

O’Farrell

“Apparently under pressure I try and choke myself to death.” Gravel said with a grin. He leaned forward and looked at her. “I got that distinctive impression myself, but didn’t know if that was the vibe or if I was just wanting it to be that way. Now had I known inhaling a cheeseburger was the way to get your attention, I would have come prepared to the shuttlebay the other day.” and he laughed, but softly. He stared at her for a long moment and then said “This is weird, but I’m more than kinda okay with that for some reason.”
