Mardusk looked at her and shook his head. “Well… Im really glad I don’t play pool.” he said and finished his pint. He was quiet a moment and then said “How… how hard is it for you to shut off the job? Because I will tell you, for me its hard. Well… it has been… it seems to be getting much easier the past few days.” and he smiled and lifted the empty glass to drink and then looked at it confusedly and set it back down.

Mardusk

“It’s hard. I’m trained ta read people ta understand what they aren’t sayin’ with words. And I see it even if I’m not lookin’ for it. And then a genuine question sounds like I’m workin’. Some times it’s easier to leave work on and monitor myself rather than be genuine. It all goes back ta that bein’ lonely. Ah but then there’s the ones that come ta see me, willingly or not, and they are really struggling. Sometimes they work their way in ta my head and it’s hard ta leave them in the office. Ta let it go and worry about it later. Most days it takes me an hour or more to mentally work through it, put back on the self as it were. It’s easier when I have something else to focus on, ta look forward to.” She grinned. She watched him look quizzically at his glass. Dinner was over, but was the conversation?

O’Farrell

Mardusk leaned forward and put his arms on the table. “Ok. Cards on the table. I’ve been thinking about this dinner for two days. When I said I had a red head to dream about, I did dream about you. And when I’m talking with you it’s like the rest of the galaxy is on pause… and I like it. So there it is.”

Mardusk

Cara nodded, “Cards on the table. I got lost wanderin’ around hopin’ ta bump in ta you just so ya could remind me we were havin’ dinner.” She grinned. “When I said I’d miss talking ta you I was telling the truth. You talk ta me and donna care what I am, or if you do you Donna let it bother you. I enjoy it and I would miss it and I know I’d miss it because I got ta experience two days without it. So there it is.”

O’Farrell

Mardusk laid a hand on the table, palm up, and said “What you do doesn’t bother me. I’m not here in spite of what you do. I’m here because of you. Every time I ran into you, I wanted to just say ‘Let’s go get that dinner.’ I know you just got here, and I know the nice thing to say is that ‘Oh, I don’t wanna monipolize your time or anything.’. But I do. I really do. I’m not going to… but I want you to know that any time you have that you want to spend with me? I’m okay with that.”

Mardusk

Cara took the offer and placed her hand in his. “You shoulda said so. Well…maybe no the first day. I wouldna been good company then.” It was worth it though, she felt so much better on the new stuff Evrilla gave her. “But maybe that is the nice thing but I think I’d like you monopolizing my time because then I get to do the same with yours. And yeah I just got here, so that means we’ve got time and can enjoy the journey.”

O’Farrell

Gravel smiled and said “Okay, then… monopolizing each other it is. Now the other part ‘a this… its a ship. People are gonna talk and whisper and all the rest. Rank difference, jobs, all of it. You okay with that? I don’t want you or I thinking this’ll stay quiet, ‘cause it won’t.”

Mardusk

Cara blinked and then started to laugh, squeezing his hand gently. “Oh people are gonna talk no matter what. It doesn’t bother me unless it becomes malicious. But that is a bigger problem.” Now here was a hiccup. They were talkin’ about dating but this blurred that line between datin’ and seriousness. But cards on the table. “It’s fine and doesna bother me. As long as we listen and talk ta each other and not the gossip.”

Cara

Mardusk laughed. “Oh, beautiful… Im the Security Chief! Listening to gossip is the cornerstone of everything I do!” and he laughed again, but his hand loses gently on hers and he said “But I promise… I’ll listen to you first.” and he winked. He sighed after a minute of laughter and then said “Okay, serious question… favorite thing to do for fun? Like any hobbies other than glue and glitter?” Of course he would remember.

Mardusk

Cara just raised a brow at him. They both worked off of rumors and gossip. Their jobs were very similar and from the professional view point of whatever this was between them, that was a plus. She laughed, “I’ll hold you to that, Gravel.” It didn’t surprise her at all that he remembered. She bet it surprised others though. What hadn’t she told him yet…”Bars or clubs, they must have music and a dance floor. Pool table is a plus. Favorite place was in the basement of this really old building in downtown. It had been there since the 1920s in some format. They held an old fashioned speak easy every week. Taught swing dancing and had live music. On my own though…horseback riding. And that I can do alone. Horses have an incredible ability to find their way back to their herd. And sometimes holonovels, but it has to be adaptive. If I have to do the predictable it’s just a waste of holodeck time. What about you? What do you do for fun?”
