“Good.” he said softly and led them out of the Arboretum. They talked quietly but nervously as they moved through the ship, coming to a sign.

(Copied from post https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf3/atlantis/posts/141685/ ):

The background was black and written in silver light where the words Diamond Star Restaurant. Below the sign was a simply looking door but what was on the other side as anything but basic. The corse star fleet standard colours gave way to lush red Velvet carpet with stars leading to a mahogany plinth. Behind this stood a tall Trill, his crisp white suit reflecting the soft light from the reproduction Tiffany fixtures. Behind him were two curtains one a light soft silk and the other a heavier red one.

By the door stood a huge Gorn he was at least 7 foot and built like a tank. His dark green skin covered by a black suit with armband saying Security. His amber eyes scanning the entrance and the people who came.

Mardusk looked at the Gorn and chuckled. The Gorn chuckled?… growled?… sang?… hard to tell, it was a Gorn after all… back, and then opened the door for them.

Cara looked around the small entry way, this was lavish at first glance. She gave the Gorn a curious once over and then shrugged. Once out of his ear shot she grinned up at Gravel, “Ya could take him.”

Mardusk grinned and said “Oh I have. To lunch. Few days ago, actually. His Federation Standard name is Randal. Good guy. Excellent at needle point.” as he ushered her through the doors.

Behind the silk soft piano music could be heard and the sound of soft laughter and drinks being poured. This was the main restaurant. It’s delicately carved tables covered in equally delicate silk table cloths, Fine crystal glasses and silver cutlery flanked plates of the finest china decorated with blue scenes of old gardens and places long forgotten. Patrons sat on dark brown chairs with rose petals carved into the legs. White clad waiters seemed to dance around serving drinks and handing out food. Even though the tables were of different sizes and had different groups on them all seemed to run smoothly as if each waiter, each plate and each drink were moving in harmony with the music. The soft music being provided by a group of five musicians dressed also in white. Their instruments were made of the finest wood and each band member was an artist in their own right. But playing together was where the true beauty lay. The music seemed to dance on the soft air of the restaurant creating such a sense of calm that it felt like heaven.

Behind the red curtain was a much smaller area but still impressive. In the back of the room stood a mahogany bar, its brass tapes and fine glasses glinting as the light bathed the area. Several bar stools sat in front of it each one mahogany to match the bar with dark red cushions. The music was still soft but provided by a jukebox in the back right corner. But the sound could not be heard until the red curtain was pulled back. Behind the bar stood a tall thin and extremely beautiful Catain her long brown fur as smooth as the silk that adorned the next room. The room was filled with a familiar scent, the scent of an old English pub, a soft fire crackled in the back left corner and game tables of all kinds adorned the room; roulette, poker, baccarat and so on . This coupled with the music and the scent made the whole place feel warm, cosy and as if you were at a friend’s house. Each table had brass trim with intricate Arabian patterns carved into them.

Patreon were served by waiters carrying drinks and snacks as their clients needed.

Mardusk led them back to the bar and he pulled a stool out for Cara and then sat next to her. “Bit different than my normal spot, but I think it’ll do.” and he winked at her and then took her hand in his.

Cara looked around, it was classy. Classy but had personality. Sassy t-shirt, jean jacket, and cranky attitude was in such a wonderful juxtaposition to the place, it just Made. Her. Day. “I’ve only seen places like this on a holodeck. It’s different, not something I would expect to find on a star ship.” She liked the feel of her hand in his, and it felt right but it was new and different and she was totally aware of it. The bartender walked over, “Henry McKenna 10 Year Single Barrel on the rocks.”

“Red Breast 12 year, neat. Make it a double if you would, please.”

“Have you been in here before? What do you think of it?”

Cara

“I’ve been in once right when it opened.” and he laughed. “I was actually with the last Counselor, too.” and he looked at her. “Cards on the table?” he asked softly.

Just as softly, “Always.”

“I’d much rather be anywhere with this Counselor, instead.” and he kissed her cheek lightly as the drinks arrived.

Mardusk

“Well I didn’t know the last counselor, but this counselor definitely likes being here with you.” Conversation, a question, an inquirery because she listened and paid attention to what he said, and because she genuinely cared, but then thought better of it…too much like work. She took a sip of the bourbon, “Do you think I can convince you take more breaks from work, with me?”

Cara

“Oh… you already have, you just didn’t know it.” Mardusk said with a laugh. He looked closely at her and said “Ask what you wanted to. It’s ok. No judgment.”and then he winked. “We both read people for a living.”

Gravel

She grinned but it wasn’t playful, but understanding, “You said you were really close to both the previous counselors, and Mike is your best friend, and they’ve all left and your crazy violent ex girlfriend is now on board. Are doing okay?”

Cara

Mardusk smiled. “You do care, don’t ya?” he said softly. He was only partially teasing. Most of his tone was appreciation and affection. “I was close to Revna. She was my friend. Runa? Runa was a pal… we were well on our way to friends but not quite there. And she always had something going on. Easily distracted, doubt she’ll ever settle down… and gods save the one who tries!” and he laughed. “And Mike? Mike and I have been friends for years… and most of those years I’ve been in Star Fleet running around everywhere. It was great having him here… but I know we’ll see each other again. So yeah… I’m okay. Really. Besides… I hear the new Counselor is hot and single, so I got that going for me.” and he he grinned and took a drink.
